Chapter 255 I Hope the Rest of My Life Will Be Happy
Maddox and Chris's conversation was filled with disdain and contempt for Elizabeth.
They believed that kicking Elizabeth out of power at the Sherman Group would be a piece of cake.
Elizabeth was just a woman without any backing.
Chris laughed, "When we meet tomorrow, I'll make her realize that holding shares in the Sherman Group will burn her hands."
Rocco was still somewhat uneasy. He cautiously reminded them, "Either way, we still need to be careful. In just the short time she's been managing the Sherman Group, she reformed the website and signed a cloud cooperation deal with Zenith Enterprises Group. She's a woman with real vision."
Maddox dismissed this with a wave of his hand, "Don't worry, we're not idiots."
However, they didn't know that Elizabeth had already anticipated all of this.
She had calmly and decisively made her plans.
She knew her situation well, and she knew that Maddox and the others wouldn't easily let go of the shares in her hands.
Now it was just a matter of who had better tactics.
The next morning.
Elizabeth was still wearing a black shirt and black pants. She stood in front of the mirror and straightened her clothes.
When she came downstairs, she saw Alfonso was there too.
They nodded at each other.
She asked, "Where's Mabel?"
Alfonso looked up toward the stairs, "Upstairs."
Elizabeth nodded. She went to have breakfast, ate about half a bowl, and then left.
She got in the car and said to Robbie, "Robbie, book me a flight to Silverlight City for tomorrow."
It was time to go see Quinton.
Robbie agreed and immediately booked the ticket.
The car drove to the meeting place with Chris.
Elizabeth walked into the shop. Robbie told the server the private room number, and the server led them there.
She had just sat down in the private room when Chris arrived.
Chris smiled slightly and walked over to sit down, "Sorry to keep you waiting."
Elizabeth said flatly, "I just got here too."
Chris smiled and sat down.
Elizabeth picked up the small teapot, poured a cup of tea, lifted the cup with one hand, and placed it in front of Chris.
Chris glanced at her one-handed tea-serving gesture, his eyes showing slight displeasure, "Let's get straight to the point. After all, we're both busy people."
Elizabeth nodded, "Then let's cut to the chase."
She took out a document and pushed it in front of Chris, "I want to buy the five percent of Sherman Group shares you hold. You can take a look at this document first."
Chris didn't open the document Elizabeth pushed over. He smiled, "What a coincidence, I also want to buy the shares you hold."
Elizabeth looked at Chris, a flash of coldness in her eyes, but she quickly masked it and smiled, "Looks like we both have the same idea."
Chris picked up his teacup and took a light sip, a trace of contempt flashing in his eyes, "Ms. Penrose, you should understand that after remarrying, it's no longer appropriate for you to keep holding Sherman Group shares. The current situation isn't very favorable for you. You shouldn't take risks."
Elizabeth's lips curved up, her expression indifferent.
"Are you threatening me? How scary."
After saying this coldly, she stood up, "I'll seriously consider your proposal."
Elizabeth took the document and left the private room. Chris watched Elizabeth's retreating figure, a trace of doubt flashing in his eyes.
Would she really seriously consider it?
Her tone didn't quite sound like it, did it?
Elizabeth got in the car. Robbie turned around and said in a low voice, "We've found leads on the source of the smuggled goods."
She nodded.
Elizabeth returned home. When Mabel learned that Elizabeth was going back to Silverlight City, she silently raised her hand to indicate she wanted to go too.
Mabel wanted to see Quinton, that beautiful man.
Alfonso waved his phone and smiled, "I've already booked my ticket."
Mabel said, "Can't help but praise you—smart."
Alfonso smiled.
Just then, Alfonso's phone rang. He walked to the balcony to answer it.
His mother Maya Coleman's voice came through, "Alfonso, when are you coming back?"
Alfonso said gently, "Mom, I'm still busy."
Maya gave a cold laugh, "Don't lie to me. Did you go back to the country to find Mabel?"
Alfonso's eyes turned slightly cold. Who had leaked this? He smiled lightly, "Mom, once I win Mabel over, I'll come back."
