Chapter 70 Chapter 70: Asking for Balthazar's Help
The boy’s naive words made it impossible for Selena to stay angry. He was right. Back then, he was just a child, blinded by Amelia. Now that he was sincerely remorseful, she no longer held a grudge about the past, but even so, she had to leave.
"I’ll think about it," Selena said.
For now, she needed to deceive him so that he wouldn’t cling to her. Once she left, his life would soon return to normal.
Sure enough, when Keith heard this, his eyes lit up instantly, and a bright smile spread across his face. He even helped her open the taxi door and watched until the car disappeared before turning away.
Selena returned to Balthazar’s private villa. The house was empty, likely because he was at work, so she started cleaning, cooking, and playing a song on the piano. Afterward, she sat in the living room, lost in thought.
Balthazar watched Selena through the surveillance camera. Seeing her busily working, the corner of his lips curled into a smile. Nearly a year had passed, and she still maintained this habit. He had grown used to her attentiveness. Now that William had been taken down, it seemed she no longer had anything to hold her back. It was time for him to marry her.
Touching the ring in his pocket, a smile crept onto Balthazar’s face, and the happiness on his face was undeniable.
Knock knock knock.
The office door was knocked.
"Come in."
The assistant entered, saying:
"Boss, Miss Amelia has called many times. She says she wants to meet you."
Balthazar shook his head and said he didn’t want to meet her. Since he wanted to marry Selena, he couldn’t be entangled with an ex. He didn’t want her to feel insecure. Besides, there was nothing left to say between him and Amelia—she was no longer the goddess of his heart.
The assistant hesitated for a moment but still spoke:
"Miss Amelia said that if you don’t meet her, she will jump off a building. Right now, she’s on the rooftop of the NK Hotel."
Balthazar frowned, feeling extremely annoyed. He hadn’t expected Amelia to use this tactic to lure him into a meeting.
Even so, out of old feelings, he couldn’t ignore her self-destructive behavior, so he told his assistant:
"Arrange for her to meet me at the café across from the high-rise. Also, find me a quiet spot."
The assistant nodded and left the office.
Balthazar was so frustrated that he couldn’t focus on his work. In the end, he had to pull up the surveillance footage of Selena again to feel somewhat better.
At noon, Balthazar finished his work and headed to the meeting place with Amelia. From afar, he could see that she was completely covered, even her neck hidden. His eyebrows furrowed slightly, but he still approached and sat down across from her.
At that moment, Balthazar noticed that Amelia had covered herself thoroughly—sunglasses, a mask, and a scarf. Though the autumn air was a bit chilly, it wasn’t cold enough to dress like it was winter.
"What do you want to say to me?" Balthazar asked impatiently.
Amelia slightly raised her head and said bitterly:
"The way you talk to me now is no longer as gentle and sweet as it used to be."
Balthazar said nothing, staring at her, waiting for her response.
After a brief silence, Amelia reached out and removed her sunglasses, mask, and scarf, revealing a face swollen and bruised in front of Balthazar.
His pupils contracted slightly, and before he could react, Amelia lunged forward, grabbing his hand and crying out:
"Balthazar, please save me. William is going to kill me. Ever since he was kicked out of Sterling Group, he’s been beating me every day. I can’t take it anymore, so I came to you for help. Today, he said he wants to take me abroad to hide. I’m scared. I’m so afraid I’ll die in a foreign land. Balthazar, please, save me!"
Balthazar looked at Amelia's battered appearance, speechless. Once a beautiful, well-educated woman, the goddess in the hearts of many young men, her face was now bruised and swollen, her eye bags sagging, resembling a woman well past thirty.
Although they had both made it clear that they no longer had any ties, Balthazar couldn't help but feel concerned:
"Domestic violence is illegal. Why didn’t you report him to the police? William no longer has much power, and the Sterling family won’t protect him anymore. Don’t your parents care about you?"
Balthazar remembered how much Amelia's parents adored her. Plus, they were a middle-class family with their own business. How could they let her endure such beatings from her husband?
Amelia lowered her gaze, her hands clenched tightly around her skirt, seething with hatred. If she went to the police now, news of William beating her would spread like wildfire among the wealthy elite. She used to be the mistress of the Sterling family, with a husband wielding great power at Sterling Group. Back then, the rich kids could barely get close enough to curry favor with her, but she looked down on them all, leaving them seething with resentment, unable to do anything.
Now that she had fallen from grace, they were all eagerly waiting to see her humiliated.
As for her parents, yes, they loved her, but they were too used to a life of comfort to live in poverty. That’s why she set her sights on Balthazar. If he came back to her, she’d once again be queen.
With that thought, Amelia slowly lifted her head, tears glistening in her eyes, making her look pitiful as she said:
"I don’t want to burden my parents. William is a madman. He wants to kill me, hu hu..."
Balthazar frowned. Knowing William's temper, he wouldn’t be surprised if he became murderous, especially since he had nothing left to lose.
"What do you want me to do?"
Amelia wasn’t pleased with Balthazar’s calm demeanor. Shouldn’t he be hugging and comforting her?
But then she remembered the vixen Selena standing in her way. Surely, he was already bewitched by her, clouding his judgment and making him forget who he truly loved. Given time, she believed she could make him fall for her again.
