Chapter 22 Be My Lover
The group glanced at Lucius and started talking one after another.
"Ms. Cavendish, isn't there someone willing to pay off your debt? Why would you break off your engagement with Mr. York?"
"Exactly! Mr. York is one of the most promising young men in Seaside City right now. You should hold onto him, treat him right, and let him pay off your debt!"
"Yeah, Ms. Cavendish, don't be stubborn and suffer. Hurry up and make nice with Mr. York."
The teasing was relentless.
Lucius smirked, greeted them briefly, and then pulled Xandra aside.
Xandra yanked her hand away, her voice cold. "Lucius, did you bring them to the hospital to stir up trouble?"
Lucius's eyes flickered. "They showed up at my place. I didn't know where you were living now, so I had no choice but to bring them here."
He had said he must have Xandra at least once. So he thought of using the Cavendish family's debt to force her hand.
He asked, "What are you planning to do now?"
Xandra's mind was racing. She knew these people were here to trap her, but she felt powerless to resist. If she didn’t repay the money, who knows what they might do?
"I'll earn the money slowly and pay them back."
"Just you? Do you think they'll believe you?"
"They have to!"
Lucius looked at her. "Xandra, your family went bankrupt, and there's probably still a lot of debt. Today is just the beginning. I bet more creditors will come to the hospital, making your mom's life miserable."
Xandra had thought of this too, and she felt a wave of helplessness wash over her.
Seeing her pale face, Lucius's lips curled as he got to the point.
"Xandra, if you agree to be my lover, I'll slowly pay off your family's debt."
Xandra looked up, her chest heaving slightly.
"Lucius, you owe your success today to my dad. Without him providing resources and initial funding for your company, you couldn't have started your business or bought a mansion."
"Can't you think about the good our family has done for you and help me pay off the debt? I promise I'll write you an IOU and pay you back as soon as possible!"
Lucius's face darkened at her words.
"Xandra, you say your dad was good to me, but wasn't it because he wanted me as a backup? Do you know what others say about me? In their eyes, I'm just your family's lackey, a worthless person living off you!"
"I flattered you all, including your parents, providing emotional support. Isn't that a form of repayment? I've long repaid your father's kindness in this way!"
Xandra clenched her fists, feeling it was laughable.
"Repaying kindness? We don't need your insincere efforts! You've been using me to get resources, and you have the nerve to say you're repaying our kindness?"
"Enough! What's past is past!"
Lucius's eyes showed a hint of impatience.
"Xandra, now I just ask you one thing: do you want to be my lover? The terms I'm offering are quite good. Think about your current situation—a single mom with three kids. Even if you find a sugar daddy now, you won't be worth much!"
"After all, there are plenty of fresh college girls out there. What do you have to compete with them? I'm offering this out of the affection we once had."
Lucius lifted her chin lightly, looking at Xandra's slightly flushed face from anger.
"If you agree, I'll deal with them right now. Tonight, I'll book a room at the Crownlight Club. You wait for me there."
Xandra's eyes flashed with anger, and she slapped his hand away.
"Lucius, stop dreaming! I'd rather starve than be your lover!"
Even now, she refused to give in.
Lucius was livid.
As Xandra tried to leave, he grabbed her wrist and pinned her against the wall.
"Xandra, are you still so proud because you're afraid your husband will find out? Does he know how much debt your family has? If he did, he'd regret marrying you!"
"I bet you'll be a divorcee soon! Then you'll come begging me for help, and I might not be so willing!"
Xandra was both angry and anxious. "Lucius, whether I'm divorced or not is none of your business, and I won't come begging you! Let go of me, or I'll accuse you of harassment!"
She struggled, and suddenly, she saw a tall figure striding toward them.
Her eyes lit up, and she blurted out, "Honey!"
Lucius thought she was bluffing.
"Stop pretending. Who are you trying to scare, Xandra..."
Before he could finish, he felt a tight grip on his arm.
The next moment, he was thrown against the wall with a heavy thud.
Lucius cried out in pain and looked up to see a figure standing before him.
Before he could make out the face, the person grabbed his collar and started punching him, blow after blow, each punch landing solidly, making Lucius scream in agony.
Xandra watched as Frederick's fierce punches seemed intent on killing Lucius. She swallowed hard and hurried over to stop him.
"Enough, don't hit him anymore!"
Frederick's face was cold and fierce.
He glanced at her briefly, his gaze icy.
"What, you feel sorry for him?"
Xandra said, "How could I? I'm worried about your hand! Look, it's all red!"
She took Frederick's hand and gently blew on it, her voice soft.
"Keep hitting him, and you'll end up killing him. It's not worth ruining your life over a scumbag."
Her eyes were full of emotion, and Frederick's cold demeanor softened slightly.
His gaze fell on Lucius, who was bruised and bleeding, struggling to get up. His eyes turned cold again.
"Do you think I've been too lenient with you, letting you keep harassing my wife?"
Lucius felt pain in every part of his body!
He clutched his chest, barely supporting himself against the wall, and looked up at the ceiling.
"There are cameras here. Just wait, I'll sue you for attempted murder!"
He was going to sue him!
Xandra's grip on Frederick's hand tightened, a flash of panic in her eyes.
Lucius had been in the Seaside City business scene for years and had some influence. If he insisted on suing Frederick, Frederick, who had no power or influence, would definitely end up in jail!
What should she do?
In contrast to Xandra's unease, Frederick remained calm.
He glanced at Xandra's hand tightly holding his and patted it gently, silently comforting her.
A mere Lucius was nothing to him.
In Seaside City, no one dared to go against him!
At that moment, a male voice came from not far away.
"Oh? You really want to sue him? Why don't you sue me too?"
Philip, who had come with Frederick, watched his cousin's outburst before walking over leisurely.
A slight smile played on his handsome face, but it didn't reach his eyes.
Lucius was struggling to pull out his phone to call the police.
Hearing Philip's words, he paused.
"Mr. Russell?"
He recognized Philip as the general manager of the Russell Group, in charge of the entertainment industry. Two years ago, he lost his wife and has a son. Philip often made headlines with various celebrities, and there were rumors that he didn't care about gender when it came to his romantic interests.
