Chapter 138 Things Remain, People Change
Border Ridge City.
"Breaking news: the next heir of the Robinson Group was attacked by unknown gunfire in Aquilonia, and his fate remains unknown."
"Currently, the Robinson Group has sent people to Aquilonia to search for him."
"It's reported that this next heir already has a lover and a pair of twins."
The reporter stood outside the hospital with a microphone, reporting the news while waiting to interview Timothy's lover, Emma.
There were reporters from other outlets outside the hospital as well.
Emma walked out of the hospital pushing a baby stroller, protected by bodyguards.
The reporters quickly extended their microphones.
"Miss Sutter, is there any news about Mr. Robinson?"
"Sorry, sorry, excuse us."
"Miss Sutter, is the ring on your finger your engagement ring?"
Hearing this question, Emma stopped. Her tear-reddened eyes were hidden behind sunglasses.
She raised her right hand, showing the ring on her middle finger.
"This is a ring he custom-made for me."
Two days ago, several internationally renowned designers contacted her, and only then did she learn that Timothy had already custom-made a ring and a dress.
Though she knew these weren't made for her.
Half a month later.
Silverlight City, hospital.
Elizabeth had been unconscious for two days before waking up.
"You're awake."
Elizabeth turned her head toward the voice.
"Why is it you?"
Her voice was terribly hoarse.
Armando poured a glass of water and tried to help Elizabeth up to give her a drink.
"Don't touch me."
Armando's grip on the glass tightened. He raised the head of the bed.
Elizabeth was really thirsty, so she took the glass and drank.
Those people were terrifying.
She had watched helplessly as they carried people one by one onto the operating table.
Just thinking about it made her teeth chatter with fear.
Armando's deep eyes looked at Elizabeth's pale face. "Sorry it took so long to rescue you."
Jake had really been ruthless.
After drinking the water, Elizabeth looked at Armando with distant eyes. "Can I borrow your phone?"
Armando gave her his phone.
Elizabeth took the phone and quickly dialed Timothy's number.
She'd been missing for so long, Mr. Robinson must be very worried.
Elizabeth leaned against the headboard as the phone rang unanswered.
She frowned and called Joe's number, but no one answered that either.
Strange.
"Are you trying to call Timothy?" Armando spoke up. "You should check the news from half a month ago first."
Elizabeth looked puzzled. "What do you mean?"
Armando took back his phone and searched for news from half a month ago to show Elizabeth.
Elizabeth scrolled through one article after another, all about Timothy.
Her fingers trembled, her chest felt tight.
When she saw a news article about Timothy's lover and children, her pupils contracted sharply as she clicked on it.
Emma.
Emma was wearing a ring on her middle finger.
The news reported that Emma had given birth to twins for Timothy.
Impossible! Mr. Robinson had clearly told her that Emma was pregnant with Erik's child.
What was going on?
Armando explained, "Timothy went missing in Aquilonia, with a high probability of death. The Robinson Group's stock price dropped due to losing the next heir, but now the third generation heir exists."
"Emma's children are not Timothy's children."
Elizabeth said with certainty. She put down the phone and got out of bed, anxious and worried.
Her head suddenly spun.
Armando reached out to steady her. Her wrist was noticeably much thinner. "Where are you going?"
She'd been held captive for half a month, only able to eat a little each day, causing malnutrition.
"To Aquilonia."
Elizabeth closed her eyes. When the dizziness eased, her lips were even paler.
She knew her current physical condition wasn't suitable for going there, and forced herself to calm down.
Seeing Elizabeth sit back on the bed, Armando pressed his thin lips together. "Going there won't help. The Robinson family sent many people to search for Timothy, but they still can't find him. Plus, Aquilonia is currently in turmoil."
Aquilonia had always been chaotic.
Elizabeth didn't respond. She quickly took Armando's phone again and dialed Mabel's number.
Someone finally answered.
"Hello?"
"Mabel, it's me."
Hearing Elizabeth's voice, Mabel smiled with delight.
Seeing Emma looking her way, Mabel suppressed her smile and headed upstairs.
"Wait a moment."
Elizabeth could tell Mabel might not be in a convenient place to talk.
She covered the phone and turned to Armando. "Mr. Johnson, could you step out for a moment?"
Armando glanced at the phone in Elizabeth's hand and nodded. "I'll have Tom buy you a new phone."
"Thank you."
Elizabeth had no cards, no money, not even her house keys.
She needed to get new documents before she could apply for a bank card.
Armando walked out of the hospital room, his eyes thoughtful as he closed the door.
Mabel had just entered her bedroom when she spoke to Elizabeth. "Elizabeth, where have you been all this time?"
Mabel had sent people to look for Elizabeth but couldn't find her.
Mabel had been anxious, not knowing what to do.
"I'm fine now, don't worry. Where are you? Is there any news about Timothy?" As Elizabeth spoke, she had to catch her breath. She was still weak.
"I'm at the Robinson family home." When Mabel saw the news about Timothy's disappearance, she rushed back to Border Ridge City from Silverlight City. "There's still no news about Mr. Robinson, and also..."
Hearing Mabel's unfinished sentence, Elizabeth knew she was going to mention Emma.
"Emma secretly had Mr. Robinson's children." Mabel got angry just looking at those twins. How could Mr. Robinson be that kind of bad man too?
"They're not his. I trust Timothy." Elizabeth believed Timothy wasn't that kind of person. "Has there been a paternity test?"
The current head of the Robinson family, Manuel, shouldn't be that foolish.
For something like this, he should at least do a paternity test first.
Elizabeth suddenly held her forehead. Wait, no—with Timothy missing, a paternity test couldn't be done.
But just as Elizabeth thought this, Mabel lowered her voice on the other end. "Timothy's father publicly acknowledged the twins."
So Mabel really wasn't sure whether the twins were Timothy's children or not.
Elizabeth couldn't figure it out either right now.
But the most important thing now was finding Timothy.
"The day Timothy went abroad, he said he had something to handle. Mabel, do you know what it was?"
"I don't know. I haven't been able to find anything out since I got back."
Mabel sounded disappointed.
She felt like she couldn't help with anything.
At that moment, downstairs at the Robinson family home.
Manuel's second wife, Cecilia Patel—though Cecilia was middle-aged, she was well-maintained and still charming.
Cecilia smiled as she looked at the twins beside Emma. "The boy looks a bit like Timothy, the girl looks like you."
Emma forced a smile. Her face looked haggard from worry about Timothy and lack of rest. "Thank you."
