Chapter 16 The Wedding
ALYSSA’S POV:-
They were engaged, it wasn’t astonishing if she kissed him nor did I feel anything honestly, just a slight sting which I ignored and went to fill my glass of water.
But, seemingly it affected him too much as she came after me nervously, scratching the back of his neck.
“Uhh.. Alyssa, listen,”
“Yes?”
“I am sorry for what happened just now. I forgot Astrid always give me goodbye kiss or else I would have pushed her away-”
“It’s alright,” I remained nonchalant, chugging down the water.
“What?”
“It’s alright. She is your fiancée. She can,”
To my obvious reply, I was about to leave but he blocked my way with clear discontent. Placing his hand on the counter, he leaned forward, hissing in a low tone.
“And that is exactly why this is wrong. She is my fiancée and you are my ‘wife’,”
“But, I am not your lover, I have no emotions to provide you to feel jealousy or heartbreak,”
Giving a logical response, I moved him out of my way.
“That doesn’t give me the right to kiss whoever wants to.”
I went to the room but he followed me, disliking my tone and uncaring demeanor towards the matter.
“It was highly wrong and I am sincerely apologizing, I won’t let her next time,”
“I won’t mind next time too, Vince. It’s alright. Even if you marry her, I won’t stop you. I have stopped expecting anything from anyone,”
Speaking calmly, I was about to enter the room but apparently his composure shattered.
He grasped my elbow roughly out of the blue, yanking me towards him, sending an unnerving shiver down my spine when he growled.
“All because of that motherfucker huh?”
My eyes widened at his unpredictable anger, holding my elbow in a firm grip without realizing that his body was pressed into mine.
My heart skipped a beat glancing at his hand, back to his face, calling him vaguely, “Vince…?”
“Look at yourself, Alyssa, how can you let yourself be destroyed by a damn cheater?”
Nonetheless, he continued, pressing me against the wall, towering over me to block my sight and witness the wrath in his eyes, stiffening my whole being.
“I am saying I am here to help then why are you staying here like a pathetic soul? Doesn’t yor heart burn? Doesn’t it set you ablaze to find him laughing but yourself crying?”
Making a miserable face, a tear pricked in the corner as I couldn’t help but to whisper sorrowfully.
“Even if I bring myself up, what else am I supposed to do? Who is here for me?”
“Am I not?”
And my whole being froze at the question, tilting my head to stare properly into his sapphire gaze.
The stagger made him realize what he spoke and shook him with comprehension to which he let me go instantly and stepped back.
“And besides, why do you need someone? Why aren’t you enough for yourself?”
I hesitated, which enhanced his anger again.
“You are not convinced by me, are you? Then let me show you,”
He disliked me questioning my path and grabbed my wrist, forcing me to go with him. Hardly matching my steps with his, his austerity dried my throat, wondering what took over him.
“Where are you taking me?”
“Just come,”
Not in the mood for answering, he simply took me to a wedding that baffled me but when I saw the bride and groom, an inexplicable amount of heartbreak pumped in me.
“I pronounce you as Husband and Wife. You may now kiss the bride,”
Grinning at each other, Ken and Sadie kissed each other passionately, colliding in their hearts to seal their happy ending while I was staying miserable.
“No, no, no, no-”
Tears began to fill my eyes as I shook my head in denial, retreating my steps to run but Vince didn’t allow me.
“Stay here and witness. Watch them,”
Standing behind me, he gripped my arms firmly, forcing me to witness the gut-wrenching event until it completely shattered me.
The tears I thought had dried my eyes began to spill again and all those years where I offered all of my heart to him flashed, converted to dust.
My devotion, my love, none of it means anything. He married the woman he loved while I stood far miserably.
“You took vows like this too and look what he did to you. He won. You lost,” Vince growled in my ears, reminding me of my vulnerability.
Shutting my eyes, a soft sobbing escaped my lips, shifting to bury my face in his chest, tears soaking his shirt, resenting the sight.
“You, your love, you lost it all and he is happy, he won..”
Leaning his hands down to hold mine, he pressed his lips against her ear, “Is this what you wanted, Alyssa?”
“No…”
My eyes widened in horror when I understood I was only going to destroy my life while they were laughing.
“No, this isn’t what I want, Vince,”
“Then what do you want?”
I glanced at them, a fierce unstoppable flame burning in my chest as all my grief converted into agony and glaring back at Vince.
Gathering my lost strength, I placed my hand over his, accepting his offer.
“I want them to regret toying with me. Help me win, Vince,”
He smirked, darkly, a devilish glimpse I never saw in him before but since I was also blinded by wrath, I gave his hand a squeeze to which he kissed my knuckles.
“With Pleasure,”
