Chapter 147 Extra Ribs
Actually, Emma hadn't planned on telling Manuel about Elizabeth's pregnancy at first.
But Emma thought it would be better to tell him than not to.
Manuel looked at Emma and smiled, like an easygoing family patriarch. "Emma, what do you think?"
The Robinson family didn't have many descendants, so naturally he wouldn't let Timothy's child end up out there somewhere.
When Emma heard Manuel ask her, she froze for a moment and said hesitantly, "I don't know."
"In that case, let's wait for Timo to come back and let him decide for himself. As for Ms. Penrose's pregnancy, we'll just pretend we don't know." Manuel picked up his milk and said, "It's late, you should go rest too."
"Okay, Mr. Robinson, you should rest early too."
Emma walked out of the study. She closed the door behind her, a faint smile appearing at the corner of her mouth.
Of course she knew that even though Manuel now knew about Elizabeth's pregnancy, he wouldn't do anything about it right now.
Elizabeth finally managed to fall asleep at the hotel last night.
When she woke up today, her head was finally clear.
She planned to stay at the hotel again tonight, then try going back to the apartment building at Faith Residence tomorrow.
First, she needed to go home and get some clean clothes.
Elizabeth lay in bed and picked up her phone. She just realized that Armando had sent her messages last night.
She didn't reply.
Elizabeth got up and washed up, ordered breakfast from room service, and after eating, put on a mask and hailed a taxi to go home.
The driver, Helena, looked very friendly.
Elizabeth sat in the passenger seat. When she turned to look out the window, her eyes happened to fall on the rearview mirror.
There was a black sedan behind them.
She noticed this black sedan.
The taxi departed from the Windward Hotel.
After driving for about ten minutes.
That black sedan kept following behind the taxi.
Elizabeth's heart beat rapidly. She said to Helena, "Ma'am, let's go to Global Mall first."
Helena replied, "Sure thing."
Elizabeth kept watching the car behind them. When Helena turned left at the intersection ahead, that black sedan followed again.
"Ma'am, there's a black sedan following us. Can you try to lose it?"
Helena was surprised. She quickly glanced at Elizabeth. "Are you a celebrity?"
"No."
Helena was curious. She looked at the black sedan behind them through the rearview mirror.
She couldn't tell if it was really tailing them.
Helena got nervous too and switched to another road. The roads in Silverlight City were well-connected anyway.
When she changed routes.
The black sedan behind them changed routes too.
Helena muttered, "Ma'am, are you in some kind of trouble? Do you want to get out at the next intersection?"
Elizabeth felt helpless but didn't insist. "Thank you."
"Never mind, I'll take you to Global Mall." Helena kept driving forward, but before long, the black sedan behind them turned and went somewhere else.
The black sedan stopped following them.
"Ma'am, you were overthinking it. That car wasn't following us."
Helena breathed a sigh of relief. She didn't want to get involved in anything weird.
Elizabeth stared at the rearview mirror. The black sedan that had been following them was gone.
Was it her persecution complex acting up again?
Elizabeth doubted herself for a moment.
"Ma'am, sorry, let's go to Integrity Road."
Half an hour later.
The taxi arrived at Integrity Road. Elizabeth paid and got out.
Helena turned to watch Elizabeth open the door and walk into her house. Helena smiled strangely.
Elizabeth got home planning to cook lunch first, then go to the hotel after eating.
She walked into the kitchen and opened the fridge to get the ribs, then suddenly froze.
She looked at the ribs in the fridge with confusion.
She remembered she had only bought one pack of ribs.
But now there were two packs of ribs in the fridge.
Why was there an extra pack now?
Elizabeth shuddered violently, as if plunged into an ice cave.
She tried hard to recall the scene of shopping at the supermarket. She had indeed only bought one pack of ribs.
Elizabeth's heart pounded as she closed the fridge door. She turned around and walked out of the kitchen.
She quickly searched for the receipt the cashier had printed when she checked out at the supermarket last time.
"It's not here. Did I throw it away?"
Elizabeth was already feeling scared.
She stopped looking for the receipt.
She hurried into the bedroom. She wanted to call the police but was afraid of alerting whoever it was.
She pulled out her suitcase and stuffed important items and several sets of clothes into it.
That extra pack of ribs kept bothering her.
Who could it be?
Elizabeth was packing when the doorbell rang.
Outside the front door, Armando rang the doorbell but no one came to open it.
He looked down at his phone and dialed Elizabeth's number.
In the bedroom, Elizabeth glanced at the caller ID and hung up.
Shortly after hanging up, she received a message from Armando.
[Elizabeth, open the door. I know you're home. Can we talk? If you don't open it, I'll keep standing at your door waiting for you]
Armando felt that if things continued like this between him and Elizabeth, there would never be any resolution.
So he decided to try to change this cold situation first.
Elizabeth saw the message and frowned. She walked to open the door with no expression on her face.
As soon as the door opened.
Armando first looked Elizabeth over.
She wasn't wearing a mask. At least this time he could see her face clearly.
He frowned.
Her complexion really didn't look good.
"Let's talk then. What does Mr. Johnson want to talk about? Can you say it all at once, please?"
Her words were really a bit harsh.
Armando was about to say something when he suddenly saw a small snake coiled on the big tree in the yard.
He took off his jacket. "Elizabeth, come out here, there's a snake."
Elizabeth was most afraid of those slippery, boneless snake creatures.
Seeing that Armando's expression didn't look like he was joking, she quickly walked outside and turned to look at the yard.
It was a green snake.
In this kind of big city, it was very rare, extremely rare, for a snake to get into someone's home.
Elizabeth thought again of the extra pack of ribs in the fridge.
Ribs couldn't just appear out of thin air, could they?
