Chapter 28 Meccha versus Monster
Ursula stepped forward, taking advantage of the moment the monster robot was caught off guard. She drove her fist straight into its head. Another shield instantly appeared over the first one, and Ursula’s punch seemed to get absorbed into it without doing any damage at all.
“What the hell was that?” Red hissed in disbelief.
Red immediately reacted, ordering Ursula to pull back.
“Eitilt!”
Ursula quickly retreated, launching herself upward into the air. The monster robot couldn’t reach her from that distance. Ursula kept firing attack after attack from above, but the shield absorbed every single shot.
Red’s resistance felt completely useless. No matter how hard she tried to destroy the protection around the Tyrannosaurus robot’s head, nothing worked.
Who even knew what kind of shield the AIs had created for a monster like this?
And if they could make shields like this for giant robots, then what about smaller ones in the future?
At this rate, nobody might survive long enough to even reach Minerva.
Inside Ursula, Red kept firing at the exact same point over and over, hoping the shield would eventually crack open.
But every attempt failed.
Sweat soaked her entire body, and her breathing grew uneven as exhaustion caught up with her. Her injured arm throbbed violently now, the numbness turning into unbearable pain.
Meanwhile, Ursula simply circled through the sky, almost like she was reflecting her owner’s desperation.
From a safe distance, the three Metaphysics and Kit could only watch helplessly. Their attacks were useless, too. None of their powers affected the Jurassic-era robot.
Standing at the edge of the forest, the four of them looked increasingly worried. Ursula might have enough power to keep fighting endlessly, but Red was still human.
Eventually, she would run out of energy. And if she kept pushing herself like this, she might die before the monster did.
“Tell that idiot to stop and come up with another strategy!” Yasmin snapped emotionally. “Just because she has a powerful robot doesn’t mean she’s invincible!”
“You wanna walk over there and risk getting ripped apart?” Flame crossed his arms. “Go ahead. I’d love to know if it’s safe.”
Yasmin shot him a glare. “Use your fire, moron.”
“You saw the shield yourself!” Flame shot back, irritation creeping into his voice.
“Besides…” Phi shrugged lazily. “Red’s fighting from the sky. How are we supposed to talk to her? Maybe Sethi can.”
“Leave her alone,” Yasmin warned immediately.
Phi frowned. “Fine.”
Sethi?
Kit looked confused for a second, but she stayed quiet. Instead, she glanced at the three Metaphysics standing around arguing while refusing to help because they thought it would waste their energy.
But Kit couldn’t just stand there anymore.
The last time she hesitated, Call died. She didn’t want to lose Red, too. So she kept staring anxiously at the battle.
Then suddenly—
Ursula crashed down from the sky.
The giant robot immediately tried to kick the Tyrannosaurus, but the creature dodged and swung its tail hard into Ursula’s body instead. Both Red and Ursula slammed into the ground.
“Shit!” Red screamed.
Pain shot through her body the moment the monster’s teeth crushed one of Ursula’s arm systems.
The Tyrannosaurus was far bigger and heavier than Ursula, and it immediately forced her down. Ursula’s body crashed hard against the ground while the giant robot viciously tore into her arm.
Every time the metallic teeth ripped through Ursula’s frame, sparks exploded from the damaged machinery. Ursula stayed defensive, using her nearly destroyed arm to protect her head and chest from further damage.
Then Red noticed something.
“Wood…” she whispered.
Suddenly, everything clicked.
They needed to get away from the monster first.
Red immediately focused and ordered Ursula to fly upward again. Ursula obeyed instantly, shoving the Tyrannosaurus away before launching herself out of reach.
Red quickly scanned the battlefield and sighed in relief after spotting Kit and the others alive in the distance. Then Ursula retreated farther away from the fight.
Everyone watching held their breath in disbelief as Ursula backed off toward another part of the forest.
Kit looked relieved. Yasmin smirked. The others looked disappointed.
The remaining Savage Glory participants started panicking again. If Ursula failed, the Tyrannosaurus would eventually hunt them all down. People immediately began fleeing deeper into the woods.
“I told you she’d give up eventually,” Yasmin said smugly. “Phi, hurry up and take us somewhere safer.”
“But what about Red?” Kit asked frantically. “You’re really just leaving her there?”
“I think she’ll survive,” Yasmin replied casually. “She’s still alive, isn’t she?”
“She broke her arm,” Flame muttered.
Yasmin gave a sarcastic smile. “Not my problem.”
Phi opened a portal. “Come on, let’s go.”
Flame looked at Kit impatiently. “Support Weapon. Move.”
Phi sighed softly. “Yasmin wants us out of here now, Kit. Hurry.”
Kit nodded quickly.
Reluctantly, Kit stepped into Phi’s portal with the others, silently hoping Red would survive. Moments later, the portal closed, taking them far away from the Tyrannosaurus robot.
Meanwhile, not far from there, Ursula flew low over the forest while carrying a massive log torn from one of the shattered trees.
If Call were still here, he probably could’ve explained exactly why the Tyrannosaurus’s shield reacted differently to wood. Everything created by humans—even AI—had a weakness. And apparently, wood was this monster’s.
Red heard the Tyrannosaurus roaring as it charged toward them again.
“Come here, you bastard!” she screamed furiously.
Red ordered Ursula forward at full speed. Without hesitation, Ursula swung the giant log straight into the Tyrannosaurus’s head.
BOOM.
The monster let out a furious roar.
Ursula kept swinging mercilessly, smashing the wood against its head again and again until the log split apart completely.
Then—
The shield device behind the Tyrannosaurus’s left ear cracked loose and fell away. The invisible barrier vanished instantly.
Red smiled coldly despite her trembling body. “No mercy for you now, you filthy monster!”
Ursula immediately began hammering punches into the robot tyrannosaurus’s skull. With every hit, dents started forming across the metal plating.
Still, the monster refused to give up. It lunged forward and opened its massive jaws to bite again.
Ursula ducked.
“Now, Ursula!”
Instantly, Ursula drove a brutal uppercut into the Tyrannosaurus’s jaw, launching the massive creature backward. Then Ursula spun in midair, one palm opening slowly.
A deep mechanical female voice echoed inside the cockpit.
“Ionsaí.”
A sharp whirring sound filled the air as bluish energy gathered into Ursula’s palm. A glowing sphere of plasma formed instantly before firing straight toward the Tyrannosaurus.
BOOM.
The explosion shattered the robot’s head completely.
Red finally let out a shaky breath of relief. Ursula descended slowly to the ground, landing on one knee before opening the compartment in her chest.
Red climbed out weakly, clutching what was most likely a broken arm. She collapsed against Ursula’s leg while staring silently at the destroyed Tyrannosaurus.
Then her eyes landed on something nearby. A gun, covered in dirt and grass. Red immediately recognized it.
Dragging her exhausted body across the ground, she forced herself toward it. Her trembling hand picked up the weapon and pulled it tightly against her chest.
Tears streamed down her face. Then Red finally broke down sobbing.
“Call… we did it.”
