Chapter 167 Threat

Chapter 167 Threat

Brandon held Monica tightly, like he could protect her from all the pain in the world.

"What? How could you do this without asking me first?"

Monica pushed Brandon away, her eyes blazing with anger. "Didn't you hear what the firefighter said at the scene?"

"My mom's death is suspicious. She didn't die at Serenity Nursing Home; she was dumped there after she died."

"Now that my mom's been cremated, there's no forensic evidence. How am I supposed to take down Henry without evidence?"

Her voice was edged with hysteria. To her, Brandon's decision had cost her the chance to seek justice for her mother.

Brandon frowned, a trace of helplessness in his eyes. "I can make Henry disappear with just a word. Why can't you trust me?"

"You always want to rely on your own strength to take him down?"

His voice held a touch of confusion.

In his view, with the Robinson family's power, punishing Henry would be a piece of cake.

"No. I don't want to rely on you. I can't depend on you for my entire life."

Monica lifted her head stubbornly, her gaze firm and resolute. "I have my own ideas, my own principles. I don't want to be someone who depends on others."

"Why not?"

Brandon raised his voice, a hint of hurt flashing in his eyes.

"You don't want to rely on me, so who do you want to rely on?"

"Or are you saying I'm not your first choice for support?"

"I'm your husband, aren't I?"

His voice carried a trace of anger, his eyes filled with disbelief.

Hearing Brandon's words, Monica laughed bitterly in her anger.

"Brandon, I find myself suddenly unable to understand you."

"When Seraphina appeared, you were distant with me."

"When I was wronged, you didn't trust me immediately."

"Now your deep affection makes me feel like you're just trying to get me to have the baby."

"Your love is hot and cold, and I don't know if I should trust you."

Her voice choked with emotion; she didn't want to play this game anymore.

Kathie's death had shattered all her previous patience.

However, Brandon was right about one thing: justice must be sought for the lost, but the living are also important.

So, she needed to do more important things rather than being stuck here, fighting with other women every day.

"I've already apologized to you. What more do you want?"

Brandon had never spoken so humbly to a woman before.

He thought Monica would be moved, would cry, would embrace him, but instead, he was met with a barrage of questions.

A trace of disappointment flashed in his eyes, and the anger in his heart continued to burn.

Brandon let go, and Monica felt as if she had suddenly broken free, relieved.

She slowly sat on the edge of the bed, looking around the room, her eyes revealing a hint of loneliness.

"I don't know why, but I seem to have lost my attachment to this so-called home."

"I don't want to be a caged bird, nor do I want to rely on someone else's power for revenge."

"I don't even have the strength to hate anyone right now. I need to gather my courage."

"And just like you said, my grandfather still needs me. I can't do nothing."

Her voice was low and firm, each word declaring her determination.

Brandon looked at Monica, full of confusion. "What do you want to do?"

Monica lifted her head, her eyes shining with determination. "I want to keep being a doctor."

Brandon frowned, speaking with concern. "But you're pregnant."

"Being pregnant doesn't mean I can't keep working as a doctor," Monica said stubbornly.

"I'm not giving up my dreams for a child."

"I agreed to you before because I hadn't made up my mind, didn't have enough courage."

"But now it's different. I'm no longer threatened by the Evans family. I want to do what I want to do."

Her voice was filled with passion for her dreams.

To her, pregnancy wasn't a reason to give up on her aspirations.

Hearing Monica's words, Brandon stood up abruptly.

His eyes were filled with hurt. "Are you saying that Henry forcing you to marry me wasn't your choice?"

"Even though we've been together for three or four months, I still don't hold a place in your heart?"

"Now that your mother is dead, you feel freed from the shackles and want to pursue your dreams? Is that what you mean?"

Brandon's deep voice carried a hint of pain, but his words were cold.

"Yes, that's exactly what I mean!"

Monica gritted her teeth and said firmly, "Henry can no longer use my mom to threaten me, and I don't want to be your wife anymore!"

"I have my dreams, my career."

"I'm also a top student from Maplewood City University. Why should I stay at home, being a housewife, competing with other women for a man's love?"

"What other woman? What are you talking about?"

Brandon's eyes were shattered. He didn't understand why Monica had such thoughts.

Was she deliberately slandering him just to argue?

"Brian doesn't like me! Your grandfather didn't firmly choose me, and even your mom hesitated, didn't she?"

"Seraphina moving into the Robinson Mansion, what does that mean? Do I need to spell it out?"

"Brandon, I'm not stupid. I know what they're thinking."

"You want to compensate Seraphina, that's none of my business."

"But I'm not in the list of people to compensate her!"

"I'm also a victim. I can't comfort another hurt woman while I'm deeply saddened."

"I'm not jealous, but I can't do it, so you can't ask this of me."

Monica's voice carried a hint of bitterness. To her, during her time with the Robinson family, she always felt like an outsider, never truly recognized or accepted.

"In any case, in your current state, whether it's going to work or going back to school, I won't allow it."

Brandon pinched the bridge of his nose, trying to calm his anger and stay composed.

Monica didn't back down, speaking firmly. "I've already decided."

Brandon roared, unable to accept Monica leaving him like this. "Your decision doesn't matter!"

Monica looked at Brandon's stubborn expression and laughed in anger. "Since you care so much about this child…"

With that, Monica suddenly rushed to the window. Although there was a lawn below, a pregnant woman jumping down would surely lose the baby.

Seeing Monica's actions, Brandon panicked. "What are you doing? Get down."

His voice was filled with fear and worry, his heart pounding in his throat.
