Chapter 283 Because You Went
After Mabel left, Elizabeth started handling business matters. Halfway through, she frowned, pondering Chris and the others' motives.
She really couldn't figure it out, so she looked up at Timothy, "Mr. Robinson, why do you think Chris and the others want to sell their company shares?"
Timothy's gaze was calm. Whenever the Sherman family was mentioned, he wanted to frown. He said flatly, "Whatever their reason for selling the stock, you can buy it at market price."
Elizabeth nodded, "That's what I'm planning to do. After Mabel's wedding is over, I'll talk to Chris and the others."
Seeing her constantly busy, Timothy helplessly reminded her, "Why don't you get some sleep first?"
Just as Elizabeth nodded, ready to rest for a bit, a bodyguard knocked and came in, saying Herschel and a lady from the Stewart family wanted to see her.
Elizabeth immediately thought of Freya's family, the Stewart family.
"If you don't want to see them, don't," Timothy said.
"It's fine, let's meet them. I'm never afraid of trouble." Elizabeth had the bodyguard let them in.
Herschel helped white-haired Maeve walk into the hospital room.
Timothy pulled over a chair for Maeve to sit.
Maeve glanced at Timothy and thanked him, then turned to look at her granddaughter Elizabeth sitting on the hospital bed.
Russell was gone, her daughter Freya and Elizabeth had become enemies. With such a big incident happening, the Stewart family didn't dare hide it from Maeve.
After learning about it, Maeve immediately rushed to Border Ridge City.
"Child, you've suffered," Maeve sighed, a hint of apology in her eyes. "I came today to say I'm sorry. Your mother is immature. If you need anything in the future, you can go to your uncles."
Elizabeth looked at Maeve sitting before her, sensing Maeve's sincerity.
Elizabeth pressed her lips together. She wasn't someone who made trouble unreasonably or liked to take things out on others.
She smiled faintly and said, "Mrs. Stewart, thank you for your kindness, but you don't need to apologize. Maybe my parents and I just weren't meant to be close."
Her use of the formal address for Maeve made her meaning very clear - she didn't want any connection with the Stewart family.
Maeve wasn't angry. She smiled kindly, "No matter what, as long as I'm alive, the Stewart family's door will always be open to you."
Elizabeth smiled faintly, "Thank you."
Herschel also apologized to Elizabeth. He hadn't expected Freya would do something like throwing chemicals at Elizabeth.
Before Elizabeth was found, Freya had clearly missed her so much.
Why, after finding Elizabeth, had things deteriorated to the point where mother and daughter wouldn't acknowledge each other?
Herschel helped Maeve leave the hospital room.
Timothy gave Elizabeth a light kiss and said softly, "Rest well, don't overthink it."
He adjusted the hospital bed and helped Elizabeth lie down.
"Mr. Robinson, I won't overthink it. Mrs. Nightingale and I just share a blood relation, that's all."
Right after arriving in Border Ridge City from Majestic City, Maeve went to see Elizabeth first. Only after seeing Elizabeth did Maeve go to the First Hospital to see her own daughter Freya.
When Freya saw Maeve arrive, her face lit up with delight, "Mom, you're here! Why didn't you tell me in advance?"
Juniper quickly stood up to greet Maeve, then shyly glanced at Herschel.
"Who's this?" Maeve didn't acknowledge Freya yet, but looked at Juniper instead.
"Juniper, from the Collins family, Herschel's fiancée. They'll be getting married soon," Freya said with a smile. "Mom, Juniper has been so helpful taking care of me during this time."
Juniper blushed but still smiled graciously.
Maeve looked at Juniper and nodded with a slight smile, "Juniper, thank you for taking care of Freya during this time."
Juniper quickly said, "Mrs. Stewart, you're too kind. It's what I should do."
Freya smiled broadly and turned to Maeve, "Mom, Juniper is really thoughtful and has helped me a lot."
Maeve nodded slightly. Juniper was smart - she probably knew Maeve wanted to talk to Freya, so she automatically found an excuse to go out and make a phone call.
