Chapter 261 She Really Dares
As night fell, Alfonso stared quietly at Mabel.
He was almost dying of anger right now.
"What do you mean 'got tired of sleeping together'?"
Alfonso cursed silently to himself. He knew he needed to calm down, or he'd do something he couldn't take back.
"Mabel, get up. We need to talk!"
"Don't want to talk, don't want to listen."
Just then, a sudden phone call broke the tense atmosphere between Alfonso and Mabel.
Alfonso glanced at the caller ID and frowned slightly before answering.
"Alfonso, Ms. Coleman fell down the stairs. She's in the hospital being treated now," came Sophia Torres's anxious voice from the other end. "You'd better come back."
The room was so quiet that even Mabel could faintly hear Sophia's voice on the phone.
Alfonso quickly got up. "Which hospital?"
His tone was urgent.
Sophia on the other end told him the hospital's name.
"I'm heading back now." Alfonso hung up and immediately went to grab his clothes.
While getting dressed, he turned to look at Mabel on the bed. "Mabel Darling, my mom fell down the stairs. I have to go back."
Seeing how rushed he was, Mabel didn't say anything more to delay him and just nodded. "Go quickly."
Alfonso looked at her deeply, quickly finished dressing, grabbed his phone, and hurried out of the room.
Mabel watched his hurried figure leave and pressed her lips together.
She hoped Maya would be okay.
Alfonso left Border Ridge City on a flight that same night.
The next morning, sunlight streamed through the gaps in the curtains into the room.
Mabel got up and checked her phone. No messages. She had no idea how Maya was doing.
Mabel had originally planned to visit Elizabeth's new place today, but she got a call from Elizabeth saying she had to go to the Sherman Group, so they rescheduled their meeting.
After calling Mabel, Elizabeth put her phone on the table and stood in front of the mirror, applying light makeup.
In the morning, Jacob stood waiting at the door. Elizabeth came out, glanced at him, and they quickly got in the car.
"Ms. Penrose, please have breakfast first," Jacob handed over an insulated container with a smile. "I made porridge this morning."
Elizabeth took it and started eating.
She suddenly realized that having a personal assistant was actually quite convenient.
There wasn't much traffic on the road, and the scenery outside the window flew by.
She ate her porridge while thinking about the shareholders she'd be meeting today.
Elizabeth had fought fire with fire, using the media to heavily report on Maddox's arrest.
In such a short time, the Sherman Group had seen two chairmen unable to hold their positions for long, which easily made people wonder if there were internal problems at the Sherman Group.
Sure enough, this morning's stock had experienced another sharp drop.
The car arrived at the Sherman Group. Elizabeth walked into the building where Robbie was already waiting for her at the entrance.
Robbie walked over to Elizabeth and said respectfully, "The shareholders have basically all arrived."
Elizabeth nodded, gathered her thoughts, and they headed to the conference room.
The shareholders sat in their respective seats, each wearing different expressions.
The Sherman Group's recent troubles had made the money in their pockets shrink.
Elizabeth entered the conference room and took her seat. Her gaze swept across the room, and she noticed Rocco looking at her. She smiled faintly.
Chris also glanced at Elizabeth, his face darkening.
The meeting began, with Rocco speaking first. "We need to select a new chairman now to stabilize this crisis as soon as possible."
Elizabeth said nothing and just listened.
One shareholder said coldly, "These repeated incidents have already damaged the company's image and reputation. The company needs a leader with determination who can take the Sherman Group further."
Chris and his group held fewer shares, so to get the chairman position, they needed support from other shareholders.
Elizabeth waited until they'd finished discussing among themselves before standing up and walking to the chairman's seat.
Otha frowned coldly. "Elizabeth, what are you trying to do now? We've already expressed doubts about your previous management abilities. We won't be selecting you as chairman this time, so give it up."
In their eyes, although Elizabeth held twenty percent of the shares, without support from other shareholders, she couldn't possibly be elected chairman.
Elizabeth maintained a calm smile amid the shareholders' doubts and responded coolly, "Why wouldn't everyone choose me as chairman? The strategies used to handle the Silicon Express shipwreck and smuggling were all strategies I developed when I was still chairman."
Her words plunged the conference room into awkward silence.
Chris sneered. "Well, I won't be voting for you anyway."
Elizabeth nodded, showing understanding, and without hesitation pulled out the chair and sat directly in the chairman's seat.
The shareholders looked at her action with dissatisfaction and contempt.
Chris laughed mockingly. "Just sit there temporarily and enjoy it while you can." He turned to look at the other shareholders. "Let's vote now to select a new chairman."
Elizabeth sighed and smiled helplessly. "Everyone, please hear me out first. Don't rush. A shareholder with over fifty percent of the shares has absolute controlling rights. I'm really sorry everyone, but the chairman of the Sherman Group will still be me."
Chris frowned and glared at Elizabeth angrily. "What do you mean?"
Elizabeth calmly took out a document and placed it on the table. "This is a share transfer agreement. After multiple negotiations, I've purchased enough shares from other shareholders. I now hold over fifty percent of the Sherman Group's shares."
She originally had twenty percent, and Timothy had given her Delbert's fifteen percent, plus Timothy had also transferred his own twenty percent of the Sherman Group to her.
These shares added up to fifty-five percent, giving her absolute final decision-making power in the Sherman Group.
Elizabeth lowered her eyes, thinking of Timothy.
As soon as Elizabeth finished speaking, the conference room erupted in chaos, with shareholders' faces full of surprise.
Otha looked at the document, stood up with an ashen face. "This is impossible! You couldn't have bought so many shares so quickly!"
Elizabeth looked at him calmly with a firm tone. "Facts speak louder than words. This agreement has signatures. You can verify it."
Chris and his group looked terrible.
What the hell was Delbert playing at!
And they never imagined that Timothy actually owned twenty percent of the Sherman Group's shares!
Why did everything come full circle, only to end up giving Elizabeth over half of the Sherman Group's shares?
Elizabeth smiled faintly. "All my transactions were legal and compliant. Everyone, instead of arguing here, why not look at the new plan I've developed for the company? This plan will not only stabilize the current situation but also achieve greater development in the future."
Chris looked at the other shareholders, trying to seek support. "Are you all going to believe her so easily?"
One shareholder said in a deep voice, "Chris, Ms. Penrose already holds over fifty percent of the shares."
Elizabeth stood up and smiled at everyone. "Thank you all for your trust. I will prove through actual actions that I will lead the Sherman Group to new heights."
The shareholders had to reassess this woman Elizabeth.
They began to realize that this seemingly harmless Elizabeth actually possessed wisdom.
Who could have imagined that in such a short time, she'd managed to take down both Delbert and Maddox, who had threatened her the most?
Seeing that she'd intimidated them, Elizabeth continued calmly, "There's one more thing. The Sherman Group will soon be renamed Seraphina Enterprises."
What?
Change the company name?
Chris and his group immediately voiced their opposition.
"We won't agree to the name change!" Chris and the others were laughing with anger. This Elizabeth really dared!
She really did dare.
