Chapter 26
"What are you talking about!"
Aiden frowned, annoyed. "I'm Yara's father after all. Why would I want her dead? Stop throwing dirt on me for everything!"
Although he didn't like Yara much.
But he still needed her shares right now, so how could he make a move so easily?
Victoria asking this question—had she lost her mind?
Always overthinking everything, nowhere near as considerate as Bianca.
Good thing they got divorced; otherwise, who knows what kind of mess she'd cause!
Victoria frowned, feeling confused.
She could hear the firmness and irritation in Aiden's tone, and suddenly remembered the purpose of their call.
Could it really not be him?
But then who could it be?
Someone who knew Yara's identity and also held hostility toward her.
Victoria lowered her eyes as Aiden's impatient voice came through.
"I won't make a move against Yara, so just hand over custody to me, otherwise..."
The voice coming from the phone grated on her nerves.
Victoria frowned and hung up without hesitation.
Finally, some peace and quiet.
She let out a long breath and started thinking about their conversation.
Looks like she needed to go to the police station and ask about the surveillance footage.
Meanwhile, elsewhere.
"Mother went to the hospital again?" Edward took off his jacket and loosened his tie.
His cold eyes swept over with natural authority. "Do we know who she went to see?"
The servant trembled at his gaze, head lowered.
He shook his head nervously, voice very low. "Mrs. Windsor has been going to the hospital frequently lately. She's never mentioned why, and we don't know what she's doing there."
He was telling the truth—he wouldn't dare lie to Edward.
Still with his head down, he suddenly remembered something and spoke carefully, "But every time Mrs. Windsor goes, she brings a bunch of stuff kids like. Maybe she's not going to see Mr. Windsor."
His voice was shaking. After saying this, what little courage he'd mustered instantly vanished.
Edward frowned slightly and after a moment of silence, waved his hand. "Got it."
The servant breathed a huge sigh of relief and quickly turned to leave, as panicked as if someone were chasing him.
Edward didn't notice these details.
He stood tall in a black shirt, which made him look even colder.
What was Rhea doing at the hospital?
Edward lowered his eyes, fingers lightly tapping his leg as a thoughtful look flashing across his face.
Last time he'd asked the attending doctor.
Owen was fine, and there were no problems with his room.
But on the day Rhea made that phone call.
Something else had happened.
He lifted his eyelids, his gaze falling on the phone in the distance, a thought suddenly emerging.
Rhea was hiding something from them.
At the same time, Chase, who had just gotten in his car ready to go home, received a call from Edward.
"Look into room 509." Edward's cold voice came through the phone. "Get me that patient's information."
Chase could tell Edward wasn't in the best mood right now.
He agreed while thinking to himself.
Why was he suddenly investigating the hospital?
Chase started the car, looking thoughtful.
Could something else have happened?
He shook his head and drove forward.
Once he found out that person's identity, he'd know what Mr. Windsor was up to.
Victoria had been running into Rhea quite often lately.
"Yara already has plenty of stuff. You don't need to keep bringing things."
There was some helplessness between her brows, but not the distance there had been at first.
No choice.
The things Rhea had brought during this time had almost filled the entire hospital room. If she didn't stop her, there'd be no place to walk.
And she'd been coming really frequently lately.
Even Yara could act a bit spoiled around Rhea now.
Rhea glanced at the stuff on the floor and said with a smile, "It's fine. Better to have too much than too little. If there really isn't enough room, I'll have someone move it to your house. After all, Yara is so adorable—this is just a small token of my affection. Don't worry about it."
She waved her hand generously, completely missing Victoria's hint.
Although she hadn't confirmed whether Yara was really her granddaughter.
But who wouldn't love such a sweet, adorable child?
Once she got Edward's sample and did the DNA test, they would finally know the truth.
If Yara were their family's child, everyone would be happy.
If not...
Rhea looked at Yara.
Then she'd make Yara her goddaughter!
She refused to believe it.
If she couldn't have a biological granddaughter, couldn't she at least have a goddaughter?
Hearing this, Victoria sighed, but a smile unconsciously curved her lips.
It had been so long since she'd seen a scene like this.
Once the kidney donor issue was resolved, Yara could fully recover.
Thinking this, Victoria suddenly felt hopeful again.
"Yara, Mommy has to go to work now. Will you let Mrs. Windsor keep you company?"
She checked the time, bent down, and said gently, "When work is over, Mommy will come stay with you. You need to listen to the doctor and Mrs. Windsor, okay?"
Yara's bright eyes just stared at her.
Only after she finished speaking did she nod her little head, voice sweet and young. "Don't worry, Mommy. I'll be good. You take care of yourself too. Yara will wait right here for Mommy."
Her eyes were clearly full of reluctance, but she still tried to act relaxed.
Victoria's heart trembled, almost bringing her to tears.
She suppressed the urge, reached out to gently hug Yara, and said with a choked voice, "Okay, Mommy will definitely come back early."
Victoria closed her eyes, steeled herself, stood up, and left without looking back.
She was afraid that if she stayed any longer, she really wouldn't want to leave.
She couldn't bear to see those bright eyes fill with tears.
Only after walking through the office door did Victoria snap out of her earlier emotions.
She glanced inside and saw Faye's figure, a cold smile curving her lips.
Victoria didn't go further in.
She took out her phone and looked at it.
Good, the videos were still there.
What she'd said before about having surveillance on her computer wasn't just to fool Faye.
Victoria put away her phone and went to Xanthe's office.
She raised her hand and knocked gently on the door.
Her pale skin against the dark door created a striking contrast—quite a beautiful sight.
"Come in."
Xanthe saw her push open the door, surprise flashing in her eyes. "What's wrong? Is there something you need?"
Victoria lowered her eyes and nodded slightly.
She pressed her lips together and sighed softly. "Yesterday, I discovered someone had accessed my computer. Some important files inside seem to have been tampered with, and I happen to have surveillance footage, so..."
Victoria's expression showed hesitation and grievance, as if unsure whether she should say more.
She'd actually learned this from Bianca, who knew it would actually work.
While thinking this, she quickly pulled up the video and handed it to Xanthe.
Xanthe frowned, her tone serious. "I'll investigate this matter and make sure to give you a satisfactory result."
To dare do something like this at the Windsor Group.
Did this person not want their job anymore?
She was lost in thought, completely unaware of when Victoria had left.
