Chapter 335 Change to Another Way to Make Him Obedient
Chapter 335 Change to Another Way to Make Him Obedient
Jennifer stopped midstride, "What do you mean?"
Frederick spared her a glance then headed straight for the back garden without saying a word.
Jennifer fell silent for a moment, then followed him.
Once they got to the back garden, Jennifer asked, "Tell me, what exactly did you mean by that?"
Frederick's thin lips parted slightly, "I mean, I can give up my position as the head of the Russell Group."
Hearing this, Jennifer's whole body trembled as she stared at him intently.
There was a stillness to Frederick's expression; he didn't look like he was joking .
But how could he possibly give up his position as head of the group for no reason?
She asked suspiciously, "Are you really that kind-hearted?"
"No, I have conditions."
She knew he would have conditions.
Jennifer asked, "What are your conditions?"
Frederick looked at her, "Aunt Jennifer, I'm sure you're well aware of what Lucas has been up to lately, right?"
Of course she was aware.
Jennifer's expression soured, "You mean him picking up and dropping off those three kids every day?"
Frederick said, "You should know very well that picking up and dropping off the three kids is just a cover. Getting Xandra to be with him is his endgame."
Jennifer's expression grew even worse, "I know."
Frederick said, "I assume you don't want to see that happen, do you?"
"Of course not."
These days, all she could think about was how to make her son give up the idea of being with Xandra.
"So, my condition is that I hope you can make him give up this idea," Frederick said.
Hearing this, Jennifer felt a wave of irritation.
"If I could make him give up, I wouldn't be so anxious. Ever since he regained consciousness, he hasn't been as compliant as he used to be."
Her mind wandered to the discussions she had with Lucas after he regained consciousness. Anxiety crept in as she remembered his cold stare when he looked at her, robbing her of sleep.
Frederick was silent for a moment, "If he won't listen, use a new strategy until he has no choice but to hear you."
Jennifer looked at him, "What do you suggest?"
Frederick: "Arrange a marriage for him."
Jennifer frowned, "That's it? I told you, he doesn't listen to me anymore."
If it were that simple, she would have arranged a marriage for her son long ago.
"Aunt Jennifer, you managed to snatch my dad from my mum, so I take it that you have little or no regard for the rules. Do you genuinely fail to grasp what I mean by using a new strategy?"
Frederick stared at her intently and asked.
Jennifer ignored the sarcasm in his tone, her heart skipping a beat.
"You mean..."
Frederick looked away, his tone indifferent.
"Tonight is Grandpa's birthday, and many young ladies from prominent families will be here. I'm sure you already have someone in mind, right? If everyone sees the lady of your choosing together with Lucas, don't you think he will have no choice but to heed your words and accept the engagement?"
Jennifer understood - Frederick wanted her to scheme against her own son!
Her eyes flickered, somewhat conflicted, "You want me to scheme against my own son? He'll hate me when he finds out."
Frederick smiled coldly.
"If you don't want to use extreme measures to make him listen, then, by all means, watch him continue being irresponsible. Pretend we never had this conversation, if that's what you want. I'll hold onto the position as head of the Russell Group until I die, and he will remain under my control for the rest of his life!"
Frederick turned to leave after speaking.
Jennifer's fingers suddenly clenched as her chest heaved.
"Wait!"
Frederick stopped in his tracks.
Jennifer took a deep breath and pulled out her phone to turn on the recording function.
"Are you being honest with me? You will really make Lucas the head of the group if he agrees to this? You won't stand in his way anymore?"
Frederick said, "I never lie. As long as he gets engaged to someone else, I'll give him the position as head of the group."
Jennifer nodded, "Okay, I've recorded this. It's a deal!"
She even recorded it?
A hint of mockery flashed in Frederick's eyes, but he said nothing and strode away.
Watching his disappearing figure, Jennifer gripped her phone tightly, her face determined.
Her son would definitely blame her for scheming against him.
But that would only be temporary.
He was her own flesh and blood - he would see that she only meant well in due time.
Meanwhile, Frederick walked to the front hall and scanned the area, seeing Xandra with Philip and his wife.
And although Lucas was in the garden playing with Beth and Maggie, his gaze kept drifting toward Xandra.
Frederick's eyes darkened as he strode over to Xandra's side and wrapped his arm around her slender waist.
"What are you talking about?"
"Just chatting. Where did you go?" Xandra asked.
"I went to the restroom."
Philip glanced at him, and seeing his calm expression, concluded that he must have settled things with Jennifer.
He couldn't help but glance at Lucas standing in the garden.
He found himself genuinely pitying his younger cousin.
Although he was the second son of the Russell family, he had lived under Jennifer's control his whole life, unlike him and Frederick who lived freely.
If Jennifer's personality hadn't been so domineering, this younger cousin might have been brave enough to express his feelings to Xandra back then.
Perhaps things wouldn't have turned out this way.
And now, if he knew his own mother was scheming against him, who knows how he'd react.
He wouldn't go crazy, would he?
In the garden, Lucas had no idea he had become a lamb for the slaughter.
At this moment, seeing Frederick with his arm around Xandra so affectionately drove him crazy.
His Adam's apple bobbed as he said to Beth, who was chattering away with Maggie, "Beth, Mommy seems to really dislike Daddy since coming back to the country. Daddy wants to talk to her alone. Can you help?"
Beth naturally agreed to her 'real daddy's' request.
"Okay!"
"Then have her..."
Lucas leaned close to Beth's ear and whispered a few words.
Over here, Xandra and the others were casually chatting.
Beth walked over and tugged at her hand.
"Mommy, my face got dirty."
Beth pointed to a bit of dirt on her face and said in a sweet childlike voice.
Xandra smiled, "Let's go, Mommy will take you to the restroom to clean up."
"Okay!"
The two went to the restroom on the first floor.
Xandra washed her face for her, "There, you're a clean little princess again."
Beth looked at her with wide eyes, "Mommy, the flowers in Great-Grandpa's back garden are so pretty. Come play with me for a bit!"
Xandra didn't object as Beth took her hand and led her toward the back garden.
But as they walked, she sensed something was off.
Her daughter didn't seem like she was taking her to the back garden to admire the autumn scenery, but rather to meet someone.
Xandra's brow furrowed slightly. Just as she was about to ask, she saw a tall figure standing under the osmanthus tree in the distance.
It was Lucas!
She hadn't expected him to have her daughter trick her into coming here!
"Daddy, Mommy's here," Beth said to Lucas.
"Thank you, Beth. Go play," Lucas said gently.
"Okay!"
Beth responded, then said to Xandra, "Mommy, don't ignore Daddy. Daddy is so pitiful."
During this time, after spending time with Lucas, she had long been won over by his gentle and refined exterior.
In her eyes, Lucas was the vulnerable one.
They were supposed to be a family of four, but Mommy had been stolen away by Daddy Fred.
And he kept getting yelled at by Daddy Fred, and Mommy wouldn't even talk to him.
Her real daddy was just too pitiful.
Her little brain couldn't think about so many complicated things. She just hoped Mommy wouldn't ignore her real daddy!
