This discovery made me very uneasy. I turned to Amelia beside me and whispered, "Have you noticed that it seems like all the missing ones are young girls?"
Amelia nodded slightly, a hint of confusion in her eyes. "If even the surveillance cameras didn't capture how they disappeared, then it might not be related to human trafficking."
If it was not man-made, then it coulf only be...
I turned my gaze to Howard, my eyes filled with anticipation. "We've been in Whispering Willow Village for so long. Have you noticed anything unusual?"
Howard had special abilities. If there was something wrong with Whispering Willow Village, he could have sensed it as soon as he arrived.
Howard pondered for a moment, then shook his head. "Not yet."
This left me a bit puzzled. Could it have been that the thing only came out at night? Was it hidden so well during the day that even Howard couldn't detect it?
"Do you think they're still alive?" I asked, not really expecting a hopeful answer
After all, they've been missing for two months. If they were really still alive, how could there be no news at all?
In these two months, there had been no clues, no witnesses, no distress signals, as if they had just vanished into thin air.
The possibility of them being dead was greater than being alive.
They disappeared in Whispering Willow Village, so the most likely scenario is that they are still in Whispering Willow Village, just unable to speak.
Seeing our serious expressions, the villagers began to whisper among themselves, spreading rumors about the disappearances. Some claimed they saw blurry figures wandering around at night, others said they heard distant, low cries, each story more fantastical than the last.
I couldn't help but feel a bit scared.
Wesley spoke softly. "The book says that ordinary ghosts can't get close to people, only Demons can kill. But Whispering Willow Village is so peaceful, it's impossible for a Demon to be here, killing so many people without anyone noticing. Whispering Willow Village has a great environment, it just doesn't seem possible for anything evil to be lurking around."
"Then what could it be?" I couldn't help but hesitate.
Howard pursed his lips. "What exactly is it? We'll have to wait until tonight to find out."
Amelia suddenly asked, "Jeremy, can you take us for a walk around Whispering Willow Village after dinner?"
"Of course."
Knowing the situation, I lost my appetite.
"Someone's coming."
"And she's carrying a suitcase. Is she here for a vacation?"
"With everything going on in Whispering Willow Village, who would come for a vacation?"
The villagers behind us suddenly started discussing, and following their pointed fingers, we looked up and saw a familiar figure.
"Isn't that Luna?" I frowned. Why would she be here?
As we spoke, Luna had already approached us.
She glanced at Howard, a look of crazed admiration in her eyes, then said to Jeremy, "Who's in charge here? I want to stay at the inn."
Jeremy didn't expect that with the current situation in Whispering Willow Village, someone would still dare to come for a vacation.
"Miss, Whispering Willow Village is not accepting guests right now. Maybe you can come back another day?" He spoke gently to ensure the safety of the visitors.
"Are you crazy to turn down money?" Luna arrogantly pulled out a few dollar bills and slapped them on the table.
"I want to stay now, immediately."
I admired her boldness, chasing Howard all the way here.
Jeremy looked at us, and seeing that we had no objections, he reluctantly agreed.
"Howard." Luna's expression softened to one of extreme gentleness when facing Howard, clearly having forgotten what happened a few days ago.
Jeremy didn't expect that we actually knew her. "Is she with you?"
"No." I denied without thinking.
I didn't want to have any connection with her.
Luna glared at me. "I don't know her either. I'm with him."
She pointed at Howard, her eyes filled with admiration. "Get me a room next to his."
Howard gave her a cold look. "I want to stay with her."
Howard pointed at me with his slender fingers.
Everyone's eyes turned to me, like they were watching a drama unfold.
I could feel that they were probably starting to speculate about the relationship between the three of us.
I looked a bit upset.
Why did Howard have to bring me into this right now?
"No, I won't allow you to stay together." Luna shouted, her face contorted with dissatisfaction.
"I stay with my girlfriend. What right do you have to interfere?" Howard gave her a cold look.
Luna's expression stiffened.
Seeing this, the people around immediately started whispering.
"It's a love triangle. I told you, handsome men can't be trusted. See, I was right."
"I think that girl is the one clinging to him. Didn't he already say he has a girlfriend?"
"Young people's relationships are so messy these days..."
The looks from the people around almost made me want to dig a hole and hide. I pinched Howard's arm and glared at him. "Who wants to sleep with you? I'm staying with Amelia tonight. You caused this mess, so you deal with it. I don't want to be embarrassed with you."
With that, I put down my fork and left without caring about his reaction.
Amelia looked at us, quickly put down her fork, and followed me out.
Howard also lost his appetite, silently putting down his fork. "Jeremy, take us for a walk around Whispering Willow Village."
"Alright." Jeremy replied, and he seemed to always have this inexplicable reverence for Howard.
Jeremy led us on a walk through the village.
Whispering Willow Village, worthy of being a tourist spot, had beautiful scenery everywhere. We walked around but didn't find anything unusual.
Howard suddenly spoke up. "Jeremy, did you have a priest bless this village?"
Jeremy nodded. "Yes, when we were building the resort, we invited a priest to pray for good fortune."
Older folks were very superstitious. They always got someone to check things out before doing anything.
"What did the priest say?" I immediately asked.
Jeremy shook his head, thinking. "He didn't say much. Just mentioned that Whispering Willow Village has a good environment, and we could build anywhere, except for one special place."
"Which place?" Amelia frowned.
"It's a well in Whispering Willow Village. The priest told us not to touch it, so when we built the resort, we left that well alone."
Wesley spoke coldly. "If you trust him so much, why didn't you go to him when something happened in the village?"
He hit the nail on the head. We all wanted to know, if they trusted the priest so much, why did they go to Aiden instead?
