Chapter 39
Chapter 39
As soon as the wedding was over Marianne was on the next plane back to Los Angeles. The immense relief she felt when the plane took off made her entire body slouch. She had been on edge since the wedding and her body had become so stiff because of it. For the rest of the time there, she did not speak to Dylan, and after the wedding Vivienne, and actually sent someone to find her so that she could make a toast at the dinner. Marianne had never been more consumed with guilt than at that moment in her life.
Vivienne had thanked her for saving her relationship and wished that Marianne could continue to help them in the future, and yet Marianne slept with her husband. During Marianne’s speech, she said that she was happy that she was able to witness such a lovely relationship flourish into a marriage and that she wished they would last forever and have wonderful children. Everyone knew that she was bullshitting but the speech was nice and so no one thought much about it. And it wasn't like she was the only one to make that speech.
Dylan’s best man had had so much passive aggression in his speech but basically said the same thing she did. But most of Vivienne’s friends just sang into the mic how happy they were for her and went on and on about how Dylan made Vivienne happy and how she made him happy and how they would make great parents. Marianne was not sure if they were the fake friends of Vivienne or not. She knew she dealt with a few in the past but there was definitely more.
Dylan and Vivienne’s honeymoon would be in Greece and Marianne really wanted them to just move there. If she could avoid any contact with them in the future then she would. But Vivienne made it pretty clear that she wanted to continue to have Marianne with them through marriage. It made Marianne tempted to just tell them that they were cured of all serious relationship problems and leave.
Morgan made her want to try again, but then she did the unspeakable and it made her want to run away. If she and Dylan never spoke about it then hopefully over time, their relationship would become less awkward and go back to being professional. Marianne wondered how many years it would take for them to cross back over the line they basically sprinted past.
As soon as Vivienne landed in Los Angeles, she was bombarded by paparazzi. Vivienne and Dylan definitely did not come back that day, but the other celebrities that went to their wedding and her included were coming back that day and so the paparazzi really picked the perfect time to strike.
As per usual, she was hit with a wave of questions about their relationship. Many asked why she let them get married when they had a huge fight so close to the wedding and others wondering what Dylan’s true intentions of marrying Vivienne were. Those were both questions she had the answers to but she did not want to answer them. It would just make her, Dylan and Vivienne look bad.
Thankfully, she was saved by airport security and could safely be escorted to her mother's car without any problems. There, her mother and Jewels were waiting with the most judgemental looks on their faces and she spent the car ride trying to convince them that she realized that she also knew that both should not be together and how she tried her best to try and break them up but no one listened to her. She, of course, did not go into detail as to why and how that would be beneficial to the both of them but she told them that if the both of them stay together they could be their own destruction.
Marianne’s only hope was for them to get better while being in the relationship, but she knew that was near impossible. With Vivienne’s mindset, it would be like Marianne pushing against a wall. Or more like a mountain.
While the couple was on the honeymoon, Marianne called, consulted, planned, and researched all the ways she could try to make it work between them. She wanted them to break up but now, she would feel guilty if they did and she knew that no matter how hard she tried, Vivienne would not sign any divorce papers. Dylan was trapped with her, and so her next plan was to help them through it.
Marianne could sit back and watch them be their own demise but she would then feel like she failed them and so she could not have that on her conscience.
August 27th
Marianne spent the day talking to other professionals she knew about the dynamic of Vivienne and Dylan’s relationship and asking if they knew the best way to try and help in that kind of situation. They had all asked her why she was trying to keep them together and she had to explain that she didn't want to.

"If I were to take Vivienne away from Dylan, then maybe there would be a chance. She definitely would not stay away from him for more than a week though. But... if I can get maybe two weeks out of her then I could do it every few weeks so that she could get used to being away from him, become independent, and then break up with him! No- no... ughh!"
August 29th
"I think I like him. Holy- wait- wait- we only had sex once, where are these heart flutters coming from?!" Marianne rolled around her bed in distress.
She had not left her apartment since she came back, thinking that she would be able to come up with all the answers to her problems if she didn't. But it wasn't going very well.
Marianne sat up from her bed, messily wiping her hair away from her face. It was obvious to her that she was going mad. Why, at the thought of Dylan Carter, did her heart think that it was a good idea to flutter?
"No, no this cannot be happening. I'm not that pathetic."
August 30th
Marianne was that pathetic.
August 31st
Putting aside the fact that the unthinkable happened, Marianne went back to planning out the therapy of the couple and she wondered if she would ever be able to escape from them. Would she have to be helping them out until they grew old? If that was the case then hopefully it would be evident to the both of them that they just didn't work. Marianne knew of some people who had to go to a couple's therapist during many years of their marriage, but if they did then eventually a solution to whatever problem they had would arise soon and they would stop going. But it seemed like Marianne got stuck with the impossible couple.
If she had to stay with them for more than a year then Marianne would leave them. That was what she told herself. Yes, they were paying for her services and paying good money at that, but she could also decline her help to anyone she saw fit.
All of the people she consulted, had told her that her best angle was getting the two of them to break up.
Marianne did not know how long they would be on their honeymoon, but she hoped for more than a month. She needed to prepare herself for when she faced Dylan and hoped that it would not be as clear as day that Marianne was basically oozing guilt.
Shamefully, she had come to realize that the time she spent thinking about Dylan after the kiss, was her thinking about him in a different way than before. Morgan was a good distraction, and she appreciated his company, but she was still unable to stop thinking about Dylan. But then how could all of these feelings appear just after a kiss and a night of sex, it didn't make sense to her. Maybe it was the sex, maybe the same reason why Dylan stayed with Vivienne was the reason she had begun to feel things because he was good at sex.
"So if I find someone better at sex then it would go away." Marianne clapped her hands but then realized that the plan was a bust because she had no one to sleep with and would definitely not go around trying to find someone that gave her a better feeling than that mind-blowing sex she had with Dylan.
And that was how Marianne spent her time before Dylan and Vivienne got back from their honeymoon. She read many articles about their relationship and had spent too much time on Twitter than she should have. But it was all in the name of research for the lost and the hopeless.
