Chapter 130 Let It Slip
Seraphina bit her lip and stepped in front of Brandon, blocking his view.
She reached out, her hand adorned with a ring, and gently stroked Brandon's arm, trying to calm him down. "Hey, don't waste your anger on someone who doesn't deserve your true feelings, Brandon."
Her voice was soft, with a hint of allure.
"True feelings? She isn't worthy."
Brandon was fuming, his voice low and filled with rage.
Seeing this, Seraphina continued, "Brandon, it's been ages since we last danced together. How about you let me be your dance partner tonight?"
Her eyes were full of anticipation, fixed on Brandon.
"Sure."
Brandon agreed without hesitation. His emotions were in turmoil, and he wanted to use this opportunity to vent.
He wanted to see if dancing with Seraphina all night would make Monica jealous.
Did she really not care about him? Was everything she showed before just a lie?
Thinking about Monica, who used to call him "honey" so sweetly, made Brandon's body heat up.
He tugged at his tie, trying to calm his anger, but his eyes still showed a hint of stubbornness and resentment.
After dancing two rounds, Monica felt exhausted. Sweat covered her forehead, and her breathing became rapid.
She apologized to Ethan, her voice weak and tired.
Then, lifting her dress, she staggered upstairs to change clothes. After all, sweating in such a setting was quite impolite.
Moreover, she hadn't yet worn the sky-blue dress her teacher lent her, which was her favorite color.
As the hostess, changing outfits during the ball also signified her high status and importance in the family.
Besides, Monica was genuinely tired. Pregnancy made her easily fatigued.
She planned to take a short nap while changing clothes.
The ball lasted long, usually from 8 PM to midnight. It was only 9:30 PM, so a brief rest wouldn't be neglecting the guests.
Dragging her weary body, she climbed the stairs step by step.
As a member of the Robinson family, Monica naturally had her own room.
However, today's event was held in the main guest house, quite a distance from the villa where Monica and Brandon lived.
Considering the inconvenience, Monica chose a temporary room upstairs in the main guest house as her resting place.
Laura stood not far away, her eyes fixed on Monica's back as she entered the room, feeling secretly pleased.
Once Monica closed the door, Laura quickly took out her phone, her fingers flying over the screen, sending a message discreetly.
A sly smile appeared on her lips as she walked downstairs, feeling triumphant.
Laura stood in a corner of the ballroom, occasionally glancing at the clock on the wall. The hands moved slowly, and she anxiously awaited the scream that would shock everyone.
Time passed quietly as she waited. About half an hour later, only the sound of music and people's laughter came from upstairs, with no sign of the commotion she anticipated.
The leather-clad man she had bribed, Gage Morris, hadn't responded either.
Laura grew increasingly anxious, pacing back and forth, her eyes revealing a hint of unease.
Just then, she noticed a group of girls standing nearby, chatting and laughing.
Laura thought for a moment, then walked gracefully towards them.
"Isn't this Monica's sister? You Evans sisters are certainly stealing the spotlight tonight."
The short-haired girl, Rilla Rogers, spoke first, raising an eyebrow with a hint of mockery in her tone.
Laura had initially entered Lydia's social circle thanks to Rilla's introduction. At the time, Rilla hadn't expected the Evans sisters to be so "unrefined."
Moreover, she hadn't known that Laura's sister was the country girl married to Brandon. Now, her words were blunt and unkind.
Laura had planned to wait until people's interest in Monica waned before trying to integrate into the group.
But now, she urgently needed help to push her plan forward, so she had no choice but to engage with the girls.
"Rilla, don't tease me. I'm the only girl in the Evans family."
Laura lowered her voice, looking a bit nervous, afraid others might hear about her relationship with Monica.
"What do you mean? Isn't Monica, the new member of the Robinson family, your sister?"
Rilla deliberately raised her voice, feigning surprise.
"She's... she's an illegitimate child."
Laura spoke even softer, ensuring the circle of socialites could hear her. She lowered her head slightly, pretending to be ashamed.
"What? Monica is an illegitimate child? That's big news."
Rilla's eyes widened in disbelief.
"How did the Robinson family accept an illegitimate daughter marrying into their family?"
Laura replied pitifully, "Actually, I was supposed to marry into the Robinson family, but I fell ill at the time."
"Then Monica took my place, packed her bags, and went to the Robinson family to marry Brandon."
"When I recovered and came to the Robinson family, I found out they were already married."
As she spoke, she secretly observed the girls' reactions, a hint of satisfaction flashing in her eyes.
"Oh my God, such an unbelievable thing happened. How did the Robinson family not know what you two sisters looked like?"
Rilla, intrigued by the sudden information, grabbed Laura eagerly.
"They hadn't met us before, and Monica deliberately mimicked my makeup. Since we share the same father, we do look somewhat alike."
Laura said, glancing back at the stairs, growing anxious.
Why hadn't anyone discovered Monica and Gage's "affair" yet? It had been so long.
"So that's how it is. Monica is quite cunning, and you are too soft. She took your place to marry into the Robinson family, and you just let it go?"
Rilla exchanged a knowing look with Lydia.
"Monica has lived with her mother, using manipulative tactics to survive. She lost her dignity long ago."
"I've told her off many times, but she never listens."
"I just saw her pulling and tugging with a man."
Laura covered her mouth, feigning shock, and looked at the girls as if she had accidentally let something slip.
