Chapter 170 Monica Calls
Chapter 170 Monica Calls
"I've checked all the hospitals in Maplewood City, and there's no record of your mom's treatment."
Sophie remembered the time she and Monica searched for Kathie, her brow furrowed in confusion.
"Then there's only one possibility: he never treated my mom."
Monica's eyes were red as she caressed Kathie's tombstone, her voice low and filled with hatred.
"He took advantage of my mom's kindness, stole my grandpa's property, and exploited my loyalty. Someone like that doesn't deserve to live."
Her tone was full of immense hatred, each word squeezed out through gritted teeth.
"Monica, don't do anything crazy."
Sophie quickly said, her eyes filled with worry.
She feared Monica might lose her sanity due to hatred and do something she'd regret.
"Honestly, if there's no evidence that Henry imprisoned or abused your mom, maybe you should ask Brandon for help. Use his power to bring Henry down."
"Maybe just a little manipulation in the stock market, and the Evans Company would crumble, making him lose everything. Wouldn't that be enough to vent your anger?"
Sophie tried to persuade Monica.
In her view, if they couldn't legally punish Henry, using Brandon's influence to hit Henry financially was a valid form of revenge.
"That's not enough."
Monica turned to look at Sophie, her eyes showing a hint of stubbornness. "I don't want to use Brandon's power because if I do, how am I any different from Henry?"
"I want to take revenge with my own hands. I don't just want him to lose everything; I want him behind bars."
Monica's voice was firm and powerful, each word declaring her determination.
She wanted to avenge her grandpa Eugene, who was framed by Henry and spent twenty years in prison.
"Alright, since you've made up your mind, just tell me what you need me to do."
Sophie looked into Monica's determined eyes, knowing she couldn't change her decision, so she decisively offered her support.
She understood that Monica needed not just comfort and companionship but real help and support.
"Thank you, Sophie."
Monica said gratefully, tears glistening in her eyes.
In her darkest, most desperate moments, Sophie's presence was like a light in her dark world, giving her warmth and strength.
"Don't mention it. I just wish I could do more for you."
Sophie gently patted Monica's shoulder, her eyes full of heartache.
She felt she hadn't done enough for Monica, sighed, and hugged her, wishing she could give Monica the best of everything in the world.
Monica was truly pitiful.
"No, you have helped me, Sophie."
"You were there when I needed you the most. You understand me better than anyone."
Monica tightly held Sophie's hand, her voice filled with gratitude.
To her, Sophie was not just a close friend but family, one of the people she trusted most in the world.
"Monica, enough of this sad talk. Kiley called and said she's at the cemetery entrance. Let's not make her come up here."
Sophie tried to change the subject to ease Monica's sadness.
"I'm worried that if she comes up, you two will start crying, and then all three of us will be a mess."
"You can't handle such a big emotional hit right now. If you haven't figured out what to do with your husband, you need to protect the baby. It's your key to staying in the Robinson family."
"I'm not saying you should cling to the status of a wealthy daughter-in-law, but I don't want you to regret it later."
"I know, Sophie. This baby is not just Brandon's; it's mine too. I won't give up on any life easily."
Monica gently touched her belly. The life inside her was less than two months old and not yet showing.
But she could feel this little life growing strong inside her, giving her strength and courage.
"Good."
Sophie nodded slightly, a hint of relief in her eyes.
At the Kennedy Manor.
"Mr. Kennedy."
Mike walked into the office respectfully, holding a tablet, and spoke cautiously, "Ms. Evans has had a lot going on. She's left the Robinson Mansion."
His voice was low and steady, his eyes showing a hint of concern.
Ethan sat at his desk, raising his head slightly at Mike's report, a barely noticeable trace of concern in his eyes.
He slid his fingers across the tablet screen, his frown deepening. "With such a big issue, the Robinson family let Monica leave at this time?"
"It seems the Robinson family didn't help in this matter."
His voice was calm and composed.
"Mr. Kennedy, do you need me to..."
Mike asked tentatively, his eyes showing a hint of inquiry.
He knew Ethan had always been particularly concerned about Monica.
Now that she was in trouble, he guessed the boss might take action.
"No need. Monica will call me."
Ethan said confidently.
He understood Monica's character, knowing she would actively seek solutions when faced with difficulties.
As her mentor and friend, he believed she would reach out to him at the right time.
Ethan took out his phone, placing it quietly on the desk, waiting.
Sure enough, it wasn't long before the phone screen lit up, Monica's name flashing repeatedly.
Ethan waited until the third ring before answering.
Monica's voice came through, tired yet hopeful. "Mr. Kennedy, are you available?"
"Yes, what's up?"
Ethan's voice always had a reassuring steadiness, making it seem like no problem was insurmountable with him around.
"I want to join your lab project in Maplewood City. Is that possible?"
Monica held the phone, her voice tinged with nervousness and anticipation.
"Of course."
Ethan's response was concise and straightforward, not even waiting for Monica to finish.
"I'll come by tomorrow."
Monica was momentarily stunned by Ethan's quick agreement, then hurriedly responded.
"Do you need me to pick you up?"
Ethan asked with concern.
"No, no. I have a friend coming with me. She's also a researcher invited to your lab."
Monica quickly declined, not wanting to trouble Ethan. He had already helped her many times.
Ethan knew Monica was referring to Kiley.
