Chapter 41 Chapter 41
Selena wasn’t in a hurry to start her live stream. She got out of bed, tidied herself up, cleaned the room, and then sat down at the piano to treat herself to a soothing melody.
At that moment, Balthazar was sitting in his car, heading to meet Amelia. He turned on the surveillance camera to watch Selena, and after a while, a smile unconsciously curved on his lips. This girl, every movement and gesture she made, somehow lifted his mood in an inexplicable way.
“Boss, we’ve arrived.”
The driver’s voice brought him back, his smile immediately stiffened, and his mood plummeted.
He let out a long sigh. He didn’t know when meeting Amelia had started to feel so unbearable.
Balthazar stepped out of the car and headed straight for the private room he had reserved at the restaurant. As soon as he entered, Amelia was already there waiting for him.
He sat down leisurely and asked, "What do you need to talk to me about?"
Amelia looked at him, her expression twisted uncontrollably, and she smirked, "Why the rush? Afraid your new girlfriend will get jealous if she finds out you’re meeting your ex?"
Balthazar frowned. He hated being interrogated like this, especially since she seemed to forget her own position.
"Let’s get to the point. I know you asked me here because of BrightVerse Entertainment. Yes, I was the one who exposed the scandal involving those streamer artists."
Bang.
Amelia shot up from her seat, the chair falling over with a loud crash.
"So you’re openly admitting you ruined me for that girl? We’ve been together for years, how could you treat me like this?"
Amelia screamed at Balthazar. She couldn’t believe that the man who once loved her so much he could die for her was now betraying her for another woman.
Tears began to fall, Amelia sobbed uncontrollably as she grabbed Balthazar’s hand, continuing to question him, "You told me you still loved me deeply, that you’d stand by my side, so how could you break that promise so easily?"
Looking at the woman before him, Balthazar couldn’t quite understand his feelings. His mood was heavy. If only she were Selena—someone so understanding, who wouldn’t cause him this kind of trouble.
He pulled out a handkerchief and wiped away Amelia’s tears, saying, "Amelia, what we had is over. You’re married now, you can’t just leave your husband for me, can you?"
Amelia shook her head, crying as she spoke, "I had no choice. I was forced into this marriage with William. Once my family’s debts are cleared, I’ll divorce him."
She collapsed into Balthazar’s chest, her arms wrapped tightly around his waist.
"I know you misunderstood me, that’s why you attacked BrightVerse Entertainment. I understand, but that company is my life’s work. At worst, I’ll apologize to that girl."
The mention of Selena immediately reignited Balthazar’s memory of how Amelia had spread false rumors about her. Without another word, he pushed her away, stood up, and coldly said, "This ends here. BrightVerse Entertainment better stop using underhanded tricks to harm others, or I won’t let it slide."
He turned to leave, but Amelia grabbed him from behind, sobbing, "Don’t leave me. Let’s go back to how things used to be. Once my family’s situation is resolved, I’ll come back to you."
Balthazar closed his eyes, weary, and sighed softly.
"What we had ended the moment you returned and got married. If you agree, we can still be friends. If you need help within my abilities, I won’t refuse."
With that, he gently released her hand and walked away.
Amelia stood frozen in the private room for a long time, her hand clenched into a tight fist, her face twisted with anger. If Balthazar saw her like this, whatever remaining affection he had would vanish.
"Selena! Are you some kind of ghost come back to haunt me? A year ago, I couldn’t get rid of you, but this time, I’ll make sure you’re destroyed beyond recovery. Let’s see if you can come back from this."
Sitting in the car, Balthazar’s chest felt heavy, suffocating him. He hadn’t wanted things to come to this, but if he was serious about Selena, he couldn’t afford to be entangled with his past.
But even now, he wasn’t sure if he still had feelings for Amelia. The passionate love of the past and the happiness of the present left him in utter confusion.
"Boss, are we heading back to the office now?" the driver asked.
Balthazar was about to nod but changed his mind. "Drive me to my villa."
…
After finishing her piano piece, Selena started her live stream. A huge crowd immediately flooded in, and the excitement was palpable. Not just streamers, even artists envied her current fame.
"Hello everyone, did you miss me after two days?"
“We missed you! Missed you like crazy, sis.”
“Hu hu... Finally, our goddess has been cleared. It’s all that slow boyfriend’s fault. Why didn’t he clarify earlier?”
“Dump that guy, sis. Marry me instead. I’m rich.”
“That video showed how stunning your body is. Can’t wait to see your face.”
“Who cares about looks? We’re here for Amaryllis’ voice, not her appearance.”
Countless comments flooded Selena’s live stream. Though a few troublemakers tried to stir things up, the moderators quickly dealt with them, leaving the atmosphere cleaner than before the scandal.
By now, Balthazar had arrived home. Reading the comments urging Selena to dump him, his stomach churned. These people had no idea what they were talking about. Where were they when she was nearly forced to quit streaming?
Thinking about it, Balthazar made his way to Selena’s private room. As soon as he opened the door, her sweet, pure voice greeted him.
He had heard her sing countless times, but always through recordings. When he discovered she was Amaryllis, the scandal had already erupted, so he had never heard her sing live.
Now, not only could he hear her live, but he could also see her in person.
Leaning against the doorframe, Balthazar watched Selena as she lost herself in the music.
