Chapter 53: In the other minds
Chapter 53: In the other minds
LILAC
Arts of Lykae Magic. Our professor isn't around.
"I know what it was. That creature we saw? It was a Klux!"
If Beryl Caulder would stop her sneaking up on me and trying to be friends, perhaps I would enjoy my day a little bit more. Lies. After recalling that day of the attack, I do not think I would be able to relax because of how real it had felt. I was back there again, and Kael was dying on my hands. And I saw those pair of red eyes, why did I not notice it that day?
"Hey! Human! Are you okay?"
"Can you please quit disturbing me, Caulder!" I snap as I turn to regard her, instantly regretting it when her face falls and she shifts farther away from me.
"Sorry," she mumbles. "I just thought you would want to know about the creature."
I sigh and close my textbook, not like I any of the words were entering my head though. "I'm sorry too," I tell her, finally giving her my full attention. "What did you say about the creature?"
She is quiet, watching me like she is trying to figure out something. "Are you okay?" She asks me.
"I'm fine, Beryl. What were you talking about?"
She looks like she wants to argue but then decides against it, so instead she says: "The creature we saw, it is a Klux."
I am curious, my beef with Beryl Caulder suddenly buried somewhere deep for now. "What is a Klux?"
She sighs and then pulls out her phone, rapping on some things before showing it to me. "According to research, a Klux is a paranormal that feeds on the magic of pure blood Lycans before killing them."
"What?! But what exactly is a pure blood Lycan?"
"A pure blood Lycan is a Lycan whose blood isn't tainted. One whose blood has not been mixed with other races. In human terms, one who isn't biracial."
I pause, pondering on her words. If a Klux only attacked Pure Lycans, then why did he try to attack Kael? Kael was a moon Lykae.
"What are you thinking?" Beryl asks.
"I just..." I stop midway, realizing that Beryl might not know Kael is a moon Lycan. It is funny how I am starting to trust the girl who once made my life a living hell. I only wonder if I'm doing the right thing.
"It's fine if you do not want to tell me, I know you do not trust me that much yet," She says. I say nothing to correct her, instead I ask her what her theory might be.
"A Klux is pretty much like a shifter. He is human but can shift to his Klux form," She starts to explain. I nod, indicating that I'm following her.
"Feeding the souls of Lycan is what a Klux does when he has been caged for over a decade and not allowed to shift, he goes on what might be considered a killing spree and starts to feed to replenish the energy that has been locked up."
"So you think someone locked the Klux up and suddenly released him to murder people?"
"I have not finished explaining. Once the Klux starts feeding on people, he gets stronger and he can even be stronger than a pure blood Lycan or a Pure blood shifter. But the downside of the whole thing is, he would never be able to use this powers himself if he has a master," she concludes.
"Wait, I don't get you. If he has a master?"
"A Klux who has been locked up automatically pledges his life to whoever is the first to release him. And then every power he gains is transferred to that master."
"Wow. That's batshit crazy."
"It is," Beryl agrees.
"Which means, we have to find the master of the Klux?"
Beryl smiles. "I'm always up for an adventure if I know where to start?"
"I know where to start." Both Beryl and I almost fly out of our seats in shock.
"Roman!" I snap at him as he grins at us from where he sat behind. "You've been eavesdropping!"
"You both should know better than discuss something like this in open space," He scolds.
Beryl rolls her eyes. "Whatever, Russo. What did you say about knowing where to start?"
"Impatient much are you now, Caulder. Shouldn't you be reporting this to your Father? After all he is General Commander of the Lyncs."
A sad look crosses Beryl's eyes but it is gone just as fast as it came. "Do you want to help us or not?"
"Whatever. Meet me at Skol in the evening." With that he hops out of his seat and dissapears down the pews of chairs.
Beryl looks at me. "Do you think we can trust him?"
I shake my head with a smile. "I will trust him before I trust you, Beryl Caulder."
She blinks. "Right."

KAEL
Sometimes I like to think myself as invisible, or I wish I was. Carla always talks about the fates, well I know they exist, I just never believed in them. The fates are cruel if you asked me, if they think fucking with people's life was a job to them then yes they are really cruel. Not like they give a damn what I think anyway.
I am in skol. I had left Carla's home very early this morning before any of them woke up, a very hard decision to make if you asked me, because I had woken up to Lilac pressed against me that it was so difficult not to stay and relish in her scent that seemed to envelope the whole of me. I had to leave though, there are some things I need to find out. Maybe after all these I will have as much time as I want with my fated. But for now, I need to work.
The VIP lounge is my destination. I weave in through the familiar paths, neon lights, loud music and sweaty bodies. I make my way to the far back of the club, the place where not everyone knows exist. I enter into the corridor and the push open the first door on my left. The VIP lounge.
It is dark, but I know people are just behind the other door that leads to the main room. I can smell their scents, corrupted and uncorrupted. Lycan are not the only species in here, humans, and even vamps. What are they doing in Skol? Or even in Lycania?
I should go inside, but I do not want to risk anything. I am unprepared for whatever it is that is going on. As I turn to take my leave, I hear footsteps coming out of the room. I immediately lean closer to the wall trying as much as possible to blend with the darkness. I don't know who they are, but I hear their footsteps heading towards the rooftop. I wait till there is a little distance between us, then I follow, silently.
Getting to the rooftop, I finally see who they are and it is funny because how would I have expected to see Lola and the Queen right here in Skol. Crazy.
"The Klux... He has gone rogue!" There is panic in Lola's voice as she speaks and now I am racking my brain because I know I have heard of Klux before, I just do not know where.
"Not for long." Queen Jada says. She is calm just like she always is, but this is not a normal situation because something is seriously wrong here.
"How the hell do you know that?!"
"Do not cuss at me, woman! You asked to help now you are gaining cold feet?!"
"I'm sorry. But you know what I mean. First he tries to kill an half Lykae, and then Lilac which led him to hurting Kael and now he has run off."
Shock first.
And then rage. Raw and riotous
Carla says as a Moon Lycan, anger is my default mode. She says I should never let it consume me, because if not I would go moon mad. I am the kind of Lycan who was never supposed to be born which means I have high tendencies of loosing my mind than any other pure blood Lycan. But the blood pulsing in my veins and thrumming in my ear is so loud that Carla's words seemed to be blocked out.
They tried to kill Lilac. They did not succeed, but they tried to. I knew that day that the attack was meant for her not me. If anything else would piss me off, it is still that they dared to think they could touch my fated. They did not do just that though, because now common sense is making me see what this is about. The Queen and her daughter-in-law has an hand in the murders. Who else is a part of them? And what is this all about?
I stay where I am, blending with the shadows. Silent.
"If you do not have the heart for some little slip ups, how would you be queen when Talon becomes King!" Queen Jada snaps at Lola. I see her face clearly under the moonlight, and her eyes shine with such greed, such malice that I wonder how I have never seen her this way before.
She wants Talon to be King, of course he is the crown Prince. But why would she murder three people just for that? There are a lot of things I have to find out, a lot of secrets that Lycania holds. I just need to stumble on one to unlock the rest. My gaze shifts back to the two women standing a few feet away from me. These two assumed innocent women, and I get that feeling that maybe, just maybe I am a step closer into finding answers.
Only the fates know how much longer it would take.
