Chapter 24

It was already towards the evening and the sun was getting ready to set, casting its reflection on the ocean. The ocean shone brightly, creating a mesmerising sunset reflection on it.

Luther watched as the waves changed colour from red to orange simultaneously. The view was simply breathtaking. Deciding it was time for him to show up at the Herald’s old Manor, he left his home in his Mayback Exelero.

His car sped through the highways as music was blaring from his car. Soon, he got to the Manor and was allowed entry into the home.

Getting out of his car, he looked around. “Nothing much has changed really.” He thought. A fountain was in the middle of the very huge house giving it a beautiful yet serene look.

Luther proceeded to the door leading to the manor and placed his finger on the fingerprint. Immediately, the huge door opened revealing a very exquisite room. A long golden table can be seen in the middle of the very exquisite room.

It could be safe to call it the dining room. As soon as the door opened, all eyes trailed to his side as he strode into the room.

And as usual, he masked all of his expressions. Dressed in a black tuxedo and a pair of brown expensive shoes, his hair slicked to perfection, and his sunglasses on. He looked simply formidable.

He strolled casually towards the table where everyone was seated. “It seemed I disrupted something.” He said, smiling sarcastically.

“Long time grandpa.” The old man who was also the elder of the family was seated at the front of the table. He was about to take a spoonful of food in his mouth when Luther walked on in.

Instantly, he felt himself losing his appetite. “Don’t mind me. Carry on eating.” He added while proceeding to sit at the far end of the table.

“Unfilial child!” Collins Herald shouted while dropping his spoon on the table loudly. Everyone else flinched at the old man’s outburst but Luther only continued to stare at him without blinking.

Collins Herald is known for his fiery temper so everyone tries their best to not get on his nerves. But not Luther. It could be said he derives so much pleasure in rilling the old man up.

“Father, please be calm.” William Herald said, trying to appease the old man. “Yes father, please don’t be mad at him. He’s here now.” Luther’s mother, Jenner joined her husband to appease the grandfather.

“If only you had brought up your son well to learn how to respect elders!” Collins scolded Jenner aggressively.

“Why drag mother into this? If you must know, she brought me up well. So if you have issues with me, grandfather, I should be the one you’re talking to, not my mom.” Luther said, making everyone gasp in shock.

“You!”

“Luther! You’re overstepping your boundaries.” Lachlan Herald interrupted.

“How so, uncle?” Luther retorted, facing his uncle. “How dare you talk to dad that way? Have you no respect?” Lachlan asked as his veins could be seen popping out in anger.

Out of all his nephews, Lachlan dislikes Luther the most and won’t miss any opportunity to show his dislike towards him.

“Barely a minute after you walked in here, you’ve managed to make everyone lose their appetite with your unwelcomed presence.

“Too bad I've come to stay for a while, uncle. You’ll have to put up with me just for a little while.” He said, smiling sardonically.

Lachlan was about to say more, when his wife touched his hands to stop him from saying anything more.

“Let Luther be.” Jessica said calmly. “After all, he just got here.”

Luther smiled knowingly at his cunning aunt. Everyone thinks she’s the gentle woman she portrays herself to be. But not to Luther. He knows just how pretentious she is. In the real sense, she’s the schemer in the family.

“That’s so kind of you, sweet aunt.” He said sarcastically to which Jessica chose not to respond.

“I apologise to grandpa for any discomfort I might have caused.” Luther said to Collins but continued. “But you see, I'm a very busy man and I can't stay for too long. Can you please address why you gathered everyone here today?”

Collins cleared his throat. Still mad at his grandson for showing up late but decided not to drag matters for too long.

“You seem not to know but we are done with the little party I hosted. As you can see, everyone was preparing to eat when you came in. We all thought you won’t be showing up as usual.”

“But here I am anyway. I showed up as promised even though i’m late.” He replied. “I can see you’ve shown no remorse for your actions. But I have an order to.make.” Collins said, shifting the attention of everyone to himself.

Clearing his throat, “Regardless of what has happened before now, I want everyone to live peacefully from now on so the Herald’s family can become stronger. He paused and looked at everyone’s face to ensure his message was well understood.

After seeing no objection from anyone, he continued “So with that in mind, I want everyone to coexist and help one another from.”

Then he faced Luther, “I know you and your uncles aren’t the best of friends, but we are family, and family helps one another.”

Luther smiled knowingly and said, “Grandpa, cut to the chase and tell me what you want. I’m sure I'm not the only one that finds what you’re saying cringe.”

“Well, what I'm saying is, I need you to hand over the company to Edward. You can go back abroad and Manage the other company there.” Collins finally said.

Jenner gasped in shock. “But father, how can you ask Luther to hand over the company to his cousin?” Jenner asked her father-in- law in disbelief.

“Edward just got back from his training abroad learning under your Son’s company. He’s more than capable to take over the company here.” Collins said with an air of finality.

“Grandfather, you flatter me too much.” Edward said, smiling at collins.

He faced Luther and bowed slightly, “I'll make sure to manage the company well. You can count on me dear cousin.” Edward said, smiling while Jennifer nodded her head in satisfaction. Afterall, her son is about to become the next CEO of Reddit.

“But father… Jenner began to protest but was cut off by Collins again. “Enough!” He snapped.
