Chapter 123
Under the soft glow of the candlelight, Alexandra's face looked absolutely stunning.
But Frederick seemed a bit upset, keeping his head down and focusing on his own food.
The atmosphere grew awkward and silent for a while.
Finally, Frederick looked up, staring at Alexandra with a serious expression.
"Do you even care about me at all?"
"Huh?"
Having had some snacks earlier, Alexandra wasn't very hungry, so she was cutting her food into small pieces and eating slowly.
Frederick's sudden question left her puzzled.
She looked up, blinking at him. "What's wrong?"
"Do you think the gift I gave you is ugly?"
Frederick's voice was filled with hurt. "When I gave it to you, you didn't seem to want it. I know, I shouldn't have forced you to accept it. I won't do it again."
"It's beautiful, really. I just thought it was too expensive."
Alexandra felt completely baffled.
"But if you liked it, why aren't you wearing it?"
Frederick still had his head down. "I know my taste as a man isn't as good as you girls, but I called in all the designers from Royal Chic this afternoon to discuss what would suit you best!"
"The one I gave you wasn't the final decision, but I picked it out carefully and put a lot of my own design into it!"
"If you really liked it, you wouldn't just leave it behind!"
Alexandra then realized her wrist was bare.
"Oh, you mean the bracelet you gave me today."
She smiled as she remembered. "I took it off when I washed my hands and must have forgotten to put it back on."
"Is that really something to overthink so much?"
"Really?" Frederick finally looked up, his face showing the vulnerability of a child.
He still seemed unsure of Alexandra's words.
She nodded firmly. "Of course, why would I lie about something like that?"
"As long as you like it!" Frederick finally relaxed. "I was so scared just now, thinking you didn't like it and only accepted it to spare my feelings, then took it off as soon as you got home!"
"If I didn't like it, I wouldn't have accepted it."
Alexandra answered seriously. "I'm very clear about what I like and dislike. No one can force me to accept something I don't like."
"So, you do like the bracelet I gave you?"
Frederick was almost excited, and Alexandra nodded.
"You said you added your own design to it. I didn't realize you were so talented. It's really nice, I do like it."
"That's great! I was worried my design wouldn't meet your standards!"
He was usually a cold and aloof CEO, but now he looked like a child, his emotions plain to see.
"You have good taste, I really do like it."
As Alexandra emphasized again, Frederick bit his lip and asked, "You said you like the bracelet. What about the person who designed it?"
"You mean you?"
"Yes, me. Do you like me?"
Frederick looked at Alexandra with hopeful eyes, waiting for her answer, his whole body tense.
His hands under the table clenched unconsciously.
Alexandra lowered her head, seemingly deep in thought.
Did she like him?
Well, she didn't dislike him. If she didn't dislike him, that probably meant she liked him, right?
At least she might like him.
"I don't know," Alexandra answered honestly, and Frederick looked a bit disappointed. "Okay."
"But, I will like you." Seeing Frederick's crestfallen expression, Alexandra quickly added, "In the future. I will."
"Really?" Those words, though uncertain, made Frederick incredibly excited.
"You mean you're already trying to like me, right?"
"Yes."
Alexandra couldn't look at him, her face turning red.
But just those few words were enough to make Frederick's heart race.
Under the candlelight, their slightly flushed faces revealed their feelings.
The rest of the meal was filled with a mix of emotions.
After dinner, Alexandra suggested going back to the office to get the bracelet.
Frederick, surprised, couldn't help but ask, "Is the bracelet that important to you?"
"Since it's a gift from you and something I like, of course it's important."
Alexandra looked up at him, every word sincere.
As soon as she finished speaking, she noticed the love in Frederick's eyes.
This made Alexandra even more embarrassed, so she lowered her head and mumbled, "I can go get it myself."
"No way. It's dark out, I'll take you."
Frederick wouldn't let Alexandra go back to the office alone.
He wanted to take her home too.
Not only had he promised his grandfather, but he also wanted to spend more time with her.
Every extra minute with her made him happier.
"It's too much trouble." Alexandra wanted to refuse, but Frederick suddenly pulled her into his arms.
"If you're willing to go back to the office just to get the bracelet I gave you, how could I think it's trouble? I see it as a sign of your appreciation."
Seeing Frederick's affectionate look, Alexandra felt a mix of happiness and helplessness.
But in the end, she couldn't resist Frederick's insistence.
"Alright."
She got into Frederick's car, and Nathan drove them to the Windsor Group.
On the way, they exchanged glances, the atmosphere between them incredibly intimate.
Even Nathan, who was with them every day, couldn't figure out when their relationship had progressed so quickly.
Soon, they arrived at the Windsor Group.
As Alexandra was about to get out, she noticed Frederick was coming with her.
She was startled and quickly tried to stop him.
"You don't need to come, I can go by myself!"
"Why?" Everything was fine just now, why was she suddenly refusing him?
Frederick was a bit unhappy, his brows furrowing.
"Are you still afraid I'll embarrass you, afraid others will see me?"
"I am afraid others will see you, but not because you'll embarrass me!"
Alexandra was exasperated.
Frederick, with his status and looks, was one of the most prominent figures in the city.
He was handsome and tall, the kind of man any woman would scream for.
How could he be so insecure?