After Juniper left the room, Maeve's expression immediately turned serious.
Seeing Maeve's serious expression, Freya knew Maeve was angry. "Mom, what's wrong? Who made you angry?"
"You," Maeve looked at Freya, her eyes carrying a hint of reproach. "Freya, Elizabeth is your daughter after all. How could you treat her like this? To let things get to the point where mother and daughter are enemies - you've really disappointed me."
Freya's expression changed slightly as she hurried to explain, "Mom, the fortune teller said her fate brings bad luck and misfortune. I was just afraid she'd bring trouble to us."
Maeve nearly died of anger. She snorted coldly and took a deep breath, "I think you should go to a mental hospital. Just because of 'bad luck,' you pushed away your own daughter? I clearly failed to raise you properly."
Freya lowered her head in grievance, no longer arguing.
Seeing her stubborn attitude, Maeve felt her head ache.
How had she never noticed how foolish Freya was before?
Maeve frowned, her tone becoming even more severe, "Elizabeth is Russell's only daughter. How can you do this? How can you face your husband? How can you face the Nightingale family?"
Freya anxiously twisted her fingers, saying in a low voice, "She's the one who harmed Russell."
Maeve put her hand to her forehead. Looking at the stubborn Freya, her eyes were full of helplessness and heartache, "Freya, Elizabeth suffered for so many years. Instead of making it up to her, you treat her like this. I just hope you won't regret it later."
Freya remained silent.
She said coldly, "Mom, do you know why Russell got into that car accident? Because that day he was going to the airport to fly to Solstice! Why was he going to Solstice? And Elizabeth was in Solstice at that time too!"
Maeve rubbed her temples. So there was this reason too, but still, "Freya, it was an accident. You can't blame the child for this."
"Why can't I blame her? It's all because of her that Russell went to Solstice," Freya said with disgust in her eyes.
Herschel, who had been standing beside Maeve, frowned, "Freya, didn't Russell tell you the reason he was going to Solstice?"
Freya said coldly, "What reason? Wasn't it just to see Elizabeth?"
Herschel frowned, "Of course not. Russell was going to Solstice that day to invite a renowned expert to come to Border Ridge City to treat you, Freya."
Freya didn't believe it. Her voice immediately rose, "You're lying!"
Seeing Freya's agitated state and remembering what the doctor had said, Herschel didn't dare continue.
Maeve sighed and stood up, "I'm going to rest. Freya, you think things through. You've really disappointed me."
"Herschel, take me to the hotel. Let her calm down on her own."
Herschel was worried about Freya's current state. As Herschel helped Maeve out of the room,
Freya sat on the hospital bed, her eyes confused. Had she been wrong?
Thinking this, tears involuntarily streamed down her face.
When Herschel was taking Maeve to rest at the hotel, Juniper walked into the room.
Seeing Freya crying, Juniper nervously rushed over to comfort her, "Mrs. Nightingale, please don't cry. The doctor said you need to rest well and can't get emotionally upset."
Freya looked up and saw Juniper's concerned expression. She wiped away her tears and forced a smile, "Juniper, I'm fine."
Juniper gently held Freya's hand and said softly, "Mrs. Nightingale, don't worry. You still have me and Herschel. We'll take good care of you."
Freya nodded and sighed, "Juniper, was I really wrong to treat Elizabeth that way?"
Juniper's heart immediately tensed. The worse Freya's attitude toward Elizabeth, the more strained their mother-daughter relationship, which was all the more beneficial for her.
Juniper quickly gathered her thoughts and said, "Elizabeth's personality is just too strong. If you two can't get along, Mrs. Nightingale, don't force it."
Juniper continued, "Mrs. Nightingale, Herschel was raised by you, and he's very devoted to you."
Hearing this, Freya nodded, "Herschel is indeed very devoted."
If they couldn't get along, they really shouldn't force it.
Thinking of what Herschel had just said, Freya sank into sadness.
Russell had actually gone to Solstice for her sake.
