Chapter 111 WEDDING.
Chapter 111 WEDDING.
THANE'S POV:
“No, Thane.” Smiling, he added, “As much as I didn’t get to know you, one thing is clear to me. My daughter made a choice. And that choice… is you.”
I froze.
He continued, his warmth and body language filled with excitement. “What I did was a test not to humiliate, but to understand. I needed to see how far you’d go when the world stripped everything away from you. Because the world doesn’t reward love; it tests it. And I had to know if you’d still fight for her when everything told you not to.”
I swallowed hard, emotion burning behind my ribs.
He looked down briefly, then met my eyes again.
“Three weeks isn’t enough time to understand the man who’d brought my daughter home. However, there is one thing I’m certain of.”
“What?” The word came out strangled.
“That Madison is loved. Protected. That you’d fight for her the way she’d fight for you.” His grip on my shoulder tightened. “Obstacles will arise, Thane. Because of her wealth, her title, her birthright. I needed to see how you’d both handle it when someone with power said no.”
The pieces clicked together slowly. “This was a test.”
“The final test.” Liana moved closer, her eyes wet. “To see what lengths you’d go to choosing Madison. To see if she’d truly chosen you when faced with losing everything. And you’ve both proven—” Her voice caught. “You’ve proven that your hearts belong to each other.”
Something in my chest cracked open. “She fought for me.”
“She chose you over a crown.” Kwame’s voice was thick with emotion. “Over riches. Over everything we could offer. Just like you chose her over money, over safety, over the easier path of walking away.”
“I would never—”
“I know that now.” He pulled me into an embrace that nearly crushed my ribs. “Thank you. For being in my daughter’s life when we couldn’t be. For loving her through hell. For bringing our princess home.”
When he released me, I was crying. Actually crying. “Can I see her now? Please, I need to—”
“She’s waiting.” Liana smiled through tears. “Right outside.”
They led me out of the room. Through corridors I barely saw, down staircases I didn’t register. All I could think was Madison Madison Madison—
Then I saw her.
The world stopped. Every sound—footsteps, wind, voices—fell away. It was just her. The woman who’d walked into my chaos and made it feel like peace.
Standing in the palace entrance with Eden and Carter. She was wearing traditional Azuvian attire, blue Ankara that made her glow. Hair wrapped in white gele. When she saw me, her face transformed.
I ran.
Grabbed her, lifted her off her feet, spun her around while she laughed and cried and hit my shoulders.
“Are you alright?” She cupped my face, checking for injuries. “Did they hurt you?”
“Never been better.” I kissed her breathless. “Never. Been. Better.”
“Unless you two want to skip the wedding and go straight to the honeymoon,” Eden called out, laughing, “maybe save that for tomorrow night?”
I pulled back enough to grin at Madison. “As tempting as that offer is, I’d love to see my angel in her wedding dress first.”
“Mom?” I finally looked at Eden properly. “How are you even here?”
“President Kwame sent a private jet to get us.” Eden’s smile was radiant.
I turned to Kwame, who stood with his arm around Liana. “You did that?”
“A wedding gift.” His expression was soft now, all the hardness gone. “A tour of my country for your family. So they can understand where their daughter-in-law comes from. So they can see what she’s inheriting.”
“And so they can celebrate with you tomorrow,” Liana added. “Because family—both the one you’re born into and the one you choose—deserves to witness love winning.”
Madison’s hand found mine, our fingers intertwining like they’d been made to fit together.
“Tomorrow,” I whispered against her hair. “Tomorrow you’re mine forever.”
“I was always yours.” She looked up at me, eyes shining. “Crown or no crown. Wealth or no wealth. Kingdom or no kingdom. I choose you, Thane Slade. I’ll always choose you.”
“And I choose you, Adanna Alade.” I used her birth name deliberately. “Princess. Heir. The woman who’s my entire world.”
Behind us, both sets of parents watched—Eden and Carter, Kwame and Liana—two families that had almost lost their children, now watching them find each other again.
“Come.” Kwame gestured toward the waiting vehicles. “We have a palace to prepare, guests to welcome, and a celebration to make legendary.”
As we walked toward the cars, Madison’s hand tight in mine, I felt something settle in my chest. Peace. Certainty. The bone-deep knowledge that everything—every obstacle, every trial, every moment of pain—had led us here.
To this moment.
To this love.
“Thane?” Madison’s voice was soft as we climbed into the car.
“Yeah, angel?”
“Thank you. For never giving up. For finding them. For loving me enough to fight everyone—even kings—to keep me.”
I pulled her close, breathing in the scent that had become home. “Thank you for being worth fighting for.”
Tomorrow, I’d marry a princess.
But tonight, I held the woman who’d chosen me over a crown.
And that made me the richest man alive.
