Chapter 138
Chapter 138
Skylar
“Asher….” He stepped aside and picked him up, walked over to the bed, and sat down with him.
“Hey buddy, sorry I wasn’t here, but I’m here now, and I’m never leaving again, I promise,” he said, looking at Adriel, who was smiling.
“I’m sorry I wasn’t here for you, bunny. I’m so sorry. He’s perfect. Did Miles take care of you, or do I need to kick his ass?” he asked while still looking at Adriel.
“You,” I said, stopping, and he looked at me.
“I love you, and I know you love me the same way, Skylar. Even though I was away for so long, not one day did my trust or faith in you ever waver. I know he is mine; he is ours, and anyone who says otherwise has no part in our life,” he said, and I cried silently. He stood up and put Adriel back into his crib. He went back to sleep.
He came over and stood looking at me. “Did you think I would doubt you?” he asked, and I nodded yes.
“Never. When I woke up on that island, my first thought was of you,” he said, hugging me.
“What happened, Asher?” I asked. He took my hand, leading me over to the couch, and sat down, pulling me onto his lap.
“I don’t know, love. On the way back, I was tired, so I took a nap. When I woke up, I was lying on the sand on a deserted island. I don’t know how long I was there. It was a long time after; I saw a canoe. Apparently, there was a tribe of people a few miles away on another island. They took me there, and I've stayed there for a while now… it seems like months. There was only one little boy who understood me; the others didn’t. One day, he told me in broken language that a big ship passes by; maybe there was help. I watched that sea for days and nights until one day I saw the ship. It was a cargo ship. They helped me out to the ocean where they could help. It took me six months to get to land. They made port in Trinidad and Tobago two days ago. I called Eli, and he came for me,” he said, hugging me.
Asher
I couldn’t tell her the truth. That was a condensed version of what happened; Not even Eli knew what I had been through. I looked at her.
“Bunny, this may seem like I’m a savage, but I need you.”
“I need you too, only you,” she said, kissing me. I returned her kiss hard and deep. She turned, straddling me, and pulled her shirt off.
“I missed you, Asher, please,” she said with a moan. When she leaned into me, I flinched, and I guess she saw it. She stood up and looked at me.
“Take your shirt off,” she said in her no-nonsense tone, and I knew she meant it. There were rare times when she was serious with me. I let out a sigh; I knew it was inevitable she would have seen it at some point. I stood up and took the shirt off.
“Asher, what happened to you?” she asked in a whisper. “I had an accident,” I said, trying not to tell her the full story.
“We’re going to the doctor. Now,” she said, walking into the closet and coming out fully dressed.
She grabbed my hand and walked out the door. “Hilda?” I saw an older woman walking out of the guest room. Who was she now?
“Mrs. Rhys. Ohh, Mr. Rhys is home,” she said.
“Yes. Adriel is asleep. Freya will be over to take care of him. I’m taking my husband to the doctor,” she said.
“Yes, Mrs. Rhys,” the woman said.
“SAMUEL?” she yelled. I saw Samuel run in. Jesus, she really had them all on their toes. I looked at Eli and shook my head.
“Mrs. Rhys?”
“You’ll stay with Adriel; we’re going to the hospital,” she said.
“He’ll be safe. Leon and Ron are with you,” Samuel said, walking out.
I would let her have her way for now. I got into the car with her, and she was quiet. She let out a frustrated sigh, and I knew she was trying not to lose it at me. “How old is he?” I asked, drawing her mind away.
“He’s one; he turned one a few days ago,” she said quietly, still fuming.
“What did you name him?”
“Adriel Tate Rhys,” she said with a sigh.
“Asher, I’m sorry. I’m just worried about you,” she said, taking my hands in hers. I pulled her close to me. She’s grown so much in the short time. She was embodying who she was, and that was Mrs. Rhys. I kissed her forehead.
“I know you are, love, and I don’t blame you,” I said. When we got to the hospital entrance, as I got out, I stopped. I felt it. She turned and looked at me and grabbed me. “
LEON, get Dr. Benning!” she yelled.
Skylar
When I saw the blood staining his shirt, I started panicking. When Dr. Benning rushed out and saw him, they rushed him inside. I stood for a second.
When I had asked him to take his shirt off, I saw he had a long red scar down the left side of his stomach; it was red and had dried blood. When I walked in, Leon and Eli were waiting. I walked over to Eli.
“Skylar, I’m sorry. I should have taken him to a doctor, but he was insistent that he was fine and he wanted to come back to you,” Eli said.
“It’s okay, Eli. I’m not angry. He’s so damn stubborn,” I said with a sigh. I saw Dr. Benning coming towards me.
“Mrs. Rhys, your husband has internal bleeding and needs to be rushed into surgery now,” he said.
“Go, I’ll handle the necessary documents,” I said, and he nodded. I called Freya and told her he was going into surgery, and Miles also. I was in the waiting room when Miles showed up looking worried.
“Now, you said Asher?” he asked, and I nodded.
“He’s alive. Was stranded, then got help from a ship and made it to the Caribbean, and then called Eli for help,” I said.
“Jesus, does Freya know?”
“Yes. She’s with Adriel; Chris is on his way over.”
“Okay, I’ll call Liam, and he’ll inform the others,” he said. I sat there waiting and praying that he would pull through.
