Chapter 332 Internal Strife for a Woman?
Chapter 332 Internal Strife for a Woman?
Peter said, "The kids will be coming to my place for school soon. I'll have plenty of chances to see them then. You should take the opportunity to spend more time with them while they're still here."
Hearing this, Richard's previously smug expression faded.
"Who says they're going to your place for school? These are the Russell family's children. They're doing just fine in school here. Why would they need to go abroad?"
Before he knew the three kids were the Russell family's bloodline, he didn't care where they went to school.
But now...
"Richard, let's not be stubborn about this."
Peter said, "Forget about how gifted Chuck is and it would be such a waste for him to stay in kindergarten here. Just think about the complicated situation between Xandra and your two grandsons. Aren't you worried about all the gossip the kids might hear if they go to school here?"
Richard actually understood this perfectly well, but he still insisted stubbornly, "They're the Russell family's children. I'd like to see who would dare..."
"Hey, don't make empty promises!"
Peter cut him off. "People talk. Even if they're afraid of the Russell family's power and don't say anything to your face, what about behind your back? Can you guarantee the kids won't hear any gossip as they grow up? It's better to give them a fresh start in a different environment."
Richard fell silent, his good mood completely gone.
He knew Peter had a point.
But these three children were the Russell family's descendants!
He was getting on in years and had long lost interest in power plays.
All he wanted was to enjoy his grandchildren and live out his years in peace.
He'd finally gotten these great-grandchildren, and He couldn't stand the thought of them leaving.
"Richard, I know you can't bear to be apart from the kids. If you miss them in the future, just come visit me often. We two old guys can keep each other company and raise our descendants together."
This suggestion wasn't completely out of the question.
But Richard still couldn't quite bring himself to accept it.
Why couldn't those three children have belonged to his older grandson?
And then there was his younger grandson Lucas.
He'd spoken with him and knew there was history between him and Xandra.
It was clear his younger grandson still hadn't moved on.
Could these two brothers end up competing for the same woman?
At this thought, Richard's brow furrowed even more deeply.
Not long after he hung up, Frederick's group arrived.
Richard looked at the three adorable children walking toward him and sighed.
His older grandson said he'd handle this matter after returning, but who knew what he would do.
"Great-Grandpa."
The three little ones walked up to Richard and sweetly called out to him.
Richard temporarily pushed aside all his thoughts and cheerfully responded.
Charles wore a deep purple suit, while Elizabeth and Margaret wore pink-purple puffy dresses.
The three children were so beautiful they looked like little princes and princesses from a cartoon.
Richard genuinely loved them and praised all three in a gentle voice.
"Are you wearing matching outfits today? Who prepared these? They're beautiful."
"Mommy prepared them for us," Beth said proudly.
"Yeah, Mommy's going to change into a pink-purple dress tonight too. She said it's a family outfit," Maggie said in her sweet childlike voice.
"Really? Your mommy is so thoughtful." Richard added another compliment.
Xandra's lips curved slightly.
She had indeed deliberately dressed the children and the couple in matching colors.
Sure enough, Frederick was also wearing a deep purple suit at the moment.
If Lucas hadn't appeared, they would be a happy family of five.
Lucas was wearing a green suit today. Looking at their matching outfits, he clenched his fingers but said nothing.
"Happy birthday."
Rachel and Harper presented their gifts.
"You didn't need to bring gifts."
Richard said politely, then said to Rachel, "Rachel, Harper is in your hands today. You need to take good care of her for me."
"No problem." Rachel readily agreed.
Richard then looked at Lucas. "When are your parents coming?"
"They should be here soon," Lucas said gently.
Richard's expression was displeased. "Those two are acting like bigger shots than the guests."
Lucas didn't say anything, his eyes occasionally falling on Xandra.
Since returning to the country, she hadn't looked at him properly. Philip said she was planning to resign.
Did it have to be this way?
Was it to draw a clear line between them?
But wasn't she forgetting that he was now the biological father of the three children?
Could they really draw a clear line?
If the children wanted her to be with him, what would she do?
Soon after, Henry and Jennifer arrived.
Both were dressed elegantly, but their expressions carried a hint of weariness.
Ever since Mrs. Byron was set up by Frederick and slept with Henry once, she had shamelessly come to Jennifer asking for resources to restart her factory.
Both husband and wife felt sick about it. In the end, Jennifer suppressed her anger and gave her some money to send her away.
From that moment on, the two had been at odds, frequently arguing over small things.
And now, Jennifer had learned that the children Xandra gave birth to were her son's, making her already bad mood even worse.
During this time, she had turned down all her appointments with the other wealthy ladies.
Because she couldn't stand their gleeful looks.
This Xandra was truly her nemesis!
Since she appeared, her life had never been peaceful!
"Dad."
The couple walked up to Richard and greeted him.
Richard looked at their unhappy faces and was clearly displeased.
"Where did you two just come from?"
Henry said, "From home."
Richard sneered, "I thought you two just came from a funeral, both of you looking so gloomy."
Being mocked by his own father, Henry choked but didn't dare say anything.
Richard said, "Today is my special day. You two need to at least pretend to be happy."
"Got it," Henry responded.
"Since you got it, why don't you go say hello to your in-law and Rachel?" Richard said.
At that moment, Rachel and Harper were sitting on the sofa playing with the three children.
Henry glanced over. One was his detested ex-wife, the other was his disapproved family-in-law.
He really didn't want to see these two people.
But with his father present, he couldn't ignore them, so he had to walk over and greet them.
"Harper, Rachel, you're here."
Harper gave him a slight nod, which counted as a greeting.
Rachel glanced at him and deliberately jabbed, "Henry, you don't look too good today. What's wrong, did you have a fight with Jennifer?"
Jennifer, who had followed over, felt a surge of anger.
Before Henry could speak, she jumped in first.
"Thanks for your concern, my husband and I are doing great. But what about you? I heard that Mr. Hawk from the Spark Creation Group married his goddaughter. You must have been heartbroken for a while, right?"
She knew it! How could the head of a multinational corporation want a middle-aged woman?
Look, he actually married his own goddaughter!
This was the only thing that had made her happy recently.
