Chapter 37

As soon as Royanna left the study,
Saphena took a few steps forward, her jaw clenched tight in both confusion and disappointment.

Lir dismissing Royanna was shocking; she had brought her in only because she knew Lir didn't take any offenses lightly. This was an opportunity for her to deal with Royanna and remind her that she had the power not just as the commander of the army, but as the closest being to Lir.

“Alpha Lir,” she called in a soft tone. “Forgive my persistence, but if I may ask, why did you let her go?”

Lir didn’t look up. His gaze was fixed on the surface of the table before him, the veins in his hands pronounced as they gripped the edge of the table.

His golden eyes glowed faintly in the dim room, betraying the calm mask he wore.

“I am busy. Excuse me Saphena. We will speak later on this.” Lir said dismissively.

“But Alpha, she disrespected the ceremony,” Saphena pressed on, taking another step closer. “If you do not act swiftly, the others will think…”

“I said leave,” Lir growled, gnashing his teeth, as though he was holding back a yell.

Her mouth twitched, but she dared not argue. “As you command, Alpha.” She strolled out of Lir's study, clenching her sides. Rage simmered in the depths of her chest, Saphena was in utter disbelief.

But then she calmed herself down as she settled in her small station. Glaring at the chains on the walls of her space, she let the thought flow.

The Alpha King was not in the right state of mind, because another episode was drawing near. It had to be the reason he wanted her out.

The King holds her dear, and sparing Royanna was because he needed focus. Saphena only needed this episode to pass, then Royanna would get the punishment she deserved.

Kithara sat by the window, gazing into the distance, one thought on her mind.

Her escape.

Finally, she had been opportune to see civilization in FrostVale, if only she could get her hands on one of those villagers, someone who would help her get out of this cursed kingdom.

The door opening behind her, pulled her attention towards the door. Susan walked in looking tired, she strode off to her bed while Kithara silently watched.

“I didn't know cheering one person all through the night could be tiring.” She said with a smug smile on her face.

“Is that why you left?” Susan asked, now lying on her bed.

“Training starts tomorrow, I need to sleep,” Kithara replied with a shrug.

“But you didn't sleep a wink all those hours. You could have just stayed behind and joined the cheer. None of us can deny what we saw and heard today.”

“Royanna is so talented,” Susan remarked with a proud smile on her face.

“Her tunes were so captivating that they filled my mind with memories of what my life once looked like. A young free Omega girl who found peace in the woods,” she added, and a scoff left Kithara's throat.

“It was fancy music, because she came from a noble home. Nothing special about it. I heard better tunes back in my village,” Kithara voiced out, rolling her eyes.

Susan’s smile faltered, her brows raised, “I don't know why I expected a better response from you.”

“I said the truth, you are just refusing to accept. Besides, we aren't trapped in a cursed land to show off our talents. We are here to survive, and the sooner everyone gets this the better.”

“Kill joy,” Susan muttered, rolling to face the other side of her bed.

“What did you say?” Kithara asked, but got no response other than a soft snore.

“Tsk.” She snorted and stormed out of the quarter. She didn't want to return to the one she shared with Royanna and her followers; she knew for a fact that they would still be praising her for her charade at the village, and Kithara couldn't stand it.

Every one of them was so easily distracted by Royanna, each stunt she pulled always drew unnecessary attention.

They were supposed to be thinking of how to escape the clutches of that evil cunt Saphena. After that fire stunt she pulled, Kithara knew their lives were in danger, she knew someone like Saphena would stop at nothing until they were all dead.

Why?

That remained a mystery to her.
Stepping out of the hallway and into the cold windy night. She paused on her track, noticing a figure walking towards her.

It was Saphena.

Kithara's mind wandered to Royanna who had claimed the Alpha dismissed her punishment.

Had Royanna lied about being dismissed?

Was Saphena dropping by to give a verdict?

Or were they about to have another encounter with training?

Saphena stopped before Kithara, her face as hard as a rock. Lowering her head, Kithara bowed t
o acknowledge Saphena who waved it off immediately and said.

“Come with me.”
