Chapter 156 Forced
"As expected, men can't be relied on."
Elizabeth finished cursing.
She lazily leaned against the sofa, picked up a cherry tomato with her fingers, and put it in her mouth.
Sweet, not sour, very tasty.
After eating, she continued cursing.
"Timothy, how come you don't even have basic common sense now? Washing socks with clothes—don't you think that's disgusting? Has your brain rusted?"
Elizabeth had asked fake Timothy to do the laundry not long ago.
She didn't expect to find that not only did he not sort the clothes, but he even washed socks together with the clothes.
How dirty!
She ate another cherry tomato to calm down.
Strange, she used to find Timothy pleasing from head to toe.
Now she found Timothy annoying from head to toe.
Had their honeymoon period already passed?
"You can't even wash clothes properly, and in the end you made me, a pregnant woman, do the laundry. You clearly knew how to do it before. You did it on purpose, didn't you?"
This was really the key point.
Timothy clearly knew how to wash sheets and clothes before!
Elizabeth was sharp-tongued.
Jake sat on the other side of the sofa with a cold expression. Timothy actually had to do laundry before—what an idiot. For this kind of thing, just hire a housekeeper and everything would be taken care of.
Now he not only had to do laundry, mop the floor, wash fruit for her to eat, but also wash dishes three times a day.
He'd only done it for one day and was already fed up.
Jake said gently, "Should we hire a housekeeper? Didn't you say you're tired of eating from Carlton Hotel every day?"
Elizabeth actually didn't like the feeling of having an outsider at home, but she wasn't in a position to do things herself now. She thought about it, "Let's just hire a housekeeper to cook three meals a day. You can do the rest of the housework."
Elizabeth made the final decision.
"You clearly knew how to mop floors and wash clothes before."
Before was before, the current him didn't know how.
Jake twitched his lips. He raised his head, lifted his chin slightly, drank water, his Adam's apple moving as he swallowed his anger.
"Fine, I'll keep doing these things."
What Timothy could do, Jake could do too!
How could Jake be worse than Timothy?
It was just mopping floors and washing clothes—piece of cake!
"I'll handle finding a housekeeper," Elizabeth decided.
"Okay."
The two had basically finished their one-sided argument when the doorbell rang.
Jake went to answer it.
He wasn't surprised at all to see Matthew at the door.
"I saw the news and knew you were back, so I came to check on you."
Matthew looked fake Timothy over, relieved to see he was fine.
Besides, Tommy and Jane were still so young—growing up without a father would be a loss. "Got time? Can we talk?"
Jake raised an eyebrow and let Matthew in. "You came to see me without bringing a gift?"
Matthew thought he was joking. "The car outside is a newly bought limited edition sports car. It's my first time driving it out today. Can I use it as a gift?"
"Sure, barely acceptable. Remember to leave the car and keys when you go." Jake smiled.
"Are you serious?"
"Serious."
Both had long legs and had already walked into the living room while talking.
Elizabeth wasn't surprised to see Matthew.
Matthew nodded at Elizabeth. "Ms. Penrose."
Matthew's gaze inadvertently fell on Elizabeth's belly, then moved away.
Jake sat down next to Elizabeth and asked casually, "What do you want to talk about?"
Matthew had thought Jake would take him to the study, but didn't expect to talk right here in the living room.
With Elizabeth sitting on the sofa, some things weren't convenient to say here.
Matthew smiled. "Can we talk in the study?"
Elizabeth smiled meaningfully. Emma also wanted to talk to Timothy last night.
Now it was Matthew's turn.
Jake felt he was quite free and decided to hear what Matthew had to say. "Sure, let's talk in the study."
The two went to the study. Elizabeth craned her neck, quite curious.
But she wasn't the type to eavesdrop on other people's conversations.
She boredly changed channels on the TV, though her mind was on the study.
In the study.
Because of Elizabeth's decorating, the study wasn't in a serious, minimalist style, but had a literary atmosphere throughout.
Matthew glanced around, sat down, and got straight to the point with an apology. "Timothy, I need to apologize to you. I couldn't bear to see Emma's child become an illegitimate child with an unknown father, so I contacted your father."