Maya on the other end was silent for a moment, then said with coldness in her voice, "I don't approve of you marrying Mabel, unless I'm dead. Back then, her parents forced me to kneel before they'd let you go. The Simpson family—we Carrs can't reach that high."
Alfonso was silent for a moment, "Mom, you should know that Mabel is different from her parents. She's someone I truly love, and no matter what, I won't give up."
This time Maya's voice carried obvious anger, "Alfonso, are you going against me? Sophia is perfectly fine. She went abroad with you and suffered so much—I saw it all. What's so great about Mabel? Just a delicate woman."
Alfonso sighed, a trace of helplessness flashing in his eyes, "Mom, I don't want to go against you."
Maya finally said coldly, "Do what you want. Either way, I won't approve of this marriage. Don't bring her in front of me."
That evening, the room's lighting was soft, creating a warm atmosphere.
Mabel took her change of clothes and walked into the bathroom.
After showering, she came out wearing a bathrobe and saw Alfonso already leaning against the headboard, waiting for her.
Mabel walked to the vanity and sat down to apply moisturizer.
Alfonso got out of bed, walked behind her, reached for the comb, and helped brush her hair, his movements gentle and focused.
He put down the comb, bent his back, and hugged Mabel from behind, tilting his head to kiss her earlobe, "Mabel Darling, let's get married, okay?"
He caressed her cheek.
Alfonso's eyes looked at Mabel in the mirror.
Their breathing gradually intertwined, the air filled with an intimate atmosphere.
Mabel hesitated, then finally shook her head, "Not unless you explain things clearly about Sophia."
The conversation came to an abrupt halt.
"That was so long ago, why do you have to know every detail?" Alfonso frowned, a hint of irritation showing, "Haven't you already seen her?"
Mabel's face instantly tensed.
She had indeed seen—seen the messy, intimate traces they'd left.
She just wanted to know why it happened, when they were still together at the time.
Mabel stood up angrily, biting her lower lip lightly, and said, "So what if I saw? Can't you just give me an explanation?"
Alfonso took a deep breath, "Mabel, that's in the past. Let's not just dwell on the past—we need to look forward, okay?"
Hearing this, Mabel felt anger and grievance surging in her chest, "Got it. I'll never ask you about this again."
She hurried to the bed, grabbed her pillow, and walked out of the bedroom without looking back.
Elizabeth heard a knock on the door. She went to open it and saw Mabel holding a pillow. She opened the door, "Come in."
Mabel smiled. She shuffled in wearing slippers and placed the pillow on the bed.
Elizabeth closed the door and asked with concern, "What happened? Did you fight?"
Mabel waved her hand, pretending to be carefree, "It's not important. He's just a man. Elizabeth, let's sleep early. We have to catch a flight tomorrow."
Elizabeth smiled. She lay down on the other side of the bed, "Okay, let's sleep early."
Though she said sleep, Elizabeth knew she wouldn't fall asleep easily.
Her mind only agreed to rest when it was late at night, usually not shutting down until two or three in the morning.
She thought about Seraphina, then about Mr. Robinson.
Timothy was in Solstice, where it should be around seven in the morning now.
And Seraphina—she wondered if she would dream of Seraphina tonight.
Solstice, 7 AM.
Timothy walked out of the church, his eyes deep, his features radiating an elegant air.
Whether or not there were gods, Timothy still persistently prayed to them every day.
He hoped Elizabeth could find happiness for the rest of her life.
At the entrance, Joe was already waiting for him. Seeing Timothy come out, he immediately stepped forward to report, "Mr. Robinson, breakfast is ready, and today's schedule for going to the company has been arranged."
Timothy nodded and walked along the wooden corridor, his gaze sweeping across the courtyard.
Solstice's morning was sunny and bright, the courtyard lush with greenery, the air carrying a fresh scent.
Elizabeth and Seraphina would probably like the weather here too.
Joe walked behind Timothy. Seeing Timothy's thoughtful expression, he didn't dare disturb him and just quietly followed.
Timothy collected his thoughts.
