Chapter 19 Accused
What. The. Fuck?
I lied or he did? I was insincere or he was? I cheated or he did?
Vince did right by calling him a motherfucker. How dare he control the situation to his favor and place the allegations on me?
“Come again?”
My jaw literally dropped at his comment, blinking at him because for a second it felt like I heard him but no.
That bastard held Sadie closer, kissing her cheek and confirmed his lie like it was some damn reality.
“Of course, if you weren’t such a whore and ran to the next man available, I won’t be able to know that marriage is a sacred bond,”
Rolling my eyes, I couldn’t believe how meticulously he used the situation to his favor and blamed me for leaving.
“Oh, please, stop with your lies, Ken. I didn’t do anything,”
“Don’t try to hide, we all know how Vince came and took you away late at night and you sent divorce papers later.”
“But, that doesn’t mean we have something going on,”
“Why not? Who does this for a stranger?”
When they asked this question, I could feel myself stiffening. I knew I purposefully avoided this question but when they will ask so intently.
I no longer knew how to react.
Exactly. Why?
But, not allowing myself to fall weak, I hissed, “Vince and I have nothing in between,”
“Oh please, Alyssa, everyone knows you guys have something going on in between, you just don’t want to bring it to the public,” Sadie smirked.
“And lord knows for how long,”
Another person added as they all circled around me and I found myself extremely vulnerable.
Their words, their scenarios, everything was distressing me, I was no longer strong enough to confront them.
“I said it’s nothing, stop placing allegations on me!”
My voice broke, accidentally raising my voice, gaining more attention, doubling my heartbeats.
The eyes on me began to suffocate me. Being there all alone, with no one diminished my confidence.
Fidgeting my fingers around my dress, I stepped back with tears filling my eyes.
“Oh, then prove us wrong, that Vince doesn’t meet you secretly at his Uncle’s place, or he is helping you in regaining your position back,”
And I stupidly tried to convince them, “Why would I need anyone’s help in taking what belongs to me?”
“And meeting alone?”
Sniffing when I understood their talks were not going to stop and staying there would only provide them a reason to humiliate me, my steps retreated.
“You know what? Your keep your rumors to your jealous self,”
“You still haven’t justified, Alyssa,” Sadie smirked.
Followed by Ken, “Strangers don’t pay for the compensation of termination but Vince paid yours. What should we call this?”
“Shut up!”
Yelling, impotent to spend a single moment there, I ran away, going back to Vince’s place with a wretched heart.
I went there to check if I was able to handle myself alone but no. My efforts were in vain, my energy drained, my turned hazy.
Back then, I always had support which helped me to be high and mighty which was no longer present.
When I returned, I went straight to my room. Recognizing the clicking sound of heels, Vince came to greet.
Knocking on the door, he pushed the door opened, “So how- And it went horrible,”
He shrugged, watching me take off the jewellery roughly, throwing them on the table, gritting my teeth in frustration.
“I can’t believe what they were saying, right to my damn face,” I growled, turning to him desperately, telling him everything.
“Are these the rumors that are going around in my absence?” I asked sternly, a tear glistening on my cheek, losing grip on myself.
“Hmm,”
He stopped right before me, wiping my tears with his knuckle, reminding me in a soft tone.
“And you were proving them right by hiding. Don’t you want to teach them a lesson?”
I opened my mouth to argue but nothing came out. Biting the inside of my cheek, I shifted my eyes away, holding my elbow in nervousness.
“I do, but,”
“But?”
“They were not wrong about one thing,” I trailed off, unsure if I could ask him or not.
“Which?”
He got intrigued, arching an eyebrow perfectly to know what comment I considered right.
He thought it would be about my weakness, he was proven wrong and I whispered with embarrassment.
“Strangers don’t do this much for a stranger,”
His eyes widened with shock but he professionally covered it up.
Clearing his throat, he consumed a few moments, probably to find a correct answer and whispered back after finding one.
“It’s merely a matter of perspective, Alyssa. I did what I could in order to save you from your absolute demise.”
“Demise…?”
My voice faded in horror because I almost thought about it when Ken shattered my hopes and ruined the dreams we had.
How easily read through me without sharing a single thing.
Taking a step closer, my shoulder tense, hating out realistic it sounded and he pierced my broken heart with the truth.
“You left your family, deserted all the money and gained nothing from Ken too. You were eventually going to end this pathetic life…”
“No-”
He waved his hand, “Oh, please, you tried to jump in front of a vehicle right before my eyes,”
Failing to argue at this point, I merely looked down in shame, having no clarification of my actions. I just gave up on everything.
“And I saved you.”
“Did someone you love faced the same outcome?” I asked immediately, unable to find another other reason.
He nodded, “Hmm and I don’t want to witness it again,”
I didn’t know why but I found relief when he informed me about the reason.
As if a sting had been soothed as I relaxed, giving him an opportunity to ruffle my hair for encouragement.
“So let them create their stupid scenarios, I have made my intentions clear from the start- I want to save you,”
My eyes shone when he smiled at me, “Vince…”
“Hmmm?”
“Thank you,”
He smiled in return and left for his room after lifting my spirits that among all people, I must not disappoint him and regain what I lost by my failed love.
