"I'm going to find Howard." After saying that, I turned around to run, but Wesley grabbed me. "Even if you go to him now, you can't do anything about this."
I stubbornly shook off his hand. "Even if I can't help, I'd rather go than just sit around here twiddling my thumbs."
Ignoring Wesley's strange expression, I ran out of the classroom.
But I still couldn't see Howard, stopped at the stairs after running out of the building.
A young man in a dark suit, wearing gold-rimmed glasses, and with an elegant demeanor smiled at me and said politely, "Ms. Johnson, hello."
I took a cautious step back, and several people around me looked over.
"Who are you?" I didn't recognize the person in front of me at all.
Seeming to sense my wariness, the man extended his hand in a gentlemanly manner, smiling as he said, "Ms. Johnson, let me introduce myself. I am Robert Davis, a lawyer hired by Mr. Bailey."
Hearing Luna's name, a bad feeling surged in my heart. "I don't know what happened with Luna's suicide. You've got the wrong person."
'I just had a little argument with Luna yesterday, and now she hired a lawyer and committed suicide, making such a big deal out of it. Does the Bailey family want to hold me responsible?' I wondered.
Robert remained calm, speaking slowly and steadily, which was quite oppressive for me, "Ms. Johnson, hold your horses. The truth will come out once we get to the bottom of it. I'm not here for that anyway."
I couldn't help but feel puzzled. "Then why are you here to see me?"
"Mr. Bailey is in the car right now. He has something he wants to say to you. Please come with me." Robert said.
Although I believed Luna's suicide had nothing to do with me, if her father came looking for me, he must want to hold me accountable. Without anyone to protect me, I wouldn't go see him alone; I'm not that foolish.
"Sorry, I have something important to do right now. I can't go with you." I refused.
As a lawyer, Robert saw through my thoughts immediately and said gently, "Ms. Johnson, don't worry. Mr. Bailey just wants to have a word with you, he's not gonna bite."
Feeling he was being a bit pushy, I said with a stern face, "I really can't make it right now. Could you do me a favor and let him know?"
With that, I lifted my foot to leave, but Robert's words ensnared me. "Ms. Johnson, are you going to find Mr. Smith?"
I stopped in my tracks and looked at him with a few nervous glances. "What do you want? This has nothing to do with Howard."
Robert smiled slightly. "Ms. Johnson, you're overreacting. We just have a few words we want to say to you in person. If you go, it will make things much easier for Mr. Smith."
I knew he was indirectly threatening me, but I had no choice but to agree. Howard's situation depended on whether Luna's parents decided to pursue it.
Thinking of this, I made a decision and looked up at him. "Fine, I'll go with you, but you have to promise not to trouble Howard anymore."
Robert smiled and said softly, "Ms. Johnson is a a sharp cookie."
I didn't feel happy at all about his compliment, just thinking these rich people were so annoying, always using their power to oppress others.
I followed Robert to the school gate and stopped in front of a black luxury car. Robert raised his hand and knocked on the window. "Mr. Bailey, Ms. Johnson is here."
The rear window rolled down, revealing a man in his forties with a tense face. He wore gold-rimmed glasses, and his expression was serious, exuding a composed, mature, and steady demeanor.
"I'm John Bailey, Luna's father." The man spoke with a slightly oppressive tone.
I'd heard before that Luna's family was something else, but seeing her father, I finally understood just how extraordinary they were. Luna carried herself with the kind of poise that came from being raised in luxury.
"Mr. Bailey, Mr. Davis promised me that if I agreed to see you, you would leave Howard alone."
John nodded. "I don't intend to target him."
'He doesn't want to target him, so does he want to target me? But I'm just a powerless student, with nothing he could possibly want from me.' I thought.
"Since you're here, let's cut to the chase. My daughter has her eye on your boyfriend, and I hope you can step aside and let her have him." John said casually.
Hearing this, I was shocked.
"Mr. Bailey, it takes two to tango in love. My boyfriend clearly isn't into your daughter. Even if you force them together, they'll never be happy." Besides, Howard wasn't someone who could be easily manipulated.
"That's not something you need to worry about. I'll talk to him. The main thing is, you need to step aside and leave him." John spoke with an air of superiority, just like Luna; they really came from the same family, with the same condescending tone.
Out of anger, I lost the little bit of fear I had at the beginning. "Sorry, Mr. Bailey, I really can't do that. Unless Howard agrees himself, I can't leave him even if I wanted to." Not wanting to waste words with him, I turned to leave after speaking.
"I know you're together because of a contract, right?" John's words stopped me in my tracks.
I looked at him in disbelief, wondering, 'How does he know about this? Who is he? Has he investigated me before coming to see me and found out about my relationship with Howard. But Howard isn't an ordinary person either. How does he find out?'
"Don't be surprised. There's nothing I can't find out if I want to. Just tell me if you're willing to leave Howard and live a normal life." John spoke.
I opened my mouth, but before I could speak, a cold male voice interrupted. "She is unwilling!"
Hearing Howard's voice, I looked up at him in surprise. "Why are you here? Are you okay?"
Howard didn't speak. He just pulled me behind him and stared coldly at John. "Even if she's willing, I'm not."
