God of Death
God of Death
"You're a new face here." His voice came in a deep rumble that had the hair at her neck rising.
Valerie knew that he was behind her and she would be lying if she didn't accept that the man's voice had a shiver running down her spine.
She turned in her seat and her eyes were met by a strong chest covered in a modern black suit, instead of the traditional clothes that everyone else seemed to be wearing here. Slowly, she tilted her head back to look at the stranger's face who had to be at least six and a half feet tall.
She sucked in a shaky breath when she finally met his gaze, realizing that she had never laid eyes on anyone who had looked so alluring and yet, intensely dangerous at the same time.
His inviting, plump lips, curled into a harsh smirk when he saw her clenching her fists, almost as if he was aware that she was trying not to squirm in front of him. The temperature of her body rose by just his eyes searching her face and she didn't know if it was a good thing or not.
He had dark stubble covering his thick jaw and his inky hair was pushed away from his forehead in a sleek way, except for a few strands which grazed his skin.
The man in front of her looked like the Devil Himself. She didn't know why but the way he stood there, so effortlessly beautiful and so gracefully vicious, she found herself having a hard time to breathe.
His pitch black eyes had a glazed over look in them and it was difficult for her to stop herself from getting lost in them, considering how they held the promise of exquisite danger and adventure which would only end in destruction.
He was the personification of shadows.
And she had to dig her nails into her palms to get back to her senses as she cleared her throat briefly before looking back at him, "yes, my mother brought me here to visit for the first time." She answered softly, glad that she at least remembered what he had said in the midst of coming close to drooling over his good looks.
His smirk widened as he placed his hand on the bar top beside them before sliding into a seat in front of her. Even then, he seemed bigger than her.
She noticed the way his suit fit him perfectly, hugging his body and highlighting the muscles of his arms, his chest, his—
She stopped herself before her gaze could move further down and met his eyes again.
"And who would your mother be?" He asked her and she realized that his words had a slur to them, a deep rumble, even to he didn't look drunk to her.
"Mar—" Valerie cleared her throat, reminding herself, "Selene, the Goddess of the Moon." She answered.
He raised an eyebrow at that before a cruel smile appeared on his lips and Valerie had to fidget with the rings on her hands to stop herself from ogling at him.
"I'm afraid that your mother doesn't really like me much." He stated and she furrowed her brows at that.
"Why?" She asked softly.
"Oh, some centuries old feud." He said waving his hand in dismissal, making her eyes widen.
"How old are you?" She blurted, before she could stop herself.
He chuckled and the sound tickled her skin and fell into her ears like a melody. She craved to listen to him laugh, now.
She didn't know what was happening to her.
"Believe it or not, love, I am one of the younger gods here." He answered vaguely.
It was already evident that he was a god. No other regular being could look this sensuous and graceful, but somehow, in Valerie's opinion, all of the other gods paled in comparison to the man sitting in front of her.
"What's your domain?" She asked curiously, feeling drawn towards him on her own accord. She couldn't help but involuntarily lean towards him.
He smirked, "I'm not quite sure that you would like to know the answer to that."
She furrowed her brows, why wouldn't she? What was so bad?
"Try me." She challenged, squaring her shoulders as she placed her elbow on the bar top.
She saw a spike of interest in his eyes, and something else flash in them but it was gone before she could get a clear read on his thoughts.
He leaned in a little closer towards her and she almost shuddered when she inhaled his intoxicating scent of smoke, spice, and fresh snow. It was as if life and death had come together to create the man sitting in front of him.
And then, lowering his voice into a rasp, he said, "I rule death, darling. I am the God of Death."
