Chapter 259 Stop Her for Me
Elizabeth looked at the message from Timothy. She didn't save his new number, but she didn't delete it either.
She put her phone away.
The car slowly stopped in front of Maddox's house.
Elizabeth collected herself.
Jacob had already gotten out and opened the car door for Elizabeth. She calmly stepped out.
Elizabeth walked into Maddox's villa, where luxurious decorations caught her eye.
Guests in fancy outfits were raising glasses, chatting and dancing. The whole scene was lively.
Elizabeth took a quick look around and could tell that not many people were actually invited to this birthday party.
When Maddox's current wife, Willow Reed, saw Elizabeth, a slight smile appeared on her face. "Ms. Penrose, welcome."
Elizabeth smiled faintly and nodded politely. "Ms. Reed, happy birthday."
Elizabeth reached out to take the gift from Jacob and handed it to Willow.
Willow accepted the gift. When she saw that Elizabeth had only brought the young-looking Jacob with her, her smile became more genuine. "Thank you."
Willow really thought Elizabeth wasn't smart—probably just relied on her stunning looks to charm people.
How could such a stupid woman like Elizabeth manage the Sherman Group?
Although Willow looked down on Elizabeth in her heart, her face was all smiles.
"Sis," a plain-looking man holding a wine glass walked up to Willow. "It's time to cut the cake."
He saw Elizabeth, and his gaze froze for a moment.
Elizabeth lazily lifted her eyelids and glanced at him—that cold, striking look.
"Sis, who is this?" Hugo Reed put on the act of a proper gentleman.
"Ms. Penrose." Willow knew her brother Hugo liked cold, striking women.
Willow didn't want to introduce Elizabeth too much. If Elizabeth still had the status of Jake's wife, she could introduce her directly.
Hugo extended his hand and said to Elizabeth with a smile, "Ms. Penrose, hello. I'm Hugo Reed."
Elizabeth glanced coldly at that hand and went straight to find a sofa to sit on.
Jacob smiled, showing cute dimples at the corners of his mouth. He deliberately bumped Hugo's outstretched hand away.
Hugo was stunned for a moment—first time he'd met someone so disrespectful.
Willow was also angry. What was wrong with this Elizabeth woman? No manners at all!
A few female guests saw this and covered their mouths, laughing.
Willow and Hugo's family background was just so-so. The people who came to the party today weren't important figures in the family.
Willow snorted coldly to herself. After tonight, she'd like to see if Elizabeth could still be this arrogant.
"I'm going upstairs to get Maddox. Time to cut the cake. Behave yourself and don't go bothering her." After Willow finished speaking, she went upstairs first.
Hugo tilted his head back and drank the wine in his hand, his eyes looking toward Elizabeth.
Jacob's eyes coldly swept over Hugo through his sunglasses. Someone who looked like that dared to have designs on Elizabeth?
The lights at the party were dazzling.
Several ladies occasionally glanced at Elizabeth sitting on the sofa. They chatted in low voices, seeming somewhat curious.
Elizabeth's expression was calm. She held a wine glass in her hand, gently swirling it without taking a sip, and paid no attention to those examining gazes.
Willow lifted her dress with one hand and gracefully went upstairs to the study.
She knocked on the study door, pushed it open, walked up to Maddox, and said in a low voice, "Honey, Ms. Penrose only brought a young man with her, and he doesn't look like a bodyguard."
Maddox nodded and laughed mockingly, his eyes showing contempt. "Really stupid. She probably doesn't even know what's going to happen today."
Willow nodded. The two exchanged a knowing look.
Chris looked at Rocco. "Rocco, you've been worried she'd be fully prepared. Look at her—what preparation does she have?"
Rocco smiled. "I was overthinking it."
Maddox stood up. Willow took his arm, and the two went downstairs together to the main hall.
Maddox walked onto the stage, raised his wine glass, and said to the guests with a smile, "Today, thank you all for taking time out of your busy schedules to attend my wife's birthday party. Please enjoy yourselves tonight."
As soon as Maddox finished speaking, Hugo and the butler pushed out a six-layer cake in front of everyone.
