Chapter 142 One Dollar
Elizabeth frowned, "Mr. Johnson, can I ask you a favor?"
"Go ahead."
Elizabeth had the door right behind her.
She had nowhere to retreat even if she wanted to.
She calmly looked up and said, "How much did it cost you to rescue me from that place? I can't repay the favor, but I can pay back the money first."
After hearing Elizabeth's words, Armando chuckled softly, his voice slightly cool, "Did I rescue you just to get my money back?"
Elizabeth looked skeptical and asked very seriously, "Then why did you suddenly become so kind and rescue me?"
Armando's throat tightened.
Given Elizabeth's current guarded attitude toward him, if he dared to say he wanted to pursue her again, she would immediately turn on him.
How could there be such a difficult woman as Elizabeth?
He felt defeated.
The atmosphere became awkward for a moment.
He adjusted his sleeves, his face cold, "One dollar."
Elizabeth, "What?"
"One dollar to ransom you back." Armando was angry, and you could tell from his expression that he was upset.
Elizabeth moved her lips, hesitating a bit, then she opened her wallet and looked through it. She actually found one dollar.
"One dollar, here you go."
Her fingers lightly pinched that one dollar bill and held it out to Armando.
Her expression was very calm.
After all, he said one dollar himself. Whether it was true or not, she had paid him back.
Armando glanced at Elizabeth's face indifferently, and after a few seconds, his gaze fell on her slender fingers.
He paused, then took the one dollar.
Right after, he heard Elizabeth say coolly, "From now on when we meet, we should keep at least three feet apart. It doesn't look good for Armando to get too close to his ex-wife."
"I'm serious."
Elizabeth emphasized again.
Armando was really upset now.
He put one hand on the door, looked down at her, his eyes full of meaning, "We..."
A beam of light suddenly shone on both of them.
Tobias's electric car had its lights on, and the light happened to shine on Elizabeth's front door.
It happened to shine on them.
Tobias stopped his vehicle. He had good eyesight and saw Elizabeth and Armando at the villa entrance, standing one in front of the other.
It looked a bit like that wall-pin scene from TV shows.
Tobias turned off the lights.
Elizabeth saw Tobias like seeing a savior, finally ready to go back inside.
She pushed Armando aside, "Tobias, you must fix the lock properly this time."
"Let me see what the problem is first."
Tobias walked up to the door carrying his toolbox, glancing at Armando.
Armando was very handsome.
Tobias checked the lock.
"Strange, the lock cylinder is broken. I'll replace it with a new lock for you, no charge."
Elizabeth, "Okay, thanks. How long will it take?"
"Very quick."
Armando saw the lock being removed and glanced at Elizabeth, then turned and went back to the villa next door.
Behind him came the sound of Elizabeth talking with Tobias.
"This lock should be good quality, right?" she said doubtfully.
Tobias's neck turned red, "This time there's definitely no problem. I don't know how you were so unlucky to happen to get a bad lock."
The word unlucky.
Made Elizabeth immediately hold back her critical words.
Wasn't it clearly your lock that had quality issues?
"Tai, Ms. Sutter returned two custom-made dresses for alterations."
Designer Tai's assistant walked into the designer's office holding two gift boxes that had just been air-shipped from Border Ridge City.
"Alterations? What doesn't fit?"
Tai put down his pen and asked.
"The bust needs to be smaller, the waist wider, and one dress needs shoulder width adjustments."
The assistant handed Tai the note with Emma's requirements.
Tai took the note, glanced at the measurements, and frowned slightly, "These measurements differ quite a bit from what Mr. Robinson provided."
At least the bust difference was very obvious.
As a designer, he was very sensitive to clothing measurements and body proportions, and he felt these were measurements for two different people.
Based on Timothy's measurements, that woman should be the full-figured, slim-waisted type.
The assistant added, "Other designers also received dresses returned by Ms. Sutter for alterations. I saw news from Border Ridge City - she probably just had a baby, so her figure changed a bit?"
Tai said nothing. They would do everything possible to meet the client's requirements.
In contrast to Tai's calm attitude was another designer, Bee, who designed rings.
Bee looked angrily at the ring that had been returned for modification, very annoyed at the alteration request.
The ring originally had Timothy and Elizabeth's initials engraved on it, but now Emma wanted them changed.
The more Bee thought about it, the more something seemed off.
Timothy had his accident in Aquilonia, and Emma claimed to be Timothy's lover at the time, so the ring ended up in Emma's hands.
Noble circles could be messy sometimes - perhaps this ring was Timothy's gift to a mistress he kept on the side?
If so, when Timothy came back, he would probably come after them.
Bee made a bold decision.
Bee put away the returned pair of rings and decided to create a new pair of similar-looking rings for Emma.
The Robinson family.
Manuel rarely had time to come home for dinner tonight.
When he had a cold face, his expression was very serious.
Recently, because of Timothy's disappearance, he had become even busier.
After dinner, he put down his utensils and looked at Cecilia, "Cecilia, there's a charity event tomorrow. Take Emma with you."
Although Emma was still recovering, she could occasionally go out.
Cecilia put down her utensils, wiped her red lips, and nodded, "Okay."
Emma was surprised for a moment, then smiled lightly, "Thank you."
Mabel kept her head down, eating while listening to their conversation with perked ears.
Two nannies brought Tommy and Jane over.
Manuel glanced at Tommy and Jane. When dealing with children, his usually stern face softened a bit.
Manuel left the dining table and went upstairs to his study.
In the study, Manuel first handled company matters. After reaching a stopping point, he took a break.
Timothy was Manuel's most prideful son - excellent and smart, but rebellious.
Manuel opened a drawer and took out a document.
He opened the document. Inside was a paternity test result for Tommy and Jane.
Manuel closed the document.
He put it back in the drawer and locked it.
