Chapter 133 Got my birthright back
Chapter 133 Got my birthright back
Dandelion.
The very next morning, I stepped out of the glass elevator of the Williams Corporation headquarters.
I wore a white coral designed blazer over my white maternity blouse.
I held my head high as I walked directly into the grand boardroom.
The long mahogany table was surrounded by the company’s wealthy board of directors.
These were the exact same older men and women who had blindly allowed Malcolm to steal over fifty million dollars from the company accounts, My mother's company.
And I'm going to be very strict with them, I will not let them look down on me.
They all stood up immediately, the second I walked into the room.
I sighted my Dad. I gave a quick nod and he did too.
I took my seat at the head of the table.
"Good morning, Mrs. Graham," the lead director greeted nervously, clearing his throat. I gave a slight nod. "We are incredibly grateful you agreed to meet with us."
"Alright, Let us get straight to business," I said folding my hands resting on the polished wood. I didn't want anyone bringing up the past anymore, I just want to move forward.
"Yes, ma'am," the director agreed quickly. He slid a thick, leather-bound contract across the table toward me. "With Malcolm Williams officially removed and currently facing federal charges, the company requires immediate leadership. So the board has taken a unanimous vote. We want to officially offer you the position of Chief Executive Officer."
I looked down at the contract. This company was my mother’s blood, sweat, and tears.
Margaret and Malcolm had stolen it, dragged its name through the mud, and used it to fund their useless lifestyles.
Now, it was finally back in my hands.
"It is my birthright. So I will accept the position," I announced, my voice echoing with authority.
The board members visibly relaxed, letting out collective sighs of relief. While some nodded in agreement.
"But I have a strict condition," I added, raising a single finger to silence the room. "Effective immediately, the name of this company will be officially changed to Genevieve Williams Corporation. We are honoring the true founder of the organization. And the main controlling shares will be legally locked into a blind trust, completely ensuring this company is passed down directly to my child. I do not want what happened before to repeat itself."
Williams was my father's surname and I guess it made people think he was the real founder, which gave Margaret the audacity to fight for it. With my mother's name in the Certificate of incorporation, it will serve as a reminder of who the real owner was, and no one would come in the future to claim it.
The directors looked at each other for a brief second before nodding quickly. Even my Dad didn't object.
"We agree," the lead director confirmed. "It is a unanimous vote."
I nodded and pulled a silver pen from my purse, then signed my name boldly on the dotted line.
They all applauded as I signed the contract.
"My first official act as CEO," I declared, standing up slowly from my chair,
"is launching a new charitable division. A significant portion of our annual profits will be directly donated to charities supporting survivors of domestic violence and emotional abuse. They need to be provided with enough resources to do thorough investigation against any accusations made against them."
"If there's one thing I've learned from this past year of my life, it's that people who go through my past situation, they need all the love and support they can get."
I looked around the large silent boardroom, meeting the eyes of every single man and woman at the table.
"I am not just reclaiming my mother's legacy today....I am redefining it's purpose." I stated firmly.
A slow, steady clapping started at the far end of the table. Within seconds, every single board member in the room was standing on their feet, offering a standing ovation.
I smiled, resting my hand over my tummy.
.................
Later that evening, the Graham Estate was quiet.
I walked into the guest bedroom, I was still staying at, completely exhausted from the long, victorious day at my now company.
I kicked off my shoes and let out a soft sigh, rubbing my aching lower back.
I heard a soft knock against the open doorframe.
I turned around. Alexander stood in the doorway.
He wore a simple black t shirt and blue sweatpants.
He did not step inside my room without permission. He just stood there, his hands shoved deeply into his pockets.
"Do you have a minute, Angel?" Alex asked softly.
"Uhm....yes," I whispered, my heart suddenly beating a little faster in my chest.
He took a slow step into the bedroom.
And I felt my heart beat faster , even though I tried hard to stay calm.
Now that everything was settled, there was still one thing left to settle....
Alex stopped a few feet away from me. He looked deeply into my eyes, and I knew exactly what was about to happen.
"Angel.... don't you think it's time to talk about us?" Alex asked.
"It's been months already, and I really want you to give me a second chance....a chance to rebuild the broken trust between us." He pleaded, I could see and feel the desperation in his voice.
But I don't think I'm ready, if I accept things back just like that, then I would just be pretending to have forgiven him. And I didn't want to make things harder than it already is.
I was quiet for a while, contemplating what to say without being too harsh at the same time I wanted him to understand me.
"Alex I...." God how was I supposed to explain things to him without feeling guilty.
I'm carrying his child after all and it's been months, yet we were
still distant.
Alex sighed.
"It's okay....I should give you more t
ime, I just want you to know that I'm really sorry for everything. And I would do anything.... for your love.
With that he nodded and left.
I felt my throat tighten, with emotions I couldn't explain.
