Chapter 33 Unbelievable
Vince left for his room. Confounded, I made his tea and entered our room. Vince’s back leaned against the bedframe, engrossed in his phone.
Seeing his nonchalance, I didn’t know if he did this instinctively or actually ordered me. Intrigued, I couldn’t help but to ask.
“Why did you say that?”
“To avoid them asking you questions too. We should discuss beforehand now that we have decided to lie,” He replied casually, taking out his earpods.
“You are the one who lied, accepted the rumours so mightily.” I muttered, kicking the door closed.
“What else was I supposed to do? Watch them disgrace my wife? I am not that degenerated.” He muttered back.
“Yes, yes,”
“And besides, I have my series pending for the past weeks. I am going to end it tonight,”
“You lied for that?”
“Yes. Now, my tea, please,” He grinned sweetly, suiting his features well, extending his hand out.
I couldn’t help but to chuckle at his excitement and placed it on the nightstand.
“Here,”
“Thank you very much.”
“No problem,”
He opened his drawer filled with snacks. I knew he liked junk food, mostly snacks like chips and biscuits, I had seen him munching on them all the time.
Taking out a packet of chocolate chip cookies, he offered, “Take any you want,”
I grabbed a packet of cheetos and sat on the couch, crossing my legs, opening my laptop to get some work done.
During that time, I couldn’t help but to glance at him from time to time.
Setting himself in the perfect position to be all cozy, he plugged in the earpods and started watching excitedly, eyes affixed on the screen.
It was just as rumors say- ‘He would rather stay in his room all day instead of attending parties or social events.’
After being done, I saw Vince had laid down, one hand in holding his phone, the other digging on the big packet of chips, not shifted from his position at all.
I wonder how he kept up with such a toned body like this. I couldn’t help but to sigh, wrap up my things and sleep on the couch.
The moment I laid down and covered myself with the blanket, Vince finally shifted from his stiff state and sat up.
“Mmm?” He swallowed his mouth full of chips first, “What are you doing?”
“Sleeping on the couch?”
“Why? The bed’s big enough. You don’t have to lie on that couch,”
“Are you sure? I don’t want us to be uncomfortable,”
Taken aback at how casual he was about this, I sat up, tilting my head in confusion but he had accepted me as his bride, it wasn’t unsettling to him at all.
“What is there to be uncomfortable about? Are any of us going to sleep naked?” He asked innocently.
“What? No,”
“Then why not? Will you kick me out of bed? Don’t worry, I am not that weak. Come on, it’s fine.”
“But-”
Before I could decline, he placed a pillow between us, creating a wall to ensure my comfort, smiling widely at me.
“Here,”
“Okay, if you say so,”
Forming my lips in a thin line, I sat on my side quietly. My eyes affixed on my laps, heart thumping madly to fathom sharing a bed with him.
I was not mentally prepared to call him my husband, to share a bed with him was unfathomable. Clutching the sheets, I was perturbed.
Uncertain, I glanced over my shoulder.
“Vin–”
Only to see Mister was extremely uncaring and laid back again, facing the wall to continue watching his series.
When he was unbothered, at the edge of his side, curled like a ball with a wall of pillows in between, I doubt I should be nervous.
Shaking my head, I laid down as well, covering myself and surprisingly, a mellow sleep bestowed me.
I forgot how it felt to sleep comfortably. It was so relaxing.
Later, I woke up in the middle of the night to pee. When I returned, I was about to sleep again but heard movements on the other side.
Perplexed, I checked the time first and saw Vince was still awake!
“Vince?”
Frowning when he was being so uncaring, I poked his back, calling him sternly, “Vince,”
Flinching at the unforeseen call, his whole being shivered, panicking, he sat up quickly.
“Huh? What? Do you need something?”
I held my temples to display disappointment.
“Vince, tomorrow is not Sunday. It’s 1Am, put that phone down and go to sleep you have work tomorrow,”
Relaxing eventually that it wasn’t an emergency, he waved his hand, “Yeah, yeah, I will be fine,”
“How many episodes are left? And how long are they?”
“One hour. And three are left,”
My mouth gaped, “Then put it down, you can continue it tomorrow. That’s enough for today,”
“It’s fine, Alyssa,”
“No, it’s not. Give me that phone and have some mercy on your eyes,” I hissed, snatching the earpods away.
Groaning when I scolded, he put his phone back, putting his hands up defensively with discontent.
“Okay, fine. Here you go, I have put it down. Okay?”
“Go to sleep,”
“There. Is it okay, mother?” He muttered.
Like a kid, he pouted and covered himself with the blanket, turning away from me to show he was enraged.
I wouldn't deny, he looked extremely adorable like this but I didn’t want to increase his anger by chuckling so I responded normally.
“Yes,”
“Geez,”
The next morning, I woke up only to find Vince had conquered half of the bed with rapid, deep breaths echoing in the room.
His leg over the pillow, invading my side. Lying on his stomach, mouth opened, his hand was stretched out, deep into slumber.
Even his sleeping position showed his exhaustion yet Sir refused to put his phone down and sleep.
I smiled and covered him with the blanket before getting out and freshening up.
I had breakfast and was getting ready for work until his phone rang.
And with one ring of his alarm, he woke up from his immersive sleep, he woke up with a startle, as if he was scared and turned it off quickly.
His eyes were wide open.
Who does that!? One should have them half-lid until they are back to their senses.
Was it because of undersleeping or his usual way of waking up?
“Good Morning,” I greeted, sitting on the edge of the bed.
“Hmmm,” Hugging the pillow, he buried his face in it, yawning loudly.
“How come you got up at one ring after you slept so late?”
“I am used to it. I often have insomnia, so I couldn't sleep. I can pull an all-nighter and still be fine the next day,” He mumbled.
Rubbing his eyes before getting out of the bed, acting like nothing happened.
“Who wakes up like this? Don’t you want to whine and groan in bed for at least ten minutes?"
“The person who has a lot of work to do,” He replied monotonously, ruffling his hair and went to the bathroom straight without a single whining.
Watching him leave, I couldn’t help but to comment.
“You’re unbelievable.”
