I looked up at him in surprise, pretending to be innocent, and tentatively asked, "What did you mean?"
Wesley stared at me intensely, his eyes seemingly piercing into my soul. "I can see him. That night when you were keeping vigil for Sophia, I saw everything."
My heart started pounding, and I dropped the act. I sat up straight in a flash. "Then do you know why is he haunting me? Is it because of the tattoo or because of Sophia?"
I had so many questions in my mind.
Although Howard had always been good to me and hadn't done anything to harm me, his presence had indeed turned my life upside down. If possible, I wanted to get rid of him.
Wesley seemed to read my thoughts and smiled. "You want to get rid of him? No way. He'll stick to you like a curse."
"Wesley." Amelia, who had just returned with lunch, looked at the person sitting across from me in surprise.
Wesley stood up and left in large strides.
Because of his words, I was in a daze for a long time.
Amelia noticed something was off about me and sat down next to me with a concerned frown. "Karena, what did he just say to you?"
I looked up at her with a pale face, tears suddenly streaming down my cheeks. "Amelia, you have to help me."
Seeing me cry, she became a bit flustered. " Whatever it is, just tell me. Don't cry."
Not knowing if Howard was present, even my sobs were weak and intermittent. "Wesley said he could see Howard. He also said Howard is a curse. Do you think I'll never be able to get rid of him?"
The mere thought of being bound to him for life evoked a sense of distress within me. Previously, I was only concerned with staying alive and didn't have time to think about anything else. Now that Sophia's matter was resolved, I wanted to get rid of Howard.
Amelia looked at me helplessly. "I really want to help you, but I..."
Knowing what she meant, I quickly calmed down; crying wouldn't help. "You're right. Even your grandpa can't fix this, so crying to you won't help. Forget it, just think of it as me venting."
Amelia suddenly grabbed my hand and said, "Even though my grandfather won't help you, I'll try to think of a way."
I was deeply moved and held her hand. "Amelia, thank you."
After lunch, we returned to the dorm together. The heavy mood made the atmosphere heavy as well.
Lying in bed during the afternoon nap, I couldn't sleep, tossing and turning, my mind filled with what Sophia had said.
"Did you cry?" A deep, sexy voice came, startling me, and I quickly looked up.
Howard had somehow appeared on my small bed, his deep blue eyes looking at me with an unreadable emotion.
Thinking about all the difficulties and troubles caused by him, I couldn't help but feel a bit resentful. "No."
I turned over, intending to sleep and ignore him, but he suddenly lay down beside me. "Did I upset you again?"
Perhaps because of my bad tone, he frowned as well.
Looking at his handsome face, I felt extremely wronged; I was just an ordinary college student and didn't want to get involved with something like this.
With thid thought, my eyes reddened uncontrollably, and I was about to cry again. Howard seemed a bit at a loss, staring at me with a hint of hesitation in his eyes. "So it really is because of me."
I sat up abruptly. "Can you tell me why you chose me?"
This was something I couldn't understand.
Howard sat up as well, his thin lips pressing together slightly. "So you're crying for this?"
I could clearly sense the displeasure in his tone, and the air around us seemed to grow tense.
His originally gentle blue eyes now seemed to emit a cold light, staring at me intensely.
Then I realized that his recent amicability had made me forget that he was a demon. My undisguised desire to get rid of him had made him very angry.
I braced myself and shook my head, trying to explain. "No, I just miss my family."
Hearing my unconvincing reason, he remained unsatisfied. He suddenly chuckled, lifting his hand to pinch my chin. "Since you want to know so badly, I'll tell you. There is indeed some bad blood between us, not because of the tattoo, but because of your family. Your family owes me."
I didn't expect him to reveal the reason so easily. I grabbed his hand in surprise. "What do you mean? What does my family owe you?"
If it was my family that owed him, it shouldn't fall upon me to repay it.
Howard didn't say anything, just gave me a cold look before disappearing.
Because of his words, I spent the entire afternoon in a daze. When I walked out of the classroom after class, I almost tripped on flat ground.
Amelia looked at my state and became even more worried. "Are you okay? You've been distracted all afternoon. Did something happen?"
I looked back, seeing no threshold or obstacles on the road, and frowned slightly.
"No, I just felt like I tripped on something." After saying this, the air around me suddenly felt a bit chilly.
Ever since meeting Howard, strange things kept happening around me; it might be another ghost messing with me
Then a slightly mocking voice sounded behind me.
Startled, I turned around, only to see Wesley standing a few steps away, staring at me with a ghostly look, or more accurately, staring at my side.
Since he said he could see Howard, my perception of him had changed. His gaze seemed to remind me that there was someone beside me.
Then he said something ambiguous again, his expression still eerie, "With him around, you'll always have bad luck. This is just the beginning."
Suddenly, I felt like Sophia had possessed him again, frowning and glaring at him. "Can you stop acting all mysterious? Do you think it's fun to scare me?"
"Just wait and see." Wesley smiled, ignoring my anger.
