Chapter 134

Chapter 134
Skylar

On the 30th of May, early morning, Lana, Olivia, Liam, Eli, Mathew, and Mateo showed up, along with Chris, Freya, and Miles. Olivia came to me and hugged me. “Hello, sweetie, how are you holding up?” she asked quietly.

“I’m trying to keep it together.”
“Okay, just remember we’re here for you,” Lana said.

After breakfast, the men left, along with Samuel and Leon. Eli said Detective Bryson would meet them at the airfield with the officers. I didn’t go to work; I asked Mark and Paxton to oversee the offices for the two days, and they assured me they would. When they returned, they just shook their heads no, and I sighed. The next morning, they went out again, and it was the same—nothing. They would be leaving tonight. I stood looking at them.

“You know you don’t have to do this,” I said quietly.
“What are you talking about?” Lana asked.
“I can’t keep pulling you all away from your lives to help me.”
“We’ll keep searching for him as long as you want to,” Eli said.
“Don’t worry about us; just take care of yourself,” Mateo said.

After they left, it was just the four of us: Freya, Chris, and me. I sat on the patio, grabbed a beer, and let out a sigh.
“I don’t know what to do right now,” I said.
“Don’t worry, we’ll find him,” Freya said, squeezing my hands.

After Freya left to use the washroom, I looked at Chris. “When will you be proposing?”
“I’m not,” he said quietly. Miles and I looked at him.
“You better start explaining,” Miles said.
“How can I when Asher is missing? We don’t know what happened to him or why. I can’t propose now because I know she’ll want him there, so I’ll wait,” he said.

“Chris, you don’t need to wait. Look what happened now; it’s better you take life by the reins and live,” I said.
“No.” When we turned around, Freya was standing by the door.
“I’m sorry, Chris, but I want my brother to be here,” she said quietly.

He went over to her and hugged her. “I know, and we’ll wait,” he said.
One year,” I said. “One year. You will wait for one year, and if we haven’t…” I took a deep breath.
“If we don’t find him in one year, you’ll get married. That’s as long as I’ll allow you to wait, Freya, no longer,” I said. She looked like she wanted to say no, stayed quiet for a bit, and let out a sigh. “Okay, one year,” she said.

Freya

It’s been two months since Asher’s jet exploded, and he has been gone. Everyone keeps saying that he’s dead, but Sky refuses to believe it. Even I refused to believe it because I didn’t want to believe that he was gone. She wasn’t going to give up on finding him, and I was grateful for that. I knew Christopher wanted to propose, but I didn’t want to do it with him gone; it felt wrong. I was sitting in the living room when he came in.

“Hi, babe, what are you doing?” he asked as he sat beside me.
“Scholarship papers. Sky is busy with Azure, so Miles, Daphne, Darla, and I are handling it.”
“Today is Friday. Why don’t we go over and have dinner over there? Call Miles, Darla, and Daphne. She’s probably alone. You know, two months ago was her 20th birthday,” he said.

“Chris, why didn’t you say something?”
“Because she wanted to be alone. Come on, I’ll grab a shower. Call the others,” he said, heading up the stairs.

When we got there, she was sitting outside on the patio. I hugged her. “What’s going on?” she asked, looking surprised.
“Dinner and drinking. You need it; we need it,” I said, looking at her pleadingly.
“Okay, fine,” she said. We sat there drinking and trying to laugh, but deep down, I knew she was missing him.

Throughout the night, we talked and really talked about life and how things like this happen, and you never know what to do. It was halfway through the drinking that I realized she wasn’t drinking. I looked at her and then the bottle in front of her, and she smiled. “I’m pregnant,” she said quietly. I walked around the table and hugged her.

“It’s going to be fine.”
“Oh, sweetie, congratulations,” Darla said.
“How far along?” Miles asked her.
“Two months,” she said quietly. We sat talking, and around midnight, everyone drifted off, leaving me, Miles, and Sky alone.

“I didn’t cheat on him,” she said quietly, and I looked at her.
“Sky, I would never think that,” I said.
“Baby girl, we know that. Everyone that knows you knows you’re not that type of person,” Miles said.
“I know, but others, him. If and when I do find him, what would he think?” she asked, and I understood.

“Baby girl, then let them talk. What are they going to do? They can’t do shit, and it won’t hurt you. Besides, we all know you’re crazy about Demon Man, and he knows you’re crazy about him too. If he actually thinks you cheated, then he can’t be the real deal,” Miles said, and I nodded.

“Sky, Asher would and could never think that. If he does, then I’ll cut ties with him. Don’t worry about anything, and don’t stress yourself out, please.”
“I’m moving back in until we find him. Freya, find someone to work for her, to clean and cook,” Miles said, and I nodded.
“Hey, we’ll be right there for you, always.”
“Thank you. Both of you,” she said.

After she went to bed, Miles and I sat there. “Miles, when she starts showing, people are really going to talk. Some may even suggest, and I hate to say this, but especially people that don’t like Sky, they may say she killed Asher for his money and is with someone else.”

“I thought of it too. We’ll have to read the others in on what’s going on and make sure nothing of the sort is said, and if it does, we make sure she doesn’t see it or hear it,” he said. When I walked into the guest room at two, Chris was still awake. I grabbed a shower and got into bed with him.

“What has you frowning?” he asked as he hugged me.
“Sky is two months pregnant, and she’s worried about what people will say. Asher is missing, assumed dead,” I said with a sigh.

“I’ll let Lana and Eli know. I’ll inform the PR department to make sure nothing is said or heard and make sure she doesn’t hear it. She’ll be fine; we’ll all make sure of it. I promise,” he said, hugging me.

“Okay.”