"I hope you can understand—no matter what, Emma is my family."
Timothy responded noncommittally.
Matthew changed the subject. As Emma's cousin, he complained, "You were too careless. Since you didn't want to continue with Emma, you should have taken proper precautions."
Matthew had many lovers himself, but he was always careful about protection—it was for everyone's good.
Jake sat in his chair, legs crossed, casually flipping through a book. After hearing Matthew's complaint, Jake sneered, "I never slept with your cousin. The child isn't mine."
As for whether Timothy had secretly slept with Emma, Jake couldn't care less.
Anyway, he hadn't.
Jake had a somewhat rogue way of thinking.
He was Jake, not really Timothy.
Matthew didn't expect to hear this. He was stunned. "You never slept together?"
"Right, never."
Jake's answer was definite.
Matthew's expression immediately turned ugly. He felt Timothy was shirking responsibility. Emma was Matthew's cousin, after all.
Timothy didn't want to take responsibility and said such things—it was too much.
"Timothy, a man should take responsibility. You can't be so irresponsible just because you want to be with Ms. Penrose!"
Jake glanced at Matthew with a half-smile, saying lazily, "I said I never did it, so I never did it. What, you want to force me?"
Seeing Jake still acting lazy, Matthew was really getting angry. "Tommy and Jane are at the Robinson family. Do you want to go do a paternity test with them?"
Emma couldn't possibly lie to him about this.
His eyes flickered. "Are you afraid Ms. Penrose will be angry?"
"Not afraid." Jake was telling the truth. What was there to be afraid of?
No man should be afraid of a woman being angry.
"If you still don't want to admit it, just do a paternity test with Tommy and Jane."
Matthew didn't want to keep arguing about this with Jake. If he did it, he did it—why be so irresponsible?
Jake kept smiling, his smile a bit wicked. "Sure, when I return to Border Ridge City, I'll do a paternity test with them."
Matthew's suggestion was actually a good idea.
Anyway, he had absolutely no relationship with Tommy and Jane. He wasn't really Timothy. When the test showed Tommy and Jane weren't descendants of the Robinson family, it would be a scandal for the Robinson family.
This was a great idea.
Jake couldn't wait to go to Border Ridge City.
"When the test shows Tommy and Jane are your children, what do you plan to do about my cousin?"
"What do you mean, what will I do? No plans."
Matthew fell silent.
He never knew Timothy had such a rogue side.
Matthew frowned. "Timothy, I'm being serious. Your father has already publicly acknowledged Emma's relationship with you. If you don't acknowledge Emma, she'll become a laughingstock in our circle."
Jake closed the book, raised an eyebrow, and smiled. "I'm not the one who told her to have them."
What did it matter to him if she became a laughingstock?
Matthew fell silent again.
After this conversation, Matthew understood it was going nowhere.
Matthew left with a cold face, angry.
Elizabeth, sitting in the living room, watched Matthew's angry departing figure and raised an eyebrow.
After Matthew left, she asked Jake, who was slowly walking out of the study, "What did you talk about? Matthew looked very angry."
Jake poured himself a glass of water, one hand on his hip, took a sip, and replied, "He wanted to force me to admit I slept with Emma and had children."
Very direct way of putting it.
Timothy's use of "force" was quite telling.
Elizabeth laughed softly, her eyes crinkling, drawing out her words. "I see."
"Don't worry, when we go to Border Ridge City, I'll immediately take those twins for a paternity test. If they're not my children, don't try to force them on me."
Elizabeth smiled. She picked up a cherry tomato with her fingers and said with a smile, "You used to make me wear green hats too."
"Impossible!" Jake said with a casual smile.
Elizabeth immediately put down the cherry tomato.
She was referring to when they had just met, back at the hotel when Timothy had made her wear several green hats.
Didn't he understand what she meant?
Jake walked over and put his arm around her shoulder. "Elizabeth, we'll go to Border Ridge City in three months. Then we'll do a paternity test to prove my innocence."
