Looking around, I smirked. Monster and Angela’s big day had arrived quicker than any of us had thought possible. Hell, most of the club had taken bets that he would come to his senses and kick her bitchy ass to the curb. I was one of the few who had put serious money down on it. And by the looks of it, I was about to be seriously out of pocket.
Because the wedding was definitely going ahead - guests were already in their seats and Monster himself was at the front, looking every bit the nervous groom. Cyber stood grinning like a fool next to him.
The field to the back of the Savage Sons’ clubhouse was full of people chatting as they filed in and took their seats. People had travelled for miles to help Monster celebrate his big day: other chapters of the Sons, some of Angela’s friends and what seemed like half of Gio’s organisation.
It was a who’s who of men who should be behind bars.
Which was kind of apt.
Swivelling in my seat, I let my eyes scan the crowd behind me. I didn’t smile at anyone. There wasn’t much I smiled about anymore. And I sure as hell wasn’t smiling at a damn wedding.
Monster was making a mistake, one that I wanted to warn him about. Tying yourself to a woman, any woman, even a woman you thought you were going to spend your life with, was a mistake.
No matter what she told you, she would rip your heart out and leave you broken.
Or maybe that was just the one I married. Maybe my brothers would live long and happy lives with their old ladies.
Maybe.
I wanted that for them. Or at least I wanted to want it.
Mostly I didn’t want to be there.
She was there somewhere. I had already heard more than one person mention her name before I had even taken my seat.
The name Gretal was always said in hushed tones when I was in earshot. As if hearing her name would send me into a rage. Once upon a time it would have, but I had got over it, mostly. As much as any man could get over his wife riding off and never looking back.
Despite that, she was still my wife. It didn’t matter how long it had been since I had seen her. When Gretal had said I do, when she had sworn to be with me forever, I had taken her at her word. She was mine - forever. She could drop divorce papers through the mail as often as she liked. It wouldn’t make a damn bit of difference to me.
She would remain my wife.
Still, the thought of seeing her again…I wasn’t sure if I was ready for that. It had been years. From all accounts, she was still as hot as she always had been. Some said even hotter and that was what was worrying me the most.
Gretal had always been a beautiful woman, spectacular. What would I do if she had come with a date? Or even worse, if she wanted to hook up with someone after the wedding? How would I cope with that?
Or more importantly how badly would I not cope?
“Hansel?”
The girly voice saying my name brought me back to reality with a bump. I turned back to my date, a woman I had asked to accompany me just so I didn’t seem like a total loser if my wife had turned up with someone else.
It was a childish move but one I couldn’t bring myself to regret.
Saving face in front of the woman who had killed me inside was the only way I was going to be able to get through seeing her again. And if that meant leading on one of the poor women from town then so be it. The sooner the whole ceremony was over and I could drown myself in liquor and wet pussy the better.
“Yeah honey?” Leaning back, I let my arm settle across the back of her chair, trying to act relaxed when I felt anything but. “You doing ok, Gre…?” I froze. I had almost said my wife’s name instead of the girl beside me. Something that hadn’t happened in years.
When Gretal had first left me, it had been her name that I had called out no matter whose pussy or mouth I was filling. But it hadn’t happened in a long time.
Thinking about her, knowing that before the end of the day I would have seen her again, had brought back old habits.
“My name is Louisa.” My date’s face was stony, and I couldn’t blame her for that. I would have been pissed off as well if someone had got my name wrong.
Usually, I would have shrugged it off. But I needed her by my side today. Which meant I had to swallow my pride and apologise. “I know what your name is, Louisa.” I stressed her name while giving her a grin that had been dropping panties since I was a teenager.
It had the desired effect and she smiled back. Her head came down to rest on my shoulder. I stiffened. It was all a little too intimate for me. I didn’t want an old lady; I didn’t even want to date. All I wanted was a hot piece of ass on my arm so my wife wouldn’t think I was still hung up on her.
Bending my head, I curled my fingers around Louisa’s chin. My eyes were glued to hers as I lowered my voice to a whisper.
“As soon as this is over, do you want to get out of here?” I waited whilst she digested my meaning, my smile never slipping.
Unlike her. For just a second she frowned. “You don’t want to go to the party? I’ve heard they are wild.”
Chuckling at her naivete, I shook my head. “We can party with everyone after. I’d like to party with you alone first.” I stroked my finger down her cheek and she shuddered under my touch. She understood perfectly what I meant. And she was tempted. I could see it in the way her cheeks flamed. She bit at her bottom lip, chewing on it like there was a decision to be made and she didn’t know what to do.
“Unless you don’t want to of course?” Cocking my head to the side, I tried to give her my whole attention, but at that moment the music started. People started rising to their feet. With a low groan, I followed suit.
No one had got cold feet then. Both Monster and Angela were going to go through with it.
“Oh wow, she looks amazing, doesn’t she?” Next to me, Louisa sighed happily.
Yes, Angela looked great in her black, lace wedding dress, walking down the makeshift aisle like some kind of gothic princess.
“Yeah, she looks fucking beautiful,” I growled out before I could help myself, but I wasn’t talking about Angela.
I was talking about the beauty I had just spotted a few rows ahead. My wife. How I hadn’t caught a glimpse of her before, I didn’t know. But once I had, I couldn’t look away. Soft, blonde hair that waved over her shoulders, the full-wide lips and her sparkling blue eyes that looked like they were swimming with tears.
She was smiling widely, her teeth perfect and white. I had never seen her look so happy. Not in all the time we had been together. And that hurt. It hurt more than I thought it would.
As if she sensed my eyes on her, her own left the blushing bride in black and locked with mine. Her painted lips opened in a small ‘o’.
I whispered her name like it was life giving oxygen. “Gretal.”
