Chapter 29 Fighting For Her
VINCE’S POV:-
Rumors spread like rapid-fire, creating an uproar and to worsen the situation, my parents were highly displeased.
Not letting me go to work, they barged inside early in the morning to seek answers.
Groggily standing in the hall, me and Alyssa were still in our night suits. With my arms folded at my chest, I kept a stoic look.
While Alyssa stood slightly behind me, eyes affixed on the ground with transparent distress as Mama burst her rage.
“Please, tell me it’s a lie, Vince, please say these are only rumors,”
I glanced at Alyssa who was right by my side, her hands gripping my shirt for support and I couldn’t help but to sigh.
“Can you not see the answer before you? If it is not obvious enough, let me announce verbally,”
Clearing my throat to regain my dominant posture and not take this matter lightly because if I let her degrade her today.
She would do it again and again.
“No, it’s not, Mama,”
Announcing strictly, my hand shifted and held hers in a firm lock for assurance.
“I have married Alyssa. She is my legally and spiritually my life partner,”
Alyssa was taken aback but soon relaxed, entwining her fingers to signal ‘I am not afraid’ and connected her gaze with mine.
Mama gasped when I confirmed, almost jumping back dramatically as well, clasping her chest to show pain.
“But, why, Vince!? Why of all people, her?!”
“You said marry a girl of your choice, Alyssa is my choice. Why object now?” I shrugged nonchalantly.
“Exactly. Out of many girls out there for you, THIS is what you have chosen?! How low are your standards going to fall!?”
“What’s wrong with Alyssa? Why are you so displeased?”
Displaying visible confusion, I believe we all knew her through connections for years, she had always been a capable woman.
And these were the very people that admired her when she was younger… at least before she fell for Ken.
“Why? Did you forget she SLAPPED you for that loser!”
“Oh–”
“She has no class! No elegance! She doesn’t even deserve to be part of high-society, let alone your life!” Mama snapped, raising her voice.
Her link on my hand tightened, breaths hitching to anticipate Mama’s fury.
“Moreover, she is that loser’s ex wife! A woman used by another man for my king-like son!”
“Lord knows what black magic she must have done on you!”
Certainly against how she openly humiliated my bride before everyone, moreover making her flinch too.
“Okay, that’s enough, Mama. Stop degrading her.”
“What?”
I subconsciously let go of our intertwined hands and stepped forth to hide her behind my shoulder and growled warningly.
“Her past doesn’t matter, her present does and she stands with me as my wife and no one holds the right to yell at her in HER home,”
Maybe Mama forgot the ground of the mansion she stood upon belonged equally to Alyssa as well.
In disbelief that I talked back as I used to be the man who chose silence over argument. But the situation was different too.
I couldn’t stay silent. I wasn’t… undignified.
“How can you say this!? Did you hear, dear?”
“I am seriously amazed… ‘this’ is what you have chosen over Astrid? Do you love her or something, Vince?” Papa exhaled, holding his forehead.
“You heard the rumors,” Scoffing, I folded my arms at my chest.
“So you guys were having an affair!?”
Mama could faint from shock anytime now.
“So?”
“Do you guys not know me? I get what I want, and Alyssa is what I want, what I desire,” I replied calmly, gesturing to Mama to halt her fury as there was no point in it.
“Still-”
“Enough, Mama,”
But, amid the fight, I could notice a certain pair of hazel orbs connected to me innocently.
Maybe at this point, I had become selfish and the way her eyes glowed at me with expectations, with an invisible yet heartwarming smile.
She knew she fell, she knew she was wronged, and was betrayed.
STILL she couldn’t stop herself from NOT admiring me, her trust grew in me.
And this made me so proud, my chest boasted.
Indicating I was getting closer and closer to my aim and for that I was willing to take all the risk.
“Vince, son, please, think about your actions,”
Father tried to say nonchalantly, pointing to at least be careful and not worsen Mama’s state but I had nothing to hide.
“I thought about them thoroughly hence I married her, to save her from that motherfucker. I couldn’t endure watching her being his,” I enunciated sternly.
My features hardened, a darkness surrounded me after a long time. Father reacted and stood beside Mama, holding her, giving me a look- ‘Don’t you dare’ as I hissed in a low, threatening tone.
“So what is your problem? Why are you being so angry? Or do you want me to do something about it?”
“V-Vince, don’t-”
“Or what?”
Before I could lose my composure and do something I might regret, Draven arrived at the last moment and held me back.
“Vince, Vince, I will talk to them, you relax, my brother,” He whispered, coming at the perfect time to handle the mess.
Since I was unable to deal with this type of shit, I lose my temper easily, I even lost it a few times unwillingly with Alyssa too.
But at least it helped her.
“Then make them silent, Draven,” I scowled, breaths hastening, clenching my hands in a furious fist.
“I will, you take a deep breath and…”
He paused, looking behind my shoulder, indicating towards Alyssa.
“And try not to startle your bride. Why don’t you two go back to your room?”
“Why should we? We are the part of the family, we will stand and take part until this conversation ends,”
“But-”
“I did not marry Alyssa to hide her from this world and keep it a secret. I did nothing wrong, I took vows, signed the papers, I am bound to her in all ways,” I remained stubborn, rolling my eyes.
“And I not someone who steps back,”
“But, Vince, look at her, she is scared, think about her,” Draven said as softly as possible, using his uttermost charms to diffuse the heftiness in the situation.
Blinking, I realised my position and spared a glance at Alyssa who was startled when I was almost at my edge.
I swear, I didn’t mean to frighten her, it wasn’t even for her.
Relaxing, I flashed my usual small smile, “Alyssa, you can go back to ‘our’ room if you are frightened, I will take care of this.”
“But-”
“It’s alright, trust me, okay?” Giving her shoulder a pat, I raised my brows, hoping she would trust me.
My heart felt instantly calm when she did.
“Okay….”
Not thinking much, believing me, she ran back to the room.
