I was rooted to the spot, completely stunned. Just as the sharp knife was only a few inches away from my eyes, the person on me suddenly flew off.
When Amelia helped me up, I was still a bit dazed. "Karena, are you okay?" She waved her hand in front of me, and I came to my senses, hugging her tightly and bursting into tears.
Never in my life have I experienced anything like this. To say I wasn't scared would be a lie. I had never thought Luna could be so crazy. She just tried to kill me.
Seeing me sobbing uncontrollably, Howard's eyes flashed with barely contained fury. He muttered under his breath, "You're asking for it!" A swirl of black smoke gathered in his hand as he raised it, ready to hurl it at Luna, who was struggling to get up from the ground.
Sensing his murderous intent, Aiden immediately stood in front of Luna. "Mr. Smith, calm down. You can't kill her!"
Howard's voice was icy. "Get out of the way, or I'll kill you too."
At this point, I couldn't afford to cry anymore. I quickly got up from the ground. "Howard, please don't kill Aiden; he's my teacher."
'Howard really has no respect for his elders. Even if Aiden isn't his teacher, he's still older than him, right? Well, maybe not; it's hard to tell who's older. But at least from appearances, he should show Aiden some respect.' I thought.
Hearing my words, Howard frowned and gave me a cold look. Seeing my firm attitude, he was reluctant but eventually gave up.
Aiden glanced at me. I seemed to see appreciation in his eyes.
John immediately stepped forward to help Luna up, his eyes filled with fear as he looked at Howard. It was his first time facing Howard's wrath, and he hadn't expected it to be so terrifying. Thinking back to how he had recklessly threatened Howard earlier, he couldn't help but feel lucky to be alive.
Having failed to kill me, Luna was still dissatisfied. "Dad, you have to help me; you said you would help me win over him."
John didn't expect Luna to be so stubborn even now and angrily scolded her. "It seems I've spoiled you too much. How dare you do such a thing? Do you have a death wish?" Although he had indeed spoiled Luna, he never thought she would dare to kill someone.
"If Howard doesn't marry me, I'd rather die, and I'll take someone down with me." Luna shouted stubbornly. With that, a crisp slap sounded.
We all looked at John in shock. Seeing Luna's spoiled demeanor, it was clear she had been pampered a lot. Now John was actually willing to discipline her, with was beyond our expectation.
"You hit me!" Luna looked at John in disbelief. She never thought her always-loving dad would hit her over something so trivial.
"You're willing to die for a man? Do you even see me as your father? I've raised you all these years, and it seems I was wrong." After saying this, John stood up and instructed the bodyguards to take Luna upstairs and lock her up. Since she had suicidal tendencies, he reminded the bodyguards to be especially careful.
After disciplining Luna, John finally looked at us. "I'm really sorry, everyone, for making a fool of myself in front of you."
Aiden smiled. "I understand. Mr. Bailey, I know you love your daughter very much, but sometimes too much love isn't good. She needs to be educated when necessary."
John nodded guiltily. "I spoiled her too much before, which led to her lawless behavior. I'll make sure to educate her properly in the future."
I found it hard to believe John could say such things. After all, he had always seemed to spoil Luna. Maybe he was just putting on a show because Howard was hard to deal with. But anyway, the matter was resolved satisfactorily. As for how John would educate Luna in the future, that was no longer my concern.
When I got home, I immediately called my family. This time, Saskia's voice was no longer filled with sorrow. "Karena, tell me, who have you met out there? What exactly happened?" If it weren't for this incident, she might still be in the dark.
"Mom, if I told you that some strange supernatural events have happened around me, would you be surprised?" I hadn't figured out how to explain this to Saskia. If Howard weren't standing right in front of me, I might never believe the world could be so fantastical.
"I believe you." I didn't expect Saskia to agree so quickly. After a moment of surprise, I couldn't help but ask, "Mom, aren't you accepting this a bit too fast? I haven't even told you what it is yet, and you're already saying you believe me."
"Last time when your grandma was sick, she got better as soon as you came back? She said someone was protecting you, but we didn't believe her. Now we really do." Saskia replied calmly.
"Grandma?" I asked in disbelief.
"Yes, your grandma said she saw a tall man always following you, but we thought she was still sick and talking nonsense. We didn't expect it to be true." Saskia explained.
'So Grandma could see Howard. Why didn't she tell me before? I confided in her and talked so much about Howard, but she knew and didn't tell me.' With this thought, I asked, "Mom, is Grandma home?"
"She's in her room. I'll call her for you." After about a minute, the voice on the other end of the phone changed to Mira's. "Karena, your mom said you missed me and wanted to talk."
Hearing Mira's cheerful voice, I quickly asked, "Grandma, can you see Howard?"
"Did your mom tell you?" Mira asked.
"Yes," I replied.
"Are you talking about the man who was always with you when you came home last time?" Mira didn't seem surprised.
"You really saw him. Why didn't you tell me before?" I asked.
Mira's calm voice came through. "Sometimes it's better to pretend I don't know. By the way, is Howard treating you well? Karena, he's a debt from your grandpa. Now it's up to you to repay it. I know it's hard for you, but don't worry, he won't hurt you."
Mira had said this more than once. Last time she had told me to accept him, and this time she said the same.
"Grandma, are you hiding something from me?" I asked, thinking if Mira could see Howard, it meant she wasn't an ordinary person either.
"What could I be hiding from you? Don't overthink it. I saw Howard last time, and he's quite handsome. You're not losing out. When I first met your grandpa, it was because he was handsome. Although he was poor, at least he was easy on the eyes." Seeing her start to ramble, I helplessly hung up the phone.
