Chapter 66 Eliza

Tonight’s auction is certainly competitive. This female werewolf is seemingly a scalding hot treasure. The asking price is already extremely high. But in my opinion, no matter how many black diamonds are required for this one, it’s a product worth buying. Seeing werewolves outside the town of Moonlit is very rare nowadays. They are either skin and bones, or too sick to be consumed. As for this one, a moderate level of health and youth is where her real value lies.

But I chose not to participate tonight. I’m enjoying myself, watching the show and looking forward to a potential plunder. There are a few active bidders who constantly push their buttons to raise the price. From what I can see, only two bidders are determined to take home this prize. First, a portly dwarf in luxurious clothes with five gold rings worn on each hand - a dark creature who made his fortune after the war. No one knows how he acquired his money, but he is indeed a bidder who doesn’t lack diamonds. The other bidder, however, is more mysterious. She is a human lady, neatly dressed in a suit and wearing an earbud, connecting her with the actual buyer hidden behind the call. She reports each updated price to the other end, and raises the price higher and higher.

The bids between these two are going back and forth, which filters out all the other bidders and leaves only them. As the price continues to climb higher, I look over to the man in the dark robe, in the corner by himself. He seems to be taking out his anger on the chair he’s sitting in. An ally to the she-wolf. He intrigues me more than the werewolf on the stage. I’m surprised to see that no one in the audience has spotted him; a powerful werewolf is sitting right here among them, and they are stupidly fighting over a weaker one. He is my target.

The woman in the suit has just raised her bid. The audience hollers as they all look over at the rich dwarf. He is a successful businessman, who determines a reasonable price for everything. His bid jumps up as well, much higher than what the lady in the suit had offered. The buyer at the other end of the line must be surprised to be confronted with such an eligible competitor. The woman in the suit is waiting for her instructions. The audience goes dead quiet. Still, the dwarf’s face is ridiculously calm. He’s ready for another raise. To everyone’s surprise, the lady in the suit gives up and leaves the auction.

The audience is applauding. A dwarf conquers a human. What a triumph. The she-wolf lifts her tired eyes up to her new owner, then lowers down her heavy lids without a complaint. The man in the black robe is getting himself ready.

As everyone leaves the audience, the rich dwarf goes backstage to confirm his payment. The she-wolf will be delivered, protected by security, to his mansion in Compass City immediately. Is this successful purchase a stroke of luck, or a bad omen? I have to find out.

The man in the black robe is hiding himself in the shadows with his eyes set on the rich dwarf. I stay hidden in my car and wait for him to initiate his move. The dwarf is getting into his limo as the truck loaded with the werewolf follows behind. The man in the black robe is driving a black motorcycle with a completely silent engine. No one would be able notice him if they weren’t paying special attention. I follow them quietly in my car.

The rich dwarf chooses to dwell in a luxury mansion that sits at the top of a hill - a prime piece of real estate. The house is also heavily guarded. The gate slowly opens up as his limo approaches. The truck drives in after the limo, into a spacious garage. The robed man hides his motorcycle behind a tree and sneaks in along the walls. I stop my engine and get out of the car. I put a tiny tracker underneath the black motorcycle, then sneak into the house behind him.

The men from the auction unload the cage from the truck. The werewolf is curled up and shivering inside. That rich dwarf is licking his fat lips while looking at the product he just bought. He waves everyone off and announces that no one should disturb him tonight.

Then, he’s left alone with the werewolf as every guard and driver has taken their leave. They are alone in the garage, except for the man in the black robe, and myself. The dwarf opens the cage and pulls the werewolf out. He smashes her against the wall. The werewolf lets out a terrified scream, but she has no confidence to fight back. The dwarf is laughing loudly, as he’s about to achieve a great amount of satisfaction.

The man in the black robe quietly paces out from the shadows. A sharp knife is gripped hard in his hand, and the blade shines under the cold light in the garage. He moves behind the dwarf, who’s focusing all his attention on the she-wolf. The black robe grabs his chin from behind and points the tip of the knife to his throat. “This will cut right in if you utter one words out of your filthy mouth.” The dwarf surrenders himself at once to the black robe and begs for his life. Under his black hood, he takes a quick look at the she-wolf who he intends to save. He decides not to spare the life in his hands, and slits the dwarf’s throat open.

He puts the heavy, dead creature in the cage and locks it. No one will discover their boss’s death until tomorrow morning.

“You can come out,” The man in the black robe says loudly as he holds up the she-wolf.

I move myself into the light and smile brightly at him. “You certainly have a sharp nose.”

“Knew you were following me since the auction.” He grinds his teeth as he speaks.

“No need to be angry. I won’t kill you both or expose your identity, at least not now. I’m in no mood for a fight. But if you insist, I can promise you now, that girl you just saved will be dead in a heartbeat. How about a deal?”

The man in the black robe looks at her tenderly, then says, “What do you want?”

“I want the location of the place you’re staying, and I will make sure that girl escapes from this city unharmed.”
