Chapter 31 Dropping Off
ALYSSA’S POV:-
I wonder how many times Vince intends to win my heart by his gallantry, how my heart found relief in having his support.
The way he stood beside me before all was so heartwarming that I ended up holding faith in him even if I tried to resist.
With a never ending smile, I got ready for work and came out of the room only to be called by Mrs. Lysander.
“Oh, Alyssa-”
Hoping she won’t be angry, I flinched and turned to her hesitantly, tugging my hair behind my ear.
“Um, Yes, Mrs. Lysander?”
“What are you doing here?” She asked nonchalantly, pointing at the door.
I shrugged, not getting her point, “Getting ready for work,”
“But why here? Not in you guys room?” Oh.
I forgot about this reasoning. Forming my lips in a thin line, I awkwardly glanced at the door, searching for a reason and started nervously.
“I.. uh.. Vince.. He….” And it clicked me as I said hurriedly, “He takes too long in the bathroom, and I am in a hurry,”
“Oh,” She nodded in understanding, flashing a sweet smile.
I sighed mentally when she was convinced, locking the door so she wouldn't see the mess in it and realize it was actually my room, not a spare one.
“Did you need something, Mrs. Lysander?”
“I am just here to apologize for my earlier behaviour. I was overwhelmed. Plus you slapped my son too… I hope you can get why I was angry,” She said sweetly with a hint of hesitation.
“No, no, it’s alright. Judged by the talks going around and all… I can understand.”
Flashing a reassuring smile, I gestured to her to relax. I expected a much worse reaction, in fact, unbearable humiliation.
But, I could understand her point of view so I didn’t feel bad about it, plus Vince was by my side. What else should I worry about?
“Really?”
“Yes. I hope you are not angry now,”
“Oh no, of course not. I am proud my son is doing what we failed to do.” She grinned.
But, before I could ask her what she meant, Vince came after dressed in his formal but eye-catching office attire, setting his cuffs.
“Let’s go, Alyssa, are you ready?”
My eyes linked with his in admiration, a smile adorning my lips, noticing how broad and supportive his shoulders looked.
It must be nice to lean on them- Wait, what?
“Huh? Yeah, let’s go,”
Shaking my head to let out that unforeseen thought, I bid Mr. and Mrs. Lysander goodbye and left for work with him.
Oh, the world knows about our marriage now.
It must be a hot topic.
And surprisingly, my heart was empty from any perturbations. I wasn’t afraid to accept anymore.
Since Vince had embraced all rumors, I would go along too, even if it feels weird. What could they do about it?
On the way, I exhaled loudly, placing my hand over my heart to relax that this trouble had passed.
“Huff,”
“What happened?” Vince noticed, raising his brows playfully.
“She caught me outside the room and asked what I was doing there. I lied, you take long in the bathroom so I get ready for work there,” I informed him sheepishly, tugging my hair behind my ear.
“I also realized and came immediately. Good thing you covered it up but I guess you have to shift to my room now,” He hummed.
“Hmm, we have no other choice,”
“Anyways, what did Mama say?”
“She apologized. And said she is proud. Just who you failed to save that they are proud of you now?” I asked nonchalantly, checking my makeup when we stopped at the red signal.
Tentative, he glanced from the corner of his eye, a deep grief brimming in his sapphire eyes. The gritting of teeth showing visible frustration.
He was uncertain yet after struggling with himself, he finally decided to tell me whose heartbreak stole his faith in love.
“Lucia…”
“Your sister?”
“Mhm,”
To say I was shocked would be an understatement, among the list of people, she wasn’t anywhere.
That was years ago, their family stopped mentioning her, acting as if she never existed. I thought these people forgot about her.
“Didn’t she die in an accident?” I asked again for confirmation.
Did they lie to the world?
They told everyone she got into a terrible accident and her husband shifted to another country after her death.
“It’s a lie. She committed suicide because her love failed.”
“But, how?-”
“Forget it, it's not important anymore,” He sighed, not comfortable about this topic.
Nodding in understanding and not wanting to force the answer out of him, I smiled.
“But, now I am at peace that you don’t have to face the same outcome,” He breathed out, eyes glimmering with relief.
“Thanks to you,”
Placing my hand over his shoulder, I gave it a gentle squeeze.
Holding faith he would achieve his goal too, we exchanged a sweet look before focusing on the road as he dropped me at my workplace.
“Don’t mind anyone. Just focus on your work.”
“Of course.”
“If our timing matches, I will pick you up. If not, call the driver, okay?” He said sweetly, getting up from his side.
Confused why he got out too, I unlocked my side and before me, he opened the door for me.
My eyes shone at his charming action.
“Thank you,” I whispered, getting out.
“No problem,”
“Uh.. I will see you later then, okay?”
“Okay. Take care. Bye,”
“Bye,”
