Chapter 24 He Is a Famous Playboy
"Ray, what brings you to the hospital?" Xandra asked.
"Grandpa called me about what's going on, so I came over."
Frederick's handsome face stayed blank.
"Did I make you miss work? You should go help Mr. Russell," Xandra said, sounding sorry.
"It's all good, no rush."
Philip jumped in, "Ray, weren't you here to see your mother-in-law? You should go with Xandra."
Frederick shot him a cold look, leaving Philip confused.
He was just trying to help, what did he do wrong?
Just then, Philip's phone rang. He excused himself and stepped away to take the call.
"Is your mom in that room?" Frederick asked.
"Yeah."
"Let's go."
Frederick started walking towards the room.
Xandra quickly followed, "Are you sure this isn't messing with your work?"
He replied, "It's fine, really."
Xandra couldn't help but say, "Your boss is really kind."
Frederick's brow furrowed slightly, feeling more annoyed.
"Do you not follow entertainment news? He's quite the notorious playboy."
Xandra gasped, glancing at Philip who was still on the phone, hoping he hadn't heard their conversation.
"Keep your voice down. Your boss just helped me out, how can you talk behind his back?"
Frederick's face darkened, "I'm just stating the facts."
"Stop it!"
Xandra playfully glared at him and pushed open the door to the hospital room.
Frederick's handsome face tightened further, feeling even more displeased.
Could she really be falling for Philip?
Xandra entered the room, greeted the nurse, and then sat beside her mother's bed.
Seeing her mother peacefully sleeping with an oxygen mask, Xandra held her hand, feeling a lump in her throat.
"Mom, I have something to tell you. I got married. Not to Lucius, but to a really good man. His name is Raymond Flores, and he treats me and the kids very well."
Harper Cavendish slept peacefully, showing no reaction.
Frederick stood nearby, sensing the sorrow in Xandra's voice.
Thinking about how she had to fend for herself and her three kids after her family fell apart, he felt a surge of sympathy.
He put his arm around her shoulder and gently patted her.
Xandra composed herself and continued to softly talk to her mother about recent events.
Frederick remained silent, standing by patiently.
Meanwhile...
Lucius, looking disheveled, begrudgingly registered for a check-up.
After registering, he sat in the waiting area, clenching his fists in frustration as he thought about Frederick's annoyingly handsome face.
He pulled out his phone and dialed Logan's number again, determined to get some answers.
This time, the call connected.
"Mr. Smith, you finally answered! Are you on a business trip?"
"I've been reassigned overseas by the company," Logan replied irritably.
Lucius's heart sank, "Why were you suddenly reassigned overseas?"
With Logan gone, his project would surely be taken over by someone else, rendering all the money he spent on Logan useless.
"I got reassigned because of you!" Logan shouted.
"Because of me?"
"Yes! You put a woman in my room! The higher-ups said I was morally compromised and sent me to the middle of nowhere overseas!"
Logan was furious, "Lucius, you really screwed me over! Don't contact me again, and forget about collaborating with the Russell Group!"
The call abruptly ended.
Lucius stared at the phone, his expression shifting.
Logan was notorious for his womanizing ways. If he hadn't hinted that he was interested in Xandra, Lucius wouldn't have thought to send her to his room.
But now Logan was blaming him for the fallout?
He felt completely wronged!
Lucius's body ached with regret.
He wanted to ask Logan about Xandra and the man driving the Bentley, but it seemed pointless now.
It must have been a mix-up where Xandra ended up in the Bentley guy's room.
And Philip, to cover up his own shady dealings with the Bentley guy, had Xandra and the Bentley guy pretend to be married.
Xandra, out of spite, married the Bentley guy to get back at him.
That had to be it!
Lucius felt smug.
Xandra must still love him; otherwise, she wouldn't marry a guy just to spite him!
What should he do about Xandra?
Xandra, unaware of Lucius's delusions, didn't stay long in her mother's room, worried about interrupting Raymond's work.
Philip was waiting for them in the hallway.
When they came out, he said to Frederick, "I spoke with the hospital. They'll make sure Mrs. Cavendish gets extra care. If anyone causes trouble, the Russell Group's legal team will handle it."
Xandra felt deeply grateful.
"Mr. Russell, thank you so much!"
"No need to be so formal, we're family," Philip said casually.
What? Family?
Xandra looked puzzled.
Frederick's eyes narrowed coldly.
Philip quickly realized his mistake and laughed it off.
"Xandra, I consider Ray like a brother. I rely on him a lot, so I need to make sure his family is taken care of."
Xandra smiled, feeling that her new husband's boss was genuinely approachable.
If she ever got the chance to work at the Russell Group, she'd work hard to repay his kindness.
As they took the elevator down, it stopped and three people got in.
Xandra's eyes lit up when she saw one of them.
"Lenora."
She had run into her best friend, Lenora.
"Xandy! Are you here to see your mom?" Lenora smiled.
"Yeah. What about you? Why are you here?"
This was the Russell Group's private hospital, not the Seaside City General Hospital where Lenora worked.
"Oh, there's a conference here today," Lenora explained.
Xandra nodded and glanced at Frederick.
"Lenora, let me introduce you. This is my husband, Raymond Flores. Ray, this is my best friend, Lenora Gray."
Frederick and Lenora exchanged nods, "Nice to meet you."
Lenora looked up, her first thought was: What a handsome man!
Her second thought: He looks familiar.
She didn't have time to dwell on it and greeted him, "Nice to meet you."
Xandra then glanced at Philip, continuing the introductions, "Lenora, this is my husband's boss, Philip Russell."
Philip and Lenora's eyes met, and Philip smirked.
"Well, if it isn't Miss Slip-Tongue. Long time no see!"
Lenora froze, her face turning bright red.
After a moment, she managed to respond, "I see you often enough in the flashy entertainment news! Playboy Peacock!"
Xandra remained silent.Miss Slip-Tongue, Playboy Peacock!
These two sure knew how to give each other nicknames!
They must have a history, and probably not a pleasant one!
