Chapter 43 His Return
VINCE’S POV:-
Oh, Alyssa.
Mama told me she was throwing tantrums without me, not listening to her and refusing to eat too. She broke her phone in a spur of wrath.
When did she become ‘this’ dependent on me?
Though I won’t lie, I missed her equally, especially when we couldn’t talk.
First of all I would login all her social accounts in her laptop too so we could at least talk whenever I would be away.
“Huff, Finally it’s done,” I relaxed in my seat when I was returning.
The distances were hard for me too, my mind was constantly stuck on her, worried about her wellbeing while praying she wouldn't do something that could infuriate my mother.
Though I was surprised she bore with her tantrums, my mother would have slapped if it was someone else.
“You are smiling, are you happy to return home?” One of my executive, Adam, who accompanied me, asked playfully
“Do I look happy? I think I am more perturbed. I am constantly thinking about your Madam, I hope she is okay.” I smiled worriedly, leaning my head back to relax while rubbing my temples.
Adam chuckled, “I never thought I would find you like this one day,”
“Really?”
“Yes, you are so strict, so disciplined and you know the rumors about you too. Still, look at you, so gentle towards your wife,”
His comment made me serious abruptly, “No, I am not, I am not nearly enough,”
“What do you mean?”
He got confused because to me, all I received was frustration of being unable to help her.
That she had to shed tears first before seeking my help and it was testing me badly.
“People are hurting my wife over and over and I am failing over and over again. It’s disturbing me. I feel weak and outraged," I confessed sincerely, shutting my eyes, praying no troubles follow us anymore.
Enraged, I growled to myself, “I am at my limit. I swear, if anything happens now, if anyone dared to hurt her this time…”
Curling my hand in a rigid fist, I glanced at Adam, enunciating darkly, “I won’t hold back,”
He swallowed hard at my level of sternness. But, he was with me for years, he knew I was resolved and unbreakable towards my aim.
And those who oppose it greet a terrible outcome. My heart wasn’t gentle enough to accept resistance or obstacles.
Upon witnessing my determination, Adam laughed a little.
“I doubt anyone would dare to do this. They would make the biggest mistake of their lives,”
“They better not,”
“Also, any news on Arden?” I asked casually, setting my cufflink, desperately waiting for his arrival.
“No. Not yet.”
“Hmm. For now, let’s hope seeing me would brighten her mood,” I relaxed.
Closing my eyes to take a nap during the flight so I won’t be exhausted with Alyssa.
To lift her mood, I bought the latest phone from her favorite brand. Got her a nice perfume, a stylish bag, a watch and… the list goes on.
Though she told me she only wanted ‘me’, all these days. But, I got a gift for her for each day nonetheless.
14 gifts. In fact, I had to get another baggage just for her.
With a smile of seeing her reaction, I returned home, “I am home,”
“Oh, Vince, you are back?”
Mama gave me a side hug while my eyes searched the one who was yearning for me in these days so badly.
Surprisingly, it was the first thing I asked, “Hmm. Where is Alyssa-”
“Vince-!!” Ah, there she was.
My face glowed when I saw the graceful woman. Unknowingly, my hands left my mother’s shoulder and extended to her as she sprinted down.
“There you are-”
“Vince, you are finally back!”
Before I could chuckle properly, she embraced me desperately. Her hands wrapped around me to never let go, shocking me immensely.
Yes, I was aware she missed me but to this extent was unforeseen. Burying her face in my chest, she whimpered, panting heavily with a strong lock on me.
“Alyssa…?”
Taken back, my gaze cascaded down only to find her sobbing faintly in my chest. A trail of dread I wanted to eradicate lingered again.
Distressed at her hopelessness, I lifted her chin gently, my thumb tracing her jaw to soothe her dismayed form which indirectly pricked me too.
“Are you crying? Did you miss me that much?”
She lifted her teary eyes beautifully, nodding vigorously, “I am so relieved to see you,”
She was resting her hand on my chest, her tears soaking my shirt, declining to part her skin from me.
Ending in a relieved smile, suddenly, her devotion boasted my chest as I hugged her back with the same firm lock, kissing the top of her head.
“Yes, I am home,”
“Welcome home,” She whispered, sniffling to regain her posture.
Still not leaving my side as my hand secured around her shoulder, positioning her near my heart to stay calm.
“Alyssa, it’s alright, child. Let Vince freshen up at least,” Mother laughed, waving her hand.
“It’s alright, Mama,” I smiled, tightening my grip assuringly on her shoulder, whispering sweetly in her ears.
“Let her feel my presence, let her know I am here now,”
I smirked when she smiled sheepishly, holding my lapel, gripping with an astonishing force which crinkled the neatly ironed lapel.
“Okay, okay, go to your room then. Dinner will be served at 6pm-”
My smile faded for a second, pointing out the instant when she tried to run my home according to her timings and demands.
“Mama, I am sorry to interrupt you but this is our home and we both have it by 8 since we return from work by 6. Didn’t you tell her, Alyssa?” I glanced at Alyssa, raising my brows, wondering if she was having dinner or not.
“Oh, she barely had time. She was not going to work either and was in her room all the time. She didn’t care about time, you know,” Mama spoke up hurriedly, gesturing to me to relax.
But, I did not like how it sounded.
Yes, I wanted to save her but help her from her miserable fate but not to the point her functioning would only occur in my presence.
“Why did you suddenly become so detached, Alyssa?” I asked softly, caressing her, my thumb moving in circular motion for her relaxation.
But surprisingly none of it calmed it, she simply lowered her gaze and remained silent.
What happened to her?
I guess Mama was right, she couldn’t stay without me and was overreacting over small things.
Sighing, I let it slide for now and smiled, “Mama, I would like to rest for now. Come, Alyssa,”
Without exchanging further statements, we went straight to our room where I hoped to lift her spirits and stop being so pessimistic.
What's with her?
Everyone was only trying to cheer her up after all…
