I sat up suddenly, my eyes lingering on Howard. "Are you sure Professor Scott will be okay? Pearl seems to have a strong desire for revenge, wanting to kill everyone in the world."
Howard snorted softly, pulling me into his arms and casually smoothing my hair. "She'd have to get close to Professor Scott first before killing him."
"Is Professor Scott really that powerful?" I asked.
"Shouldn't you know him better than I do? To me, he's just a character in a script." Howard said.
In fact, I had only met Brian a few times. My impression of him was that of a refined and elegant middle-aged man. Although he was a bit older, he wasn't creepy at all. No onw would have thought someone like him could be so ruthless.
"Alright, why are you so concerned about him? And why were you with that guy again today?" Howard pouted.
I was stunned for a moment, staring at him blankly. It took me a while to realize who he was referring to. "Yeah, we ran into each other. Did you notice he was hiding in the shadows watching us for a long time?"
Howard's deep blue eyes flickered slightly. "Really? I didn't notice."
Even Howard didn't notice, so Wesley must be more capable than I thought.
"Not only that, but he also saw you seal Sophia at The Brown Villa." After realizing Howard meant no harm to me, I told him everything Wesley had told me before.
"It's okay." Howard's tone was indifferent as he lowered his head and gently bit my neck.
Sensing his intention, I shivered and instinctively struggled before I could even cry out in pain. "What are you doing? You like biting necks so much that I'm starting to suspect you're a vampire."
Howard seemed to be in a good mood, chuckling and joking with me. "Do you think I'd be afraid of garlic? Or sunlight?"
I hadn't tried garlic since I didn't like it, but he didn't seem to be afraid of sunlight, as he often appeared in the sun.
While I was lost in thought, he started making his move.
I wanted to refuse, but my body was too weak to resist. I could only try to scare him. "I haven't showered. Aren't you afraid of germs on me?"
I had gym class today, and even I was disgusted by my own smell, but he didn't seem to notice at all.
"It's fine; you don't smell bad at all." He seemed addicted, taking a deep sniff, which gave me goosebumps.
Then I pushed him away forcefully. "I'm going to shower."
"Alright, I'll wait for you." His tone was unhurried, as patient as a predator waiting for its prey.
When I came out of the bathroom, my phone was ringing non-stop.
Howard saw me come out and handed me the phone. "Hurry up and answer it."
Seeing it was Aiden's calling, I immediately straightened up. "Hello, Mr. Martinez, what can I do for you so late?"
Aiden's authoritative voice came from the other end. "The Martinez family has an important task. Tomorrow, you're coming with me. This is your first field experience, so I hope you take it seriously."
Hearing this, I got excited and agreed eagerly. Then I thought of Amelia and asked tentatively, "Mr. Martinez, I'm a bit nervous. Can I bring Amelia with me?"
I thought Aiden would refuse, but after a pause, he surprisingly agreed.
After hanging up, I immediately called Amelia, telling her about the opportunity to gain some experience tomorrow, and Amelia sounded both nervous and excited. "Really? My grandpa agreed?"
"Of course." I said firmly.
"Great, thank you, Karena. If it weren't for you, I probably wouldn't have this chance." Going on a mission with Aiden was something Amelia had always dreamed of.
"Then get a good night's sleep tonight." With Amelia coming along, I wouldn't be nervous or scared.
Just after I hung up, Howard pulled me into his arms. "You've finished your call and your business, right?"
Before I could react, I was thrown onto the bed. "Wait, don't leave marks on my neck. I have to go out tomorrow."
The next morning, when I looked in the mirror and saw my neck covered in marks, I cursed Howard in my heart. I had no choice but to apply concealer and wear a turtleneck sweater before heading to school.
Amelia was clearly still buzzing from last night's excitement. When I saw her in the morning, she was still on cloud nine.
"Your dark circles are so heavy. Didn't sleep well last night?" I teased.
Amelia teased me either, "You should be careful not to overindulge."
I playfully hit her.
We didn't have classes in the afternoon, so we arranged to meet Aiden at the school gate.
"Are you going to deal with Professor Scott's matter? I'm coming with you." Just as we stepped out of the classroom, an annoying person blocked our way.
I frowned at Wesley. "We're not going to deal with Professor Scott's matter."
He clearly didn't believe me and insisted on coming along.
Thinking Aiden would definitely not agree to take him, I decided to ignore him.
When we reached the school gate, we saw a black car from a distance.
Aiden first noticed Wesley following us. "Is this your classmate?"
"Yes, Grandpa. He insists on coming with us." Amelia's meaning was clear: let Aiden drive him away.
To our surprise, Aiden looked at him with interest. "Are you interested in this kind of thing?"
Wesley nodded. "I know it might be a bother, but please take me with you."
I thought Aiden would refuse, but he nodded. "Alright, get in the car."
Amelia and I were both stunned.
Amelia spoke first, "Grandpa, are you really taking him?"
Aiden had already sat in the front passenger seat. "Since he wants to see, let him come. It's not a big deal anyway."
At this moment, Wesley had already gotten into the car, raising his eyebrows at us as if to say, "If you don't get in, we're leaving."
Amelia and I exchanged a glance and reluctantly got into the car.
