Chapter 140 Baby gift competition

Chapter 140 Baby gift competition
Dandelion's pov.

The first month of parenthood was really messy and loud, yet each day was a new day to experience new memories with baby Genora.

I had personally insisted we take care of her ourselves, although we had her nannies and staff. But I didn't want her to grow up the way both I and Alex grew up, I wanted us both to be there for her at all times.

Although she already had Noona who pampered her rotten, then Lilian her godmother who would always be at her beck and call anytime she visited.

Then her three uncles, Tristan, Nick and Xavier, who I think we're in some sort of competition on who got the most gifts.

So far our baby was really loved.

But gosh, there were also the exhausting parts too.

Baby Genora had a habit of waking up dead in the night to cry. Although I found out it was normal for babies, but I don't think I would ever get used to it.

The silence of the house was always shattered at exactly two in the morning by her high-pitched, insistent wail.

I bolted upright in bed as usual, sleep completely fading out of my eyes, my heart hammering against my ribs, but Alexander was already scrambling to his feet, almost tripping over his own pajama pants in his hurry to reach the nursery right beside our bedroom.

"I’ve got her! I’ve got her!" Alex whispered, though he sounded like a man announcing a ticking time bomb.

I followed behind him rubbing my eyes.

He lifted Genora out of the crib with the care one might use for a diamond egg.

For the next hour, the nursery became a mini war zone.

Alex attempted to change her diaper, but he misplaced the fasteners completely, resulting in a leak that soaked his shirt and left him looking defeated.

And all through it she wouldn't stop tugging at anything she could grab, her hands seemed to be made of some sort of steel that anything she grabbed would take years to remove.

I tried to settle her to feed, but she was so energetic and actively kicking about, I knew we wouldn't be getting any sleep tonight.

Finally by 4:00 AM, she had finally drifted into a fitful sleep right in our bed.

Alex and I decided to take Genora to our bed and tuck her in between us, that was when she finally drifted to sleep.

Our eyes were red rimmed from exhaustion.

I couldn't help but look at Alex who was now covered in baby powder and had a stain on his sleeve.

I started to giggle. The sound grew until I was shaking with laughter, and Alex joined in, his voice raspy and soft.

"What have we gotten ourselves into?" I whispered, wiping a tear off from my eye.

Alex rested his head against mine, looking down at the tiny bundle. "It's the best chaos of my life, Angel. Absolutely the best."

And I totally agree with him.

There were moments with our baby that felt so surreal.

One afternoon, while Alex was holding Genora she let out a small, gurgling puff of a smile, not a gas reflex, but a real, wide eyed grin aimed directly at Alex.

Alex had gasped so loudly.

"She's smiling at me!" Alex said, looking like he’d just won a lottery.

I stood in the doorway, crossing my arms with a playful pout. "No fair. I carried her for nine months, and she saves the first smile for her daddy who can’t get the diapers on right?"

Alex laughed deeply, as he tucked a lock of hair behind her ear. "She definitely has good taste."

Meanwhile Willow, had literally become Genora's bodyguard. He spent his days curled in a protective circle at the foot of her crib, his ears twitching at the slightest sound.

If anyone walked into the nursery without I or Alex, Willow would stand and offer a bark that made visitors reconsider their approach.

The family visits were a constant.

Tristan came by nearly every day, still looking at Genora as if she were a fragile porcelain doll he was terrified to break. He brought stacks of bedtime books for when she grows to a toddler, handmade blankets and other cozy presents. He totally adored his niece.

When Xavier and Lilian took their turn babysitting, the result was a disaster, it was just like the first time I and Alex took her home.

They were so busy staring at the baby that they forgot to put the bottle in the warmer.

"Xav," Lilian laughed after a long attempt to calm Genora's burping. "I want one too. She needs a playmate, and I think you’re ready to start being a real dad."

Xavier froze, his face turning a shade of red that matched the roses nearby.

Everyone in the room burst into laughter.

Each time they visited Xavier didn't miss bringing expensive gifts for Genora, he would buy customized jewelries and mini sizes brand bags in her name, even couture.

I was worried he was spending a lot especially since she would outgrow them, but he would insist that it's an investment and we could auction it on her behalf in the future.

And it always made Nicholas red with jealousy, he would arrive the next day with his own gift.

This time around he was carrying a box of baby food so expensive it likely cost more than a flight to Paris.

He spent twenty minutes explaining why the baby needed pureed carrots made by a seven Star chef, despite the fact that Genevieve was only a few weeks old and couldn't eat solid food.

"You're such a green-eye, Nick," I said, though I was smiling.

"I can't let anyone out gift me" he replied, adjusting his silk scarf. "The way to a baby's heart is through her stomach, so baby Genora must have a sophisticated palate."

My Dad Maxwell, also visited as frequently as possible, and when he did he wouldn't stop apologizing for the past even though I've genuinely forgiven him, he would also bring lots of gifts too.

In fact Genora's gift room, was like a store house.

...................

The next morning, my phone rang early. I answered it, immediately Lilian's voice on the other end, bright and full of energy cut through the speaker.

"Dandy, we've finally decided, the wedding is in two weeks," She squealed, her voice brimming with excitement.

"Oh my, you finally decided, congratulations in advance." I said with equal excitement.

"Thank you my love, you know in a way this wouldn't have happened without you. If you hadn't prank called me over to Alex's house back then, we wouldn't have met each other." We both laughed through the call.

"Anyways, I'm going crazy with the choice of flowers, but it’s all set. Dandelion, you’re still the maid of honor. Don't you dare forget."

"I wouldn't miss it for the world," I promised.

I hung up the phone and looked at Alex, who was hovering over the crib, watching their daughter breathe.

"Two weeks until Xavier and Lilian get married," I said with a bright smile.

Alex turned to mr, with a smile, He walked over and pulled me into a hug. "A wedding," he mused. "We finally get to be guests for once."

I laughed, feeling the warmth of his chest against my own. "Hmmm.... We’d better make sure there’s some chaos and fun."

"Oh, don't worry about that," Alex whispered into my hair. "Knowing Nicholas, the wedding will be anything but boring."
