Chapter 30 Saving The Villian

Chapter 30 Saving The Villian
It felt amazing holding on to Ezra as we made our way through the streets. The people who were following us had a hard time keeping up as he weaved us through the busy streets. He even shot us through some alleyways and side streets. I smacked him as he took us up one-way street. He was so reckless. I couldn’t tell what he said, but the rumble of laughter I felt from him when I smacked him sent a rush of excitement through me. This felt right.

He parked the bike around the back of the building. I jumped off, giving him room to get off the bike as well. I took the chance to smack him again on his chest. “What is wrong with you?” I scolded.

He took the helmet off my head and placed it on the bike. My scolding didn't seem to faze him. He walked up to me, a predator stalking prey. I backed up a bit back up along the wall. I knew he wasn’t going to harm me, so I let him corner me. The cold brick was the opposite of the warmth coming off his body. He put one arm on the wall above me. He used his free hand to lift my chin and meet his piercing gaze.

“I told you, mouse... I am the Villain. What are a few traffic laws compared to the things I have done?” He was trying so hard to push this picture of himself on me. It was starting to feel like there was more to him than he wanted me to see. I needed to investigate.

“You like to tell me this... but I have yet to see this villain version of you.” I moved closer, filling the space that he left between us. It was a direct challenge. Was he going to take the bait?

“Now, now, mouse, are you telling me that you want to be a villain? Once you know, I think you will be corrupted like me.” He smirked playfully at me, but there was honesty in his words.

“Maybe I do, maybe that's why I left and changed my whole life.” I looked at him, hoping he wouldn’t sense the lie I was saying. He looked at me for a long moment before leaning down my ear and whispering.

“Bullshit.” He turned so fast away from me and walked towards the front of the building. It took me a minute to put together my thoughts in the wake of his cold from his walking away. I followed him to the front. Before turning the corner, he stopped me in my tracks.

“Go in first. I will be with you in your place in a few minutes. 10 minutes tops.” He gave me a look that told me to do just that. I would question him about that when I saw him.

Twenty minutes later, and still nothing. This was total bull. I decided before I went and gave him hell, I would at least put his number in my new phone. I grabbed the emergency phone from the drawer and noticed there was a text.

‘Someone else followed, I’m trying to lose them now-E.’

That was sent over ten minutes ago. Damn it, why didn’t I think to check it. I put the number in my phone as I debated on what to do. What if he were in trouble and needed help? Was it a trap? I needed to leave the apartment, but the cameras made me nervous. I figure out a way out the window? I was on the 3rd floor, so cameras couldn’t easily see in. The bedroom window was closest to the back alley we were in. It didn’t seem like Ezra was worried about cameras there. That would probably be my best way out. I opened the window and popped out the screen. I pulled that in quickly. There was no fire escape. The brick looked nice and smooth. So it would be impossible to climb out. I went back to the weapons closet and looked for something I could use.

I smiled at the mini crossbow and came up with a plan.

I really hoped this would work. I changed into dark jeans and my favorite leather boots. I grabbed an all-black hoodie that was a tad large on me. I tied up.

The extra towels and sheets were made into a rope. I grabbed some of the forks heating them on the stove so I could bend them and make a make shift grapple hook to get back inside. I cracked open all the windows while the metal heated, because man it smelled horrible. I used the thongs and a large kitchen knife to bend them with out burning myself. I quickly cooled them under the cold water. The smoke made my smoke detector go off. I ran over to it quickly, dismantling it.

KNOCK KNOCK

“Is everything okay in there?” A voice called out. Man, that was fast... the alarm was only going off for less than 30 seconds.

“Yeah! I totally got sucked into the movie I was watching and burnt my food!”

“Oh, okay,” the female voice called out, not sounding convinced.

Anxiety bubbled up in my throat. Something about this place rang off, but Ezra didn’t give me any reason not to trust him other than saying he is a villain. Words are just words. His actions speak louder.

I packed the bag with my new phone and left the emergency in the drawer. I made sure Ezra’s number was in my phone before I left. Hopefully, the grapple will work when I have to come back. The forks were light enough that the mini crossbow would send it to where I needed it. But strong enough to hold my weight when I climbed back in, hopefully.

I shoved this weird, hard, and heavy decoration onto the counter, hoping Ezra wouldn’t be upset if it broke. I shoved that in the corner of the open window I would be escaping from, then propped upa  rolling pin that would hopefully hold long enough for me to get close to the ground. It was the only thing I could find that I could shoot and knock out of the window, that I could hopefully get back the sheet rope, so I could make it into a grappling hook and rope when I returned.

I took one last look around the apartment. Made sure everything else was shut and locked. Oven off. Lights off, left the TV on playing something so it would sound like I was still at home because it was too early for anyone to be in bed. Feeling like everything was set, I set my plan in action.

I made my way down the rope and knocked the rolling pin out the window. Thankfully, it did come down, and the heavy decoration didn’t break and kept the window open just enough for me to try and get back in.

I made my way down the alleyway and made sure I was in the clear. So far it seemed to be. I planned on going down two more blocks before calling Ezra. After a bit and I felt like I was in the clear I called him.

Ring ring ring

“Who is this? How do you have this number?” Ezra's sharp, cold words shocked me. I never heard him talk like that. It took me a minute to respond.

“Uhh… It’s me, Elizabeth…. Where are you?” I tried not sounding confused, but it didn’t work.

“Oh?? I’m trying to lose them. I am about to circle back to the diner.” The tone of his voice instantly changed when he realized it was me, but before I could do anything he hung up.

Strange… something was going on. But he told me he was circling back to the diner. Maybe I can meet him there? If I cut through a few alleyways, I could probably meet him there and find out what was going on. Something didn’t feel right and I knew to trust my gut. I just hoped Ezra was okay.

I was just about to make it through the clearing of the small forest behind the diner when I saw Ezra walk out with a group of guys. At first, I didn’t recognize anyone but Ezra, but then I noticed one of the guys he was with was one of the villains my parents worked really hard to catch and stop. Something didn’t feel right, so I stayed in the shadows. They all got into one car. I ran out to see where they were going as they pulled ou,t but noticed Ezra left his bike with the helmet on the seat. I lifted it and found the bike's keys.

I wondered if this was his plan. Maybe he needed me to save him? That thought sent giddy shivers of excitement down my spine. Finally, I could help.

Quickly, I hopped onto his bike, sliding the helmet on, and headed my way after him.
