Chapter 31

Chapter 31
Vivienne acted as anyone would suspect. She was hysterical, tears and snot ran down her face. She begged and pleaded and every second of it made his heart squeeze. But he was doing this for them, not only him. It was best if she got out of a relationship and fixed herself before she got back into one. This was what he had told her but it seemed like Vivienne misunderstood it as him getting back with her after her therapy. But he would not be doing that.

But there was something so incredible liberation about finally saying it out loud that he was leaving Vivienne. In his head, he expected to chicken out and not actually go through with it. He had been with Vivienne for so long that it felt strange to go on with her, but he wondered all the things that he would be able to do now that Vivienne was not a part of his life anymore. All the things he refrained from doing because she would be upset about it. Like going to the club or to a bar or just having a pleasant conversation with someone of the opposite sex.

He had taken Vivienne to their room and talked to her. And so after, he left her by herself to calm down. After he talked to her he was on the fence about either talking to Marianne, thanking her for what she did earlier and apologizing for what he had done, or going to the guests and apologizing for wasting their time. If some people wanted to stay then he would not stop them since it was not his money being wasted. It was selfish thought and Dylan did have enough money to not miss anything that was spent but it was technically all Vivienne's fault.

She had rushed the marriage, booked everything without him knowing, and then ruined it in the end. So something should fall on her other than being newly dumped.

Once downstairs he was sure that it was obvious what had happened. Vivienne was wailing and screaming pretty loudly. She sounded almost like someone who had lost a family member. She was quieter now but he was sure she was still crying. The fact that she was crying so loudly made his face burn with embarrassment as he walked back into the hotel, all the eyes on him.

It was completely silent. And he offered everyone a small smile.

"Are you alright?" his best friend and almost best man, Allen asked. He put his hand on Dylan's shoulder.

"Yeah. I'm fine..."

"That must have been difficult. But it's for the best. Don't beat yourself up about it."

Dylan's smile began to tighten. He studied the face of the people present and most of them were looking at him in pity. There were others who looked annoyed or unbothered. He guessed the annoyed people just wanted to be at the wedding for all they could have been offered but now that there was no wedding, they would have to go back with only gossip to share. He was sure that the internet was laughing at Vivienne and making her seem like the bad guy. She was technically the bad guy but he still did not like it when people villainized her.

"Yeah. I think that it was best for her as well. She will get the help she needs and find someone more suited for her in the future." Dylan nodded as if trying to convince himself. Since he was the one who made her go to Marianne in the first place, he wondered if she would go on her own accord.

He made sure to mention to her that she would need to get therapy if she ever wanted the chance to have a normal relationship. A relationship that lasted and one that was healthy. He would say that their relationship "lasted" in a sense because of how long it was but it was nowhere near a healthy one.

"Do you really think that she will be able to handle another relationship, even if she does get therapy? It would still be hard for her." another one of his friends spoke up.

"If she gets the right help then she should be able to. I think that Vivienne is smart enough to know that she needs to put in the work in order to get what she wants."

He felt weird in front of such a large crowd talking about his breakup with Vivienne. When he first came down, the person his eyes automatically tried to find was Marianne but she was not there. It seemed like after she dealt with the girls, it was then her time to leave and go about her business. Since it was her job that brought her all the way to Bali, she could have left as soon as it was done.

"Has anyone seen Ms. Blake, I need to discuss something with her?" he asked.

"Hmm, I saw her go back to her room I think. Or maybe she's in her office. I'm actually not sure."

If she was in her room then he would not bother her but if she was in her office then he would have a chance to tell her everything and apologize. And thankfully, she was in her office. Marianne seemed to have her head in her laptop and was typing away as if she were writing something that was due soon.

"I broke up with Vivienne."

That made her stop and look up at him. "I'm glad that you were able to do it." There was nothing on her expression that told him that she was still upset with what he did. She looked at him normally with the familiar graceful smile that was always on her lips.

"And I'm also really sorry for what I did. I really was not in my right mind and I ended up hurting you."

"It's alright." she nodded. "I understand how you were feeling so I'm not too bothered by it."

Dylan breathed in relief. "I'm glad."

"But Dylan..." her tone changed and she became more serious, Marianne typed something on her laptop before she closed it down, giving him her full attention. "Are you able to walk away now that it has happened? You told Vivienne about your feelings, and now, you actually have to leave. Move on. Can you do that? Because saying it isn't going to be enough. Actions also have to follow."

He rubbed his hands up and down his legs, feeling the oncoming slip of sweat. It was easier to actually tell Vivienne his feelings and everything because when he was heated, over their last argument, he had already declared that he would call everything off. So in his head, although he knew that Vivienne would have probably had hopes for their relationship to fix itself once again, he knew that deep down, she knew that they had reached their end.

"I can. I will. Even if it hurts. I need to. I'll just need to remind myself of all I had to deal with when I was with her, and how badly, I would hurt because of her."

"Do not use the negative as the reason for you leaving the relationship. Every case is different. And although there are a hell of a lot of negatives. You need to know that you are not only leaving because you are unhappy, but because it is also what is best for Vivienne."

But he had used the negative comments of the internet as motivation to get him to leave her.

"I'm so confused." he suddenly said.

Marianne gave him a sad smile as he made his way over to sit on one of the couches. "I hate that I feel like this. I'm so confused. My feelings just keep going back and forth and I'm contradicting myself like there's no tomorrow. I hate being in a relationship with Vivienne, but I love her. She is so suffocating and obsessive. But I want to make it work. Her actions still make my heart move and yet I am so sick of myself for reacting that way."

"So... you haven't made a proper decision then?" she gave him a meaningful look.

The thought of having to go back outside and tell everyone that he changed his mind would honestly just make him lose all his friends immediately. And he would also be giving Vivienne what she wants.

"You need to think about this logically. If you and Vivienne get married. If she has to continue to be in a relationship with you, while she gets therapy, then it will be completely counterproductive. It's like we're taking two steps forwards but also two steps back at the same time. In order to get her to move past her current behavior, the variable that causes the behavior needs to be removed. That's you, Mr. Carter."

"And I hate that I want to fight myself on this. I hate that I want to tell you that we can get through this together. Why? I was so mad at her just a few days ago. What changed? I feel so free because I told her how I felt and yet I feel so bad. Is it because I hurt her? Is it because I am crazy?"

"I think you need more than two days."