Maddox and Willow cut the cake together as husband and wife. The guests applauded in congratulations, and the atmosphere became very lively for a moment.
After cutting the cake, Maddox walked toward Elizabeth with a smile.
Elizabeth narrowed her eyes slightly, a silent smile appearing at the corners of her mouth. She understood the main event was about to begin.
Maddox walked up to Elizabeth with a hint of a smile. "I heard you want to buy Chris's shares in the Sherman Group?"
Elizabeth looked up, her gaze cool. She replied lightly, "That's right. Too bad he won't sell."
Maddox smiled and continued, "Shall we talk in the study? I actually want to buy your shares too."
Elizabeth raised an eyebrow. She agreed without hesitation, which surprised Maddox a bit.
He thought Elizabeth would decline, but she was so straightforward.
Just as he was getting suspicious, Elizabeth said, "If you can give me a good price, I can sell you my shares."
Maddox smiled.
The three of them went upstairs to the study together.
Elizabeth didn't ask Jacob to leave, and Maddox didn't care either. He thought Jacob was just a harmless young man.
In the study, when Chris and the others saw Elizabeth come in, they exchanged meaningful glances.
This stupid.
The study's bookshelves were filled with various books, and several famous paintings hung on the walls. Elizabeth raised an eyebrow. "I really didn't expect you to have this kind of scholarly taste."
Her words carried sarcasm.
Maddox snorted coldly, not caring at all.
He sat on the sofa, directly opened a document, and pushed it in front of Elizabeth. "This is a share transfer contract. Sign it."
Not buy—directly transfer.
Elizabeth looked at him curiously, then smiled and chose an empty seat to sit down. "What if I don't sign?"
Maddox's eyes held a trace of coldness as he spoke slowly, "That's not up to you."
Elizabeth still maintained a composed attitude. She leaned back in her chair. "If I don't sign, what can you do to me?"
Chris snorted coldly. "We're being polite by asking you to sign, Elizabeth. Don't be ungrateful."
A flash of coldness crossed Elizabeth's eyes as she said coldly, "Are you threatening me? The shares in my hands—you can't easily get them."
Otha had a more impatient personality. He wasn't going to waste words with a woman like Elizabeth. "Stop the nonsense. Let her taste some pain first, then she'll know fear."
Maddox's face darkened, his eyes showing a cruel look. "Elizabeth, do you really think you can escape today without signing?"
Elizabeth smiled slightly. "I advise you to think twice."
Just then, the study door was pushed open, and several bodyguards in black suits walked in.
Jacob moved closer to Elizabeth to protect her. He took off his annoying sunglasses and put them in his pocket.
Elizabeth looked up and glanced at Jacob's actions, deciding to give him a raise.
Maddox and the others didn't take Jacob seriously. Instead, they said coldly, "Elizabeth, last chance. Sign, or you won't be leaving here."
Elizabeth sighed. "People should still follow the law."
Chris couldn't help but laugh out loud, with mockery. "Naive woman."
As soon as Chris finished speaking, Hugo pushed open the door, looking panicked. "Maddox, this is bad. There are police downstairs looking for you."
Maddox frowned, his tone displeased. "Why are you panicking!"
He didn't like Willow's brother Hugo at all.
Elizabeth smiled and said, "See, how important it is to follow the law."
She got up to leave but was blocked by Maddox's bodyguards.
Just as the atmosphere became tense, Jacob suddenly made a move, kicking extremely fast toward the bodyguard's vital area.
The kick was so fast, in the blink of an eye,
the other person was already clutching his penis and howling.
Elizabeth was stunned for a moment.
Jacob gave her an innocent smile, his face slightly red. He kicked the wrong place—how could he kick someone's penis in front of Elizabeth?
"Ms. Penrose, let's go."
Elizabeth looked strangely at the blushing Jacob.
Maddox shouted in exasperation, "Stop her!"
However, Hugo, standing at the study door, suddenly shouted, "The police are already coming upstairs!"
Chris and the others also panicked. Why did the police suddenly show up?
