Chapter 102 It's Absolutely Perfect

Chapter 102 It's Absolutely Perfect
The very first boutique they entered on Fifth Avenue was pristine, quiet, and filled with racks of impossibly expensive clothing. But within five seconds of walking through the glass doors, Olive completely stole the show.
While Leona was adjusting Hazel in the soft fabric baby sling against her chest, Olive had managed to wiggle her arm out of the stroller and snatch a pair of oversized, designer toddler sunglasses off a low display table. Before Leona could even gasp an apology to the sales associate, the little girl had shoved the dark frames onto her face. They sat slightly crooked over her button nose, but Olive didn't care. She leaned forward in her stroller, giving every single person she saw a massive, gap-toothed, incredibly proud smile.
"Oh, we are absolutely taking those," Diane declared instantly, her heart completely melting as she handed her black card to the charmed associate before they had even looked at a single dress.
For the rest of the morning, Diane pushed the stroller down the wide, sunlit sidewalks of Manhattan, letting a sunglass-wearing Olive spread pure happiness everywhere they went. The toddler waved like a tiny celebrity at passing pedestrians, doormen, and fellow shoppers.
But for Leona, the most beautiful part of the morning wasn't the shopping—it was the strangers.
Everywhere they went, women would stop on the sidewalk or pause in the aisles of the boutiques to coo over the girls. They would look at Olive's dark curls and bright smile, then look up at Leona.
"Oh, she is the spitting image of you!" an older woman gushed in the second store, lightly touching Leona's arm. Then, noticing the tiny newborn tucked securely against Leona's chest in the sling, the woman's eyes widened. "Oh, bless your soul! How on earth do you do it with two so close together?"
Leona just smiled, a deep, fiercely protective warmth blooming in her chest. Every single time a stranger validated that she was Olive's mother, it added another layer of unbreakable armor around her heart. Let Tiffany's parents try to deny this, she thought. The whole world sees the truth.
By the time they reached the third high-end boutique, Leona was running purely on adrenaline and iced coffee. She was just about to give up and suggest they try another street when she turned a corner and stopped dead in her tracks.
"Diane," Leona breathed, reaching out to grab her mother-in-law's silk sleeve. "Look."
There, displayed perfectly on the racks, was exactly what she had been searching for. It wasn't a stiff, uncomfortable suit or a overly formal gown. It was a beautiful, luxuriously soft olive-green sweater dress. It was elegant but approachable, the rich green color radiating a quiet, undeniable strength.
And right on the rack next to it was the exact same sweater dress, perfectly miniaturized for a toddler.
Leona practically flew to the display. She pulled the adult size and the toddler size off the hangers, her vision coming together perfectly. She quickly found thick, soft white tights to go underneath both, and then spotted the shoe section.
"Ballet slippers," Leona said excitedly, grabbing a pair of supple, olive-green leather flats for herself, and a tiny, matching pair for Olive. "And bows."
She rushed over to the accessory counter, sifting through the velvet and silk until she found two tiny, perfect olive-green hair bows. They were just small enough to clip onto the little curly pigtails sticking up on either side of Olive's head.
Diane walked over, looking at the complete, matching ensemble draped over Leona's arms. The Stark matriarch's eyes gleamed with absolute, ruthless approval.
"Leona, it is absolute perfection," Diane breathed, a slow, proud smile spreading across her face. "You two are going to walk into that courtroom looking like an absolute united front. Now, hand Hazel to me. Go try yours on, and I'll find something for the baby and a suit for myself."
Leona pushed back the heavy velvet curtain of the fitting room and stepped out, walking over to the towering trifold mirror on the main showroom floor.
The olive-green sweater dress fit her beautifully. The rich, earthy tone was striking, and the soft, high-quality knit draped elegantly over her frame. Paired with the crisp white tights and the supple olive leather ballet slippers, the entire ensemble struck the exact balance she was looking for: approachable and warm, yet fiercely, undeniably unified. It didn't look like she was trying too hard; it just looked completely, naturally like them.
She smoothed her hands down the front of the knit fabric and turned to find her mother-in-law.
Across the pristine, quiet space of the boutique, Diane was a total vision. The formidable Stark matriarch was casually browsing a rack of designer silk blouses while expertly wearing the soft fabric infant sling across her chest, keeping a sleeping Hazel perfectly content against her heart.
But it was the tiny, vibrant force of nature right beside Diane that immediately caught Leona's attention.
Olive was sitting up tall in her stroller. She was still proudly rocking the crooked, oversized designer sunglasses they had bought at the first store, looking like a tiny, undercover Manhattan celebrity.
The very second the toddler spotted Leona walking toward them in the green dress, her face broke out into a massive, gap-toothed grin that stretched from ear to ear beneath the dark lenses.
"HI MOMMA!" Olive yelled, her bright, happy voice completely shattering the quiet, exclusive hush of the high-end boutique.
Diane turned around at the shout. Her eyes widened as she took in Leona's outfit. The older woman's hand came up to rest over her heart, a deeply emotional, fiercely proud smile blooming across her perfectly powdered face.
"Oh, Leona," Diane breathed softly, abandoning the silk blouses and stepping closer to her daughter-in-law. "It's perfect. It's absolutely perfect. That judge, those people... they aren't going to be able to look away from you."
Leona looked down at Olive, who was kicking her little feet excitedly against the stroller, and then down at her own dress. A surge of absolute, unshakable confidence flooded her veins, chasing away the last lingering shadows of fear from the court summons.
With Hazel strapped to Diane, Olive cheering in her sunglasses, and the perfect matching armor secured, Leona knew she was ready.
