Chapter 254 Knowing the News of the Divorce
[Mr. Robinson is flying to Solstice at six tonight]
Elizabeth looked down at the message and stared at it for over ten minutes before replying to Joe.
[Have a safe trip]
When Joe saw Elizabeth's message, his body stiffened slightly because Timothy was sitting right next to him, staring at Joe's phone screen.
Timothy turned his head back, his lips pressed tightly together, his jaw clenched.
After Elizabeth returned home from The Nightingale Mansion, she went straight to her bedroom to sleep.
She wrapped herself completely in the blankets.
At four-thirty, Elizabeth got up, changed her clothes, and hurried downstairs.
"Elizabeth, aren't you having dinner?" Mabel quickly asked, her eyes full of confusion.
"No, I have something to take care of," Elizabeth replied quickly and rushed out the door.
This was rush hour in Border Ridge City, and the roads were packed with traffic, completely jammed.
Elizabeth gripped the steering wheel tightly, her brow furrowed as she glanced at the time.
As the traffic gradually thinned out, the car finally got onto the highway, and the road conditions ahead improved.
She pressed harder on the gas pedal. The engine let out a low rumble as the speed kept increasing.
Just like her heartbeat, which was racing faster with the speed.
The scenery outside the window flew by in reverse. The tall buildings lining the streets sparkled with lights in the night.
The airport lights appeared on the horizon ahead. The car quickly entered the airport and stopped in the designated parking area.
She didn't get out of the car. Instead, she rolled down the window and looked up at the sky.
She watched as a plane flew across the sky, gradually disappearing into the distance.
On the plane, Timothy looked down at the buildings on the ground through the window.
His fingers gently touched the wedding ring on his left ring finger.
Elizabeth closed the car window, started the engine, and prepared to go home.
Outside the car window, the city's neon lights reflected on her face, making it especially clear, with a faint smile at the corner of her mouth.
A bitter yet relieved smile.
The flight from Border Ridge City to Solstice took a full twenty hours. The plane finally landed at Solstice airport.
As Timothy walked out of the airport and was about to get in the car, he thought he heard someone calling out "Elizabeth."
Timothy's movements stopped instantly, and a surge of hope rose in his heart.
He turned his head and looked in the direction of the voice.
Not far away, a young woman was pulling her suitcase, happily walking toward the person who had come to meet her.
The anticipation in Timothy's heart gradually faded. That wasn't his Elizabeth.
He shook his head helplessly.
Then he got into the car and closed the door. The quiet inside the car formed a sharp contrast with the noise outside.
The driver started the car and slowly drove out of the airport.
Timothy leaned back in his seat, closed his eyes, and images flashed through his mind of the brief time when the three of them were together as a family.
Maybe without him, Elizabeth's life would go more smoothly.
"Sarah, that man seemed to be looking at you just now," her friend said quietly beside her. "We could never afford that car."
Sarah rolled her eyes at her friend. "Stop talking nonsense. Let's go quickly, I'm so tired."
She dragged her suitcase, her steps somewhat hurried. Perhaps because of travel fatigue, she just wanted to lie down in bed as soon as possible and get a good night's sleep.
Mary Pearl was Maddox's ex-wife.
They had two sons and one daughter. The eldest son had already passed away from illness, the youngest daughter had married abroad and her life wasn't going well, and the second son, Finnegan Sherman, stayed with Mary.
After the couple divorced, all the children stayed with Mary.
Maddox then married another younger wife and had two more sons.
At the time, Mary left the marriage with the children but nothing else.
After Elizabeth had Robbie investigate the people in the Sherman family, she specifically circled Mary's name.
Mary was currently worried about Finnegan's situation. Finnegan had started a company that was on the verge of bankruptcy.
Mary went to Maddox for help and got the response: "You're on your own."
Just when she didn't know what to do, Elizabeth approached her.
Elizabeth said she would help her, but Mary still hadn't received any news until now.
Mary had already given up hope.
Just as she was thinking about who else she could borrow money from, she received a message.
[Elizabeth and Timothy are already divorced. She's had a falling out with the Nightingale family]
"Elizabeth and Timothy are divorced? Had a falling out with the Nightingale family?" Mary muttered to herself, feeling very confused.
Mary didn't quite understand why Robbie was sending her this message.
Right after that, she received a second message: [Tell your ex-husband this news]
Mary hesitated for a moment.
Elizabeth had promised her five percent of the Sherman Group's shares. That was too tempting for her.
It was just passing along a couple of sentences. Mary immediately called Maddox.
"I told you, I won't help him. If his little company goes bankrupt, so be it. Idiot, no ability, yet he wants to run a company," Maddox's angry voice came through the phone, with a hint of impatience.
Mary spoke up, her voice trembling slightly, "I have something important to tell you."
Maddox was very impatient. "What is it?"
Mary quickly organized her thoughts. "When I went out for tea with some friends today, I heard some news. Elizabeth and Timothy are already divorced, and she's also had a falling out with the Nightingale family."
Women love to chat anyway, and a lot of information can easily be learned through chatting.
Maddox was stunned for a moment, then let out a cold laugh. "Where did you hear this from? How could Timothy let something like this get out so easily?"
Maddox had witnessed the grand scene of Timothy and Elizabeth's wedding. How could they divorce so quickly?
Mary knew Maddox wouldn't easily believe her, so she just smiled. "Could it be false information? Never mind then, just pretend you didn't hear it. I'm out of money, can you..."
As soon as Maddox heard Mary mention money, he hung up directly.
Mary heard the phone disconnect and snorted coldly. She replied to Robbie's message: [Done as you said]
After Maddox hung up, his expression was happy.
If Elizabeth had really divorced Timothy and fallen out with the Nightingale family, then Elizabeth had no backing anymore!
He immediately contacted his trusted assistant and had him investigate the situation between Elizabeth and Timothy first.
Actually, he wanted to know even more what had happened at the wedding that day.
Unfortunately, Timothy's confidentiality work was done very well.
Just as happy as Maddox was Chris.
Chris hung up the phone with amusement. He didn't expect Elizabeth would contact him. "She really doesn't know her place. Elizabeth actually wants to meet me tomorrow?"
Rocco Sherman frowned. "We still need to be careful in our actions. She has Timothy by her side and the Nightingale family behind her. She's not someone we can just push around."
Just as Rocco finished speaking, Maddox pushed the door open, his face showing a hint of a smile.
"Don't worry. She and Timothy are already divorced, they just haven't announced it publicly. As for the Nightingale family, her daughter Seraphina seems to have gotten into some trouble, and it has something to do with Freya. I'd guess her relationship with the Nightingale family won't be too good."
Chris asked in surprise, "Is this news true?"
Maddox sat down on the sofa, looking confident. "Pretty much certain."
A flash of greed appeared in Chris's eyes. "Then the Sherman Group shares she holds should be returned to the Sherman family."
