Chapter 142 Approaching Her
Elizabeth woke up in the morning.
With messy hair, the first thing she did was search for any news about Timothy.
There was no news about Timothy today.
She had contacted people in Aquilonia to help look for him, but there was no news today either.
Elizabeth zoned out for a while, then got up to wash up.
Today she needed to get her passport replaced.
When she opened the drawer, she saw several bank cards.
Two of them were hers, and another was the card Timothy had given her. The day she was kidnapped, all the cards she had on her went missing. Fortunately, she wasn't in the habit of carrying all her cards with her.
Elizabeth's mind wandered.
After a simple breakfast, she drove to get her passport replaced. The passport would take ten days to be ready.
At noon, she had pasta at a restaurant, then went to the supermarket to buy groceries.
The house still needed cleaning.
She kept herself busy.
In the evening, for nutrition's sake, she chose to cook for herself.
While Elizabeth was stir-frying, someone suddenly came to mind.
Max.
Timothy's subordinate.
She turned off the stove and quickly grabbed her phone to call Max.
The phone rang for a long time. Finally, just when Elizabeth was about to lose hope, someone answered.
Max's voice was extremely hoarse. "Hello?"
Elizabeth breathed a sigh of relief hearing his voice. "It's me, Elizabeth. Where are you now? I want to ask about Timothy's situation."
Max walked to a corner and lowered his voice. "Ms. Penrose, I'm in Aquilonia. Are you asking about the boss's whereabouts? We're looking for him too. No news yet, but..."
"But what?" Elizabeth held onto the counter with one hand, supporting herself, gripping her phone tightly.
"We questioned a local resident in Aquilonia. He said he saw Mr. Robinson. That day, there were multiple explosions happening near Mr. Robinson."
When the explosions happened, some people were blown to pieces.
Elizabeth immediately understood what Max meant.
If Timothy was still alive, he must be seriously injured.
"Did you find anyone at the hospitals?" Elizabeth asked softly.
"No, we've searched almost all the hospitals here, but couldn't find anyone."
Max rubbed his temples. That was the key point. If he was really seriously injured and couldn't be found at any hospital, things looked bad.
Elizabeth asked about Timothy's reason for going to Aquilonia. From Max, she got a general idea.
Timothy had a grudge against Jake from the Sherman family in Border Ridge City. What exactly the grudge was about, Max wasn't very clear.
"Ms. Penrose, you need to watch out for the Sherman family back home. If they find out about your relationship with Mr. Robinson, they might cause trouble for you. Yesterday, the Sherman family also announced that Jake went missing in Aquilonia."
Max had other matters to attend to, so he hung up after saying this.
"Max, let's go. Who was that on the phone?"
Donny, who had come to Aquilonia to help search, walked over to Max and patted his shoulder.
"Mr. Robinson's woman."
Max checked the bullets in his gun as he spoke.
"That Miss Sutter who gave birth to twins for Mr. Robinson?" Donny had also seen the news from Border Ridge City.
Max didn't answer Donny's question.
Even Max wasn't sure, but when they set up Samuel last time, Joe had told him to follow Elizabeth's instructions.
"Let's head out. Next we'll search in the central province."
Finding the person was their top priority now.
Elizabeth, after hearing Max's call, kept the word "explosion" circling in her head.
She pressed her lips together and turned the stove back on.
Halfway through stir-frying, distracted, she burned the food.
Elizabeth gave up on her plan to cook dinner tonight. She decided to eat out. There was a private restaurant nearby, just a few minutes' walk away.
When she finished eating and came out of the restaurant, the streetlights were already on.
In the past, after she and Timothy finished eating, Timothy would always pull her out for a walk to digest.
Now under the streetlight, there was only her shadow.
She stood under the streetlight, strands of hair blown by the breeze floating to her cheek.
Elizabeth brushed the hair aside, took out her keys from her pocket, and tried to open the door.
Elizabeth was very confused.
She tried turning the key again, but the door still wouldn't open.
She was a bit dazed.
Just yesterday, she had Tobias change the lock!
Elizabeth put one hand on her hip and called Tobias. "Sir, the lock you changed for me yesterday won't open!"
Tobias, smoking and enjoying a small fan, frowned. "You're talking about that European-style villa on Integrity Road? That's impossible. Did you take the wrong key?"
Elizabeth instinctively looked at the key in her hand. "I didn't take the wrong one."
She didn't have Alzheimer's disease.
"Then wait a moment, I'll come right over." Tobias hung up, finding it hard to believe. In his decades-long career as a locksmith, he was having problems at Elizabeth's place.
Tobias, cigarette at the corner of his mouth, grabbed his tools and rushed over on his electric scooter.
Elizabeth stood at her doorstep, sighing helplessly.
What was going on? Such bad luck.
She sat cross-legged on the ground to wait.
The surroundings were quiet. Although it wasn't very late yet, people occasionally passed by, but Elizabeth was still a bit scared.
She considered hiring a bodyguard but was afraid of getting others involved.
A car passed by. Armando, sitting in the car, saw Elizabeth sitting at her doorstep.
She looked a bit homeless.
She looked a bit pitiful.
Elizabeth also noticed the car stopping at the villa next door. She didn't react much, glanced at it and looked away, checking the time on her phone.
How long would it take Tobias to get here? She should have asked earlier.
Armando got out of the car. He didn't go inside right away but stood for a moment, then walked toward next door.
Elizabeth heard footsteps and turned to see Armando walking toward her.
He walked up to her, pulled up his pant leg slightly, and squatted down halfway, resting his other elbow on his knee.
He looked at her and asked coolly, "Why aren't you going in? What are you sitting here for?"
Elizabeth shifted position, slightly widening the distance between them, looking up to see Armando's unfathomable gray eyes.
She said flatly, "Waiting for someone to fix the lock."
Armando raised an eyebrow. He looked at the door lock. It was just changed yesterday, wasn't it?
Elizabeth still felt they were too close.
She chose to push herself up from the ground and stand.
Tonight she wore a knee-length dress, her smooth calves exposed.
Armando's gaze swept past her calves, then he looked up to see her standing back again.
He stood up.
Walked closer to her.
A man's natural height advantage sometimes creates pressure for women.
