Chapter 374 Not His Favorite
Seraphina noticed the flash of doubt in Demetrius's eyes.
She kept smiling.
When Cordelia heard they knew each other, she laughed, "You're quite interesting, and you look pretty good too. Let's dance together again next time."
When Seraphina heard Cordelia compliment her looks, she almost couldn't maintain her smile.
Even Timothy and Elizabeth felt too awkward to say Seraphina looked good.
Cordelia had the same body type as Seraphina. Maybe because of this similarity, the two of them felt a connection, which is why Cordelia thought Seraphina looked good.
Seraphina awkwardly returned the compliment, "You look great too."
Gavin held back his laughter, while Demetrius acted as if he hadn't heard the awkward exchange between Cordelia and Seraphina.
"Ma'am, I'll be going now." Seraphina smiled and waved, ready to leave.
"Wait, since everyone knows each other, why don't you come to my house for dinner?"
Cordelia looked quite serious, but she familiarly took Seraphina's hand. "Girl, what's your name?"
Seraphina was surprised that Cordelia would so warmly invite her home for dinner.
Seraphina smiled. She was about to politely decline, but remembering Demetrius's suspicious look earlier, she deliberately glanced at him hesitantly, then looked at Cordelia. "You're too kind. Maybe I can visit another time. My name is Seraphina Penrose."
Cordelia looked up and glared at Demetrius. "Why are you putting on such a stern face? You're scaring her. With that attitude, how did the Fairfax family's daughter not run away from you?"
Cordelia didn't yet know that Adelaide had already been scared off.
Demetrius said calmly, "Grandmother, don't make things difficult for Ms. Penrose. Ms. Penrose has things to take care of."
If she really had things to do, Cordelia couldn't be unreasonable. She said regretfully, "Seraphina, if there's a chance in the future, let's dance together again."
Seraphina couldn't help but smile inwardly. "Okay."
She picked up her things, waved goodbye to Cordelia.
After Seraphina left, Cordelia snorted coldly at Demetrius, put her hands behind her back, and walked forward. "Seraphina wasn't deliberately trying to get close to me. Do you think I'm senile?"
She actually used the word "senile."
Demetrius helplessly followed. "Grandmother, I'm sorry. I was wrong."
Cordelia glanced at him. "Save that apology for Seraphina. Your mother said you're planning to marry that Fairfax family girl? When?"
Cordelia had met Adelaide twice and didn't really like her personality. She wasn't very likable.
But if Demetrius liked her, Cordelia wouldn't object.
Demetrius replied calmly, "We're not getting married anymore. She thinks I control her too much."
Cordelia immediately stopped in her tracks and said angrily, "What did you say? How shameless of the Fairfax family! Saying you control her too much? You're already so busy yourself, how did you control her?"
"She thinks I restrict her freedom to make friends," Demetrius's voice remained calm. "Grandmother, there's no need to get angry over this. If she doesn't think it's right, then we won't force it. But we don't need to help the Fairfax family anymore."
Cordelia snorted disapprovingly. "Fine, if they're not getting married, then forget it. Good riddance. Always putting on that fake act of being high and mighty, it's annoying to watch."
Cordelia kept complaining. "The Fairfax family is so shameless. Since they're calling off the engagement, why did they send gifts to me and your grandfather the other day? Are they trying to make everyone think our families are still on good terms?"
Demetrius raised an eyebrow. After thinking about it, he guessed that Adelaide probably kept the broken engagement secret from the Fairfax family.
He didn't bother explaining for the Fairfax family. There was no need.
Cordelia snorted. "No way. After I finish eating, I'm going to spread the word that you've called off the engagement, and return the gifts the Fairfax family sent."
Cordelia was protecting Demetrius.
A faint smile briefly crossed Demetrius's lips. "Okay, thank you, Grandmother."
Just as Cordelia got into the car, she suddenly asked, "That girl named Seraphina just now, is she married? Does she have a boyfriend?"
Demetrius fell silent.
Gavin, sitting in the passenger seat, also fell silent when he heard Cordelia's question, wanting to give Demetrius a sympathetic look.
Cordelia frowned. "Are you deaf? I'm asking you a question."
Demetrius sighed inwardly, his expression still calm. "She has a boyfriend."
Fortunately, Seraphina wasn't single. Based on his understanding of Cordelia's personality, he could guess what she meant by asking.
Honestly, Demetrius didn't like girls who looked like Seraphina.
Although he didn't care much about women's looks or desire.
But Demetrius admitted he couldn't accept Seraphina's body type.
He'd rather find someone who was easier on the eyes.
Cordelia muttered regretfully, "What a shame. All the good girls belong to other people."
Demetrius said, "You just met her. How do you know she's a good girl?"
Seraphina was quite calculating too.
Cordelia glared at Demetrius. "She looks so much like me, she must be excellent. You don't understand. Too bad you two aren't meant to be."
Demetrius immediately shut up. This wasn't a topic to argue with Cordelia about.
Besides, she wasn't his type anyway.
The next day, Seraphina put on her backpack, picked up the gifts she bought for her family, and went to check out.
As soon as she walked out of the hotel, she saw Gavin.
Gavin smiled. "Ms. Penrose, Mr. Kramer asked me to take you to the airport."
Seraphina raised an eyebrow and got into the car without hesitation.
When the car reached the airport.
Seraphina got out. She turned around and said to Gavin with a smile, "I received Mr. Kramer's apology. I'm not that petty. Tell him not to overthink things next time."
After speaking, she couldn't help but smile slightly, then turned and walked into the airport.
Gavin was stunned for a moment, then smiled.
Once again, he admired the perceptiveness of Seraphina, the future heir of Seraphina Enterprises.
Gavin hadn't said anything, yet she had already guessed Demetrius's intention.
Yesterday, Demetrius had suspected whether Seraphina was deliberately getting close to Cordelia. Today, he specifically asked Gavin to take Seraphina to the airport as an apology.
Gavin returned from the airport to The McDowell Mansion.
"Gavin, you're here. Come sit with me and watch TV." Cordelia waved.
Gavin smiled. "Sure, this show is pretty good."
Cordelia was surprised. "I didn't expect you to watch this kind of show. Not like Demetrius, whose face is full of disgust, thinking this show is stupid."
Demetrius watched the TV expressionlessly, enduring the torture of this idiotic plot.
He watched the drama with Cordelia for a while. Cordelia, disgusted by Demetrius's face full of disdain, urged him to leave quickly.
Demetrius walked to the yard, and Gavin followed him out.
"Ms. Penrose said she received your apology. She's not that petty. She told you not to overthink things next time."
Gavin relayed Seraphina's words to Demetrius almost word for word.
