Chapter 228 Fool
"Idiot!"
"You just need to do as I arranged. If you use the people you found, Timothy will track them down very quickly. We just need to buy some time, that's all."
Elara's voice on the other end was full of mockery. After scolding Emma, she hung up.
Emma's hand trembled slightly as she held her phone, her expression changing repeatedly.
This was the first time anyone had called her an idiot to her face, and she felt deeply humiliated.
She had only raised some concerns—that woman called Wendy clearly seemed worse than the person she had originally arranged.
What shocked and unsettled someone as sensitive as Emma even more was that Elara somehow knew about her arranging for a woman to get plastic surgery. It was truly creepy.
"Damn it." Emma gritted her teeth and cursed under her breath.
She knew she had no way out now and could only continue following Elara's instructions.
She still had to go find Freya later.

"Ms. Penrose, your milk tea is here." A deep voice came through.
Elizabeth looked up to see Timothy standing in the doorway and couldn't help but smile. "What brings you here?"
She had thought it was Robbie coming in.
Timothy smiled as he took off his mask and hat, revealing his handsome face.
He raised the milk tea in his hand and said lazily, "Bringing you a special delivery of milk tea."
Elizabeth looked at the milk tea in his hand, feeling warm inside. "Mr. Robinson, how thoughtful. Thank you."
He placed the milk tea on the desk, one hand resting on the table as he leaned forward, his broad shoulders and narrow waist clearly defined.
Across the desk, he lifted Elizabeth's chin with his fingers.
His movements were smooth and natural.
Elizabeth tilted her neck slightly, her red lips parting as Timothy's hand caressed her chin.
After it ended, Elizabeth made Timothy go sit properly on the sofa.
She didn't want to play any games in the office.
She still had some sense of shame.
"Did you come to see me about something?" Elizabeth paused her work. She inserted the straw into the cup, stirred the milk tea gently, and took a sip. The sweet taste made her eyes narrow with pleasure.
Timothy nodded. "I found some new leads today. I had someone look into Emma. Before Wendy came to stage the car accident, she had gone to Emma's place for an interview to work as a maid."
Hearing this, Elizabeth frowned slightly, feeling somewhat uneasy. "I keep feeling this whole thing is aimed at me, or at the Nightingale family."
Thinking about Wendy's current appearance, Elizabeth made a decision. "Mr. Robinson, should we send Wendy away from Border Ridge City first?"
Timothy nodded. "We can send her away temporarily."
Elizabeth also felt this was the best option for now. "Let's do that then. We need to arrange to get her out of here as soon as possible."
---
"I really never imagined Elizabeth was my long-lost daughter. You have no idea—your godfather has been so happy these past few days he can't even sleep at night." Freya smiled warmly, then turned to look at Emma, noticing she seemed to be spacing out. "Emma, what are you thinking about?"
Freya had made dinner plans with Elizabeth for tonight and was now at the mall buying gifts for her.
Emma happened to need to see Freya about something.
So they arranged to meet at the mall.
Emma snapped back to attention and smiled. "Sorry, godmother, I was just lost in thought."
Freya picked up an exquisite necklace and examined it carefully. "I wonder if Elizabeth will like this necklace."
Seeing Freya happily selecting a necklace for Elizabeth, Emma felt a cold darkness inside.
But Emma kept a gentle smile on her face. "Godmother's taste is excellent, of course. You can use me as a model to see how it looks."
Freya smiled and handed the necklace to Emma. "Good idea, Emma. Put it on and let me see how it looks."
Emma took the necklace. "Okay."
She skillfully put on the necklace. Freya looked her over carefully and nodded with satisfaction. "Emma, this necklace looks beautiful on you too."
Emma smiled. "Thank you, godmother. I think this necklace would definitely suit Ms. Penrose as well."
Freya nodded, her eyes full of anticipation. "I hope Elizabeth will like it."
This was her first time buying something for Elizabeth, and she felt truly delighted.
A flash of jealousy and resentment crossed Emma's heart, but she knew she couldn't show it now.
After Freya finished buying the gift for Elizabeth, the two of them found a restaurant for afternoon tea. Since they needed to talk about something, Emma had specifically booked a private room.
Only then did Freya have time to ask Emma what she wanted to see her about today.
Emma lowered her eyes to stare at the teacup in her hands, her face showing a hesitant expression. Finally, she spoke: "Godmother, you should know that Elizabeth and I don't get along."
Freya looked surprised. She looked at Emma seriously: "Emma, why bring this up all of a sudden?"
Emma looked up, her smile somewhat bitter. "There's something I didn't want to mention, but since I saw it, I should tell you. Three days ago, I interviewed a maid, and her appearance was somewhat similar to yours."
Freya frowned. "What do you mean?"
Emma continued, "That maid is called Wendy. She came from a village to work in Border Ridge City. At first I didn't pay attention, but her appearance really does look like yours, which caught my attention."
As she spoke, she took out a small bag from her purse containing a small clump of hair. "This is her hair."
Freya looked at the small bag of hair Emma placed in front of her, not immediately understanding. "What do you mean?"
Emma said quietly, "Godmother, her appearance really does look like yours. It feels like you could be mother and daughter. So I'm suspicious about her identity, but since I'm not sure, I can't say anything carelessly."
Freya took a deep breath, a trace of unease flashing in her eyes. "You want me to do a paternity test with this Ms. Caldwell?"
Emma nodded. She smiled faintly and said, "I didn't want to mention this, but it's just too strange."
Freya fell into thought, complex emotions welling up inside her.
Freya had already accepted that Elizabeth was their daughter, but now, looking at that bag of hair, a trace of doubt arose in her heart.
Freya finally made up her mind. "I'll do another paternity test and see what the results show."
"Godmother, could we not tell godfather about this yet? I'm worried that if the paternity test shows Ms. Caldwell has no relation to you, godfather will be angry with me." Emma said with concern.
Freya nodded. "Alright, I won't mention it for now."
Emma smiled awkwardly, secretly breathing a sigh of relief.
She had temporarily completed the task Elara had given her.
